I prepaid this by phone from Australia, an inconvenient method of payment and arrived at the hotel at 1500 hours after a lengthy walk from the railway station to find the hotel closes between 1400 and 1700.

Owner Natalie had not informed me of this.

I bought a beer at Market Tavern next door. A very kind drinker eventually told me to go round the back of the Dolphin Hotel.

Fortunately a man, perhaps a general hand was in a small back annexe and told me where to find the room key.

The next battle was hauling my suitcase and backpack up two floors, with rundown fire doors in the way. I sweated!

The attic room had a satisfactory bed but was very poorly lit.

There was not even a towel rail in the bathroom.

The TV was on the blink. A bargirl came up and tried to fix but after she went back down, the problem recurred.

Turning on hot water meant a loud noise from the heat pump. An archaic system never used in Australia.

The toilet flush was slow to operate.

There was a fly and spider in the room. I like spiders but dislike flies.

Shampoo, a kettle, tea and coffee and a shockingly tiny fan were in the room. No aircon, so what do guests do on warmer days?  Opening the attic window just introduces more warm air.

The room could have just fitted a suitcase portable stand but this was lacking.

The bed lacked a top sheet. Sleeping under a doona can be hot.

Compared with The Railway Hotel at Westerfield UK that was closer to London and near Ipswich UK, the Dolphin Inn at an identical GBP60 tariff represented poor value.

And brekky only starts at 0800. Far too late for my early departure.

Overpriced with more rules than a Russian gulag

The rooms were basic but clean and comfortable. The food for all five of us was superb, and I definitely recommend the Tornedos Rossini. The staff were very pleasant and helpful. Excellent cooked breakfast.

Lovely food

I needed a room after arriving in the early hours off the ferry from Ireland. They were able to leave instructions where to find the room key and it was straightforward enough to locate. The paintwork on the fire doors in the corridors was worn away in parts. This didn’t create a great first impression. The property reeked of fried food. The room was very clean and reasonably presented, Headroom was low in parts. There were a number of issues with the bathroom; the toilet flush was weak and required several flushes and long waits for the cistern to refill. The plug in the washbasin had no chain attached to it, so getting it out of the plug hole was difficult. The shower door did not stay shut. I was surprised these issues had accumulated with no apparent remedial work carried out before.
The door to the room was opened by a member of staff in the morning whilst I was still in there. They seem eager to get everyone out before the already quite early check-out time which is 10:30.

Clean room, bathroom in need of updating

Called in for a late breakfast whilst walking in the Pembroke area. Fabulous welcome and fine quality local produce, well prepared, excellent value.  Restaurant and bar open to non-hotel guests. Top quality.

Great Breakfast

A group of us stayed at the Dolphin hotel and restaurant as part of a diving weekend and were all very impressed with the quality of the rooms and food. The rooms are clean and well laid out, with extremely comfy beds. We booked a table for the Saturday night and the quality of food was impressive, with large portions and lots of variety. The staff are exceptional and extremely helpful. We had early starts due to chasing the tides and had to leave before the advertised breakfast times, but could have a take out breakfast prepared in time for our departure times, brilliant service and flexibility.

Fantastic hotel and restaurant

Doesn’t look like much from the outside but a warm welcome and friendly atmosphere inside.  Rooms were small but clean and had everything you need. Best thing by far is the food, tasty , variety and huge portions. The staff were lovely and helped make an enjoyable weekend.

Celebrating mums 87th birthday

Came here for work as have guys working on a long term project on the docks here the main contractor recommended for food which is AMAZING so thought we would stay one night for me but the guys staying for a month. Staff amazing, rooms cosy and well appointed would not have thought of staying here usually a 4 star plus kind of girl, never judge a book by its cover. Thank you for a lovely stay

Never judge a book by its cover

Family run hotel with a lovely atmosphere. Looks like 3 generations. Room is nicely decorated with a basic bathroom. Food in the restaurant was definitely the best food of our holiday. Sea bass cooked beautifuly and very generous with portions. If not staying here then definitely recommend eating here. 

Comfortable with 5 star food

Family room was clean and tidy but rather cramped. Only one arm chair. TV and WiFi were good. Bedding and towels were excellent. Bathroom fan did not work; no place for towels in bathroom. Stair carpet had not been fitted well. At £90 a night, the room was over-priced, given the cramped nature of the space. Bar and restaurant staff were cheerful and efficient. Evening food was good. Beer selection poor.

Clean but basic and pricey

Lovely clean place. Good size room and comfy bed. Staff were really welcoming and friendly, especially Bethan and Erin.
There's limited parking at the back of the hotel but there's also spaces at the front. We didn't have any problem. The restaurant served amazing food at reasonable prices. Breakfast and dinner did not disappoint. Will go back and stay here again. Thank you to all the staff for making us feel so welcome.
