Orton

The George Hotel is now under the care of a temporary manager.  When we arrived the linen for our bed unfortunately hadn't. We ordered our roast dinner and went off to have a shower. Alas the shower door fell into 2 pieces, but we managed. On return to the bar we asked for the internet code, but access to this was denied. I suggested that it was unreasonable to deny internet access to paying guests - the manager told me that there was another pub in the next village.  The barmaid then came to ask whether we wanted dinner - we pointed out we had already ordered it but apparently we were expected to go and confirm the order. The roast dinner did arrive and was delicious. At the same time, the arrival of the bed linen was confirmed. When we asked what time breakfast was in the morning,  the manager replied "Its not". So in the morning we had to go and get a sausage roll from the village shop for breakfast. So quite a few issues but we would have been less put out had the manager been less hostile.

We arrived soaking wet and were welcomed very warmly by landlord Andy who took our wet clothes for drying and us to our warm and comfortable room, where our bags had already been taken.  He continued to be very available and helpful for all the stay and even donated money towards the cancer charity I was raising money for. 

All the staff were friendly and accommodating and the whole place had a great feeling and ambience. The food was great pub hearty fare and good value.  Breakfast was plentiful and delicious. I would highly recommend!

Really excellent stop off, very highly recommended. Good food, excellent beer and hosts who care about looking after you. Drying facilities really useful. 

Coast to Coast

The publican was very friendly and helpful.  The locals were chatty.  Meals looked nice.  We spoke to people who stayed in a room (was fully booked so no dice for us 😀) and they loved the room and breakfast.  Reasonable beer prices too 😀.  The place had a very nice welcoming feel about it.

The George Hotel provided a comfortable bed, nice hot shower, and good food.  The lovely couple running the hotel and bar/restaurant were very engaging and allowed us an early check-in which we appreciated after a long day of hiking.  It's a  great place to chat with both the locals and Coast 2 Coast walkers.  

Overnight Stay in Orton

Just returned from 2 night stay at the George Hotel. Bronagh and Andy  are excellent hosts. They are friendly and welcoming.nothing is too much trouble for them. Our room was spacious,warm and very clean. Our breakfast was very good. On the first night  I ordered fish pie for dinner and husband ordered the meat pie we both fully enjoyed our meals. The next day we had lunch out as we were exploring the lake district, so we just had a pizza between us in the bar  that evening, we thoroughly  enjoyed it. The bar is a friendly place to enjoy a relaxing drink.

Excellent Hosts.

Overall this is an excellent value for money overnight stay and ideally located near the motorway, especially if you can bag a special offer.
The room was tidy and had everything that it’s expected, with a hot powerful shower. It’s location is ideal if travelling on the M6, being close enough for easy access but far away for a good nights quiet sleep.
The included breakfast was also excellent as well as the accommodating host.

Excellent value

We have a lovely stay at this hotel for two nights while we explored the local area. The room was lovely and spacious and the bed very comfortable. 

We enjoyed eating in the bar both nights the  food was very good and the drinks were very reasonably priced and I loved the local ale !

In the mornings the full English was cooked fresh and very enjoyable 

The couple who own the pub Andy and Brownagh were lovey genuine hosts

Great place to stay

We wanted to spend a couple of nights in the Lake District / YorkshireDales so booked The George Hotel in Orión - what a great choice - a lovely friendly hotel - Andy and Bronagh made us so welcome and couldn’t do enough for us. Lovely food and very reasonably priced and great atmosphere in the bar with very friendly locals. We shall certainly book here again next time we are in the area. Highly recommended!

Highly recommended

Stayed here for 1 night during the coast to coast walk, the hosts were very welcoming and hospitable, helping to dry our walking clothes and boots which got soaked during a wet day of walking. The food was tasty, homely and the pub had a nice warm and welcoming atmosphere in the evening. Would recommend.
