The Wellington Hotel

We were given a room at the rear of the building. Our view was over the rear area/gardens, not good. One of the gardens contains a wooden wind chime which is very annoying if you are trying to sleep! The room was clean, but, only window is next to the entrance door and is a long window, nearly as big as the door. This is the only ventilation. There is only one cupboard for clothes, no chest of draws, so little space for clothes. The bathroom was clean but with the shower over the bath a non slip mat would make life safer. The door latch did not work but lock did. No hooks in the bathroom so the towel rail alongside the toilet was stuffed! No “in the event of a fire” instructions given. Breakfast was either full English or porridge plus toast.
Access to the accommodation was through the bar area which didn’t enhance the place at all. Would I recommend the Hotel - No. Would I stay there again - NO! Try the Commercial across the road.

An interesting experience

Shocking! Totally unprofessional
Where do I start?
Right from the debacle of our check-in, to the manager knocking on our door at 8pm, the stay was comical and not in a good way! 
On arrival our booking couldn’t be found, apparently our fault; we paid for the night upfront and told we could pay for the other night the next day. Once in the room we were stunned at the dilapidated state of the room! At £125 p/night anyone would expect better! We tried to pull the curtain but the rod was not even on the support and the curtain was hanging down and out of its hooks! After climbing up to fix it (so we could pull the curtain’s at night to sleep), we noticed the tie backs for the curtain were very loose on the wall and knobs falling off! At this point we didn’t want to touch anything incase it broke and we got the blame it! We politely told the staff about the damage in the room for 2 reasons, 1 to be courteous to let them know (and to fix it) and 2 it is not a good look to pay for a broken room! Breakfast was nice and the young lady running around on her own was brilliant! After breakfast we left and had a nice day out. We got back to see our room had not been looked at to fix the items mentioned. Oh well we thought, so we settled in for the night. We had a knock at the door at 8pm… It was a guy called Matt, we now know it was the manager! He explained to us that he had not managed to get into a room to look at or even fix the curtain etc. He then insinuated that it was our fault that he couldn’t get in as we had the only keys… Apparently the previous guests had taken the set of keys with them, this was our fault how? The conversation deteriorated and his customer service was in the drain. He seemed to have an excuse for everything and all but blamed us for the damage discussed. The final straw was when he said that if we didn’t like it, he wouldn’t charge us for the night, and we could check out now… It was 8pm, and we were in our pyjamas! He mentioned that we hadn’t even paid for the room for this night-we offered to pay for both nights upon arrival!! We then offered to pay in the morning -he then said no one would be there to take the payment…hmmm a hotel that has no one on their reception in the morning, very interesting. Matt, the manager, defended everything we said, and at no point, did he apologise for the inconvenience of disturbing us at this time of night, nor the lack of attending to our room, nor did he even suggest any sort of solution, in fact, he said there was absolutely nothing wrong with the room, and there was no damage! It was at this point, I pulled out my phone and showed him the photographs we had taken at the time of check-in to show the damage and prove that it was not us that did it (as he insinuated that it was)-he apparently asked his Housekeeping. Well, I don’t think I’ve ever been so insulted or spoken to as a “guest of Hotel” in a more derogatory, patronising manner. The absolute kicker is he offered us a discount…of £5! It seemed apparent to us that, in fact, the only reason he did inconveniently knock on our door at 8pm, was to ensure that we paid for a second night for his dilapidated room! Being as we were in our pyjamas He then said he could bring the EFTPOS machine up to the room – which he did and at no point did he apologise, empathise, or even take on board, our feedback to improve his room for the next guests – he actually defended himself saying he’s never had any complaints, and then told us how much it costs to run one of his rooms. Pathetic and totally unprofessional. We will never stay here again.

Shocking & Totally Unprofessional! 

Nice old fashioned pub with a fire on! Due to the cooler day. Both drinks were lovely and the tribute was excellent.

Would stop here again, very nicely situated on the square right in the heart of St Just. Seating was clean and tidy with a pool table located at the rear.

Relaxing drink

Kept awake with banging music and punters chatting outside until 2am.
Waited 1 and half hours for breakfast to be served.... Worst place we have stayed in many years... Will never be back.
It was like Acorn antiques if you can remember that scene.... 2 soups. 


Awful place to stay.

Lovely bright and clean room overlooking the square, comfy bed with lovely cotton bedding, loads of tea and coffee, and a nice bathroom. The staff were extremely friendly staff, as were the locals. The breakfast was scrummy. All very good!

A night away

What a load of crap! Staff weren't as nice. Both managers were extremely rude and stuck up. They wouldn't refund me for the mould and damp in one if the rooms. And also it was way too cold!!

Horrid. Filthy room, dirty floor, bed covered In someone else’s hair, changed my own sheets(to be fair because I knew the same cleaner did the other rooms so they would have left everything dirty- but they didn’t offer to do them then and there), the mattress protector was again covered in hair and crumbs.

 Wouldn’t offer me ANYTHING in the way of compensation, no late check out, not even a drink. I considered going to stay somewhere else and moving after an 8 hour drive but couldn’t face it. A full zero out of ten. Oh and er, I’ve just realised the walls are so thin I can hear the person breathing in the next room. Fab.

Absolutely dreadful

We stayed for one night at the Wellington Hotel in August 2022.  The hotel is operated by the same owners as the pub.  Most rooms are in the back of the building in a separate 2-story building.  Rooms were clean, but beds, bedding, carpets and fixtures were worn.  Walls were paper thin and we could hear the conversations of guests in the next room without even trying.  There is no air conditioning so the rooms get overheated in the day and cool off at night.  Because the rooms are so warm, guests tend to congregate in the courtyard, making for a noisy evening.  However, windows are directly accessible from the walkway accessing the other rooms and privacy is minimal to get any kind of air flow.   The included breakfast was good.   Location is good in the heart of Cornwall, but all other factors considered, would definitely look elsewhere for a future stay.  Also, there is no parking at the hotel, and guests must park about 300m away in a public car park.

Small hotel, low quality, paper thin walls

Spent a lovely evening and overnight stay at the Wellington St Just, Cornwall. We were made very welcome on arrival and showed to a beautiful room overlooking the square. Great atmosphere in the bar with the locals enjoying a Friday evening drink. We had a great night’s night followed by a full English breakfast. Excellent value. l would have no hesitation in recommending this place and will be coming back.

Lovely friendly B&B

Me and my girlfriend came west from London, lovely day, watched the sunset, came to the hotel, checked in all good. No complaints so far. But the next day we were rushed out by a hard knock on the door. We happened to have missed the checks out time on the email of confirmation, and it made the hotel attendees feel that it’s right to wait outside our door until we left, and made sure we paid the £30 extra charge. We left half hour after the check out time. Our door have been knocked 3 times. We literally got chased out. I have never had a worse stay. 🤡
