New Romney

Romney Bay House Hotel has been acquired by a new owner and I was emailed by the new reservations team. After a brief exchange of emails they concluded that: ‘I understand that it is frustrating to find out that the old prices can’t be honoured. After the refurb, Romney Bay House will be a different place, with different offerings and that’s why the old contract between yourself and the previous owners can’t be fulfilled.’

While it is of course up to any new owner to decide if they want to refurbish the hotel and charge higher rates to new customers, it is disappointing that the new owner has decided not to honour existing contracts of the acquired hotel business. I would have thought that reputation and goodwill is important in the hospitality sector, and it feels to me (and this is only my own opinion) like the new owner is prioritising short term profit above all else.

New owner won’t honour existing reservations

A lovely, quaint hotel next to Littlestone Golf Club. Fantastic views of the sea and the course and on a clear day you can see France.  We were treated really well by Clinton and Lisa the hotel owners. Beautiful room and food excellent. The hotel has everything you need for a getaway trip.

We went here with a friend who had been going there for 30 years. She had eulogised about it and we can see why. Overlooking the sea, as the name suggest, this Clough-Ellis designed hotel is one of the most welcoming and comfortable we have ever stayed in. The owners, Clinton and Lisa, are both charming and enthusiastic hosts and do everything possible to make your stay enjoyable.
Clinton’s thoughtful cooking is beautifully presented in a classic style, using local produce. His full English breakfast is second to none and his home made marmalade is to die for! There is no choice for the four course evening meal, although I am sure special needs would catered for. The wine list is varied and reasonably priced.
Our bedroom was beautiful with a lovely big bed and three plump pillows each. The bathroom was luxurious and generously supplied with all the little extras that you hope for.
We had a great time chatting to our fellow guests in the extremely comfortable lounge after dinner and retired to bed with that lovely warm glow derived from feeling replete and cared for, not to mention perhaps one too many!
We can certainly see why our friend regards this wonderful place almost as a second home and Clinton and Lisa as almost part of her family!

Better than you could hope for!

Stayed just one night at this "home from home" hotel which is right one the seashore. The building is historically interesting being designed as a house by Sir Clough Williams-Ellis, of Portmieron fame,  for Hedda Hopper and has been tastefull converted. Everything is very comfy and staff helpful and professional. Dinner is served on Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday and it is well worthwhile ensuring your stay covers at least one of these evenings. The menu has no choices but we quite like being suprised occasionally and it make a change not having to make choices.

Well run, "home from home" hotel with excellent dinning.

We’ve just spent 3 wonderful nights at the Romney Bay Hotel. We went with another couple and the 4 of us are unanimous in this feedback. Fabulous location on the Kent coast. Comfortable and well appointed rooms. However, our main praise  is for the outstanding service and hospitality we received. .Lisa is an exceptional hostess and works tirelessly and seemingly effortlessly to ensure her guests have an exceptional experience. Her husband Clinton works behind the scenes providing the most delicious breakfasts and gastronomic dinners. They have an exceptional staff supporting them which only adds to the unique experience. Highly recommended!

The Seabass & Scallop first course in Dinner one was worth the trip alone - Clintons an excellent Chef & Lisa & Team were Seamless - We've actually been going to the Hotel since 1982 but they've taken it to a different level - Please try The Blue Room which is our favorite - Mike & Sue

Consummate Hotel in a Unique Position

There's a lot to like here: stunning views of the Kent coast; luxurious rooms, attentive staff, beautiful food.

It's relatively high-end. We paid circa £300 for dinner, bed & breakfast, but we loved it.

Two minor issues: our room smelled of drains.  This was noted by the gent who showed us to our room though nothing was subsequently done to address it; also their internet is 1990s slow.

Despite that we'd return here in a heartbeat. It was lovely.

Luxurious rooms, fine dining.

This was our second visit to the hotel - this time we returned with friend’s.

Previously we visited on a wet and blustery day in November, luckily the weather was much better this time.
This is a fantastic hotel where nothing can be faulted - great hosts (Lisa and Clinton) and attentive staff, a lovely spacious room with an amazing sea view. You can’t get a more homely, relaxed hotel and location than this.

We had an overnight stay with a lovely meal and breakfast included - Clinton is an excellent chef - the food for both meals was fantastic and is all locally sourced. 

This will be our go to hotel for those special occasions in years to come.

We are looking forward to the next time.

Another excellent stay

Visited here with my parents for a birthday weekend. Lovely spot, right on the beach. They had Room 8 which had a lovely bathroom with roll top bath and views, double aspect bedroom. We had room 9 - more ordinary bathroom but good sized double aspect sea views.
Dinner on the first night is a set 4 course meal - cooked to perfection, starting with pre-dinner cocktails in the lounge. Every course was delicious (included New Romney lamb - beautifully tender and not an ounce of fat). Dinner and breakfast are  in a candle lit conservatory.
The owners are very professional and friendly - clearly take their service seriously, it’s extremely well organised and reassuring in post 19/7 Covid arrangements (maintaining social distancing and high cleanliness standards).
We have decided to make this an annual trip - the area has special memories for us and there is lots to do. Highly recommend 

Gorgeous hotel, lovely friendly service - makes an occasion feel special 

Romney Bay House hotel is situated just off a short unmade road and you really feel away from everything in this remote location. We had stayed here before (ok, 15 years ago just after our civil partnership) and with the current situation with covid, we were not willing to travel abroad, so have been revisiting some old haunts. The hotel is as welcoming and inviting as it was back then and the same couple still run it all these years later. It's lovely to walk along the pebble beach and a few brave souls were even swimming in the sea. There were good covid measures in place, though none of these hampered the enjoyment of our stay. We ate in the hotel for our second evening and the food was delicious, fresh and cooked with flair. This really is a great place to stay and unwind for a few days and the location is wonderful. Hope to be back before another 15 years pass us by!!
