Very nice welcome by Mark a great host told us a lot about this great house. Lovely comfy four poster bed with nice views over the gardens and sea view and the cob. Nice breakfast largest I have had and well prepared. Will stay again and highly recommend!

Great stay

There's an understated elegance about 'The Plas'.

It welcomes you in to a warm embrace, just like this enchanting Regency villa has to the great and good for the past centuries.

Mark and Howard are careful guardians of The Plas's past, ensuring the standards you'd expect of a five-star country manor stay are surpassed, both in service and decor.

Our room, The William Maddocks, enjoyed views over The Cob ... with the promise of Harlech Castle in the distance, although the weather offered us little more than a hazy shade of winter.  The four-poster was more than comfy; the leather chairs to enjoy the view of the garden were welcome after a day's sightseeing and the warm ginger of the eco-toiletries made a very welcome change from your standard hotel fare, however, high the star rating.

Each morning we enjoyed a delicious breakfast watching the rain come down over The Cob and the grey clouds scuttle across the skies. My husband's Eggs Benedict, porridge and full Welsh over the stay did not disappoint. Over the years, he's become a true connoisseur of his favourite Eggs Benedict and pronounced these some of the best he'd tasted, surpassing many he'd tasted in top hotels across the country.

Mark was a most gracious host, remembering our breakfast preferences and treating us like old friends coming for a visit. His knowledge and tips on where to eat and what to do on a rainy day were most welcome.

On our final day, we enjoyed afternoon tea in the drawing room, a haven of leather chesterfields, muted colours and books telling the history of this charming house and its history.

Who couldn't be drawn in by the tale of Shelley seeing off an intruder in the middle of the night ... and viewing the ancient pistol which had been discovered under a rhododenron busy years later! 

This is truly a house with a story. We've written our first chapter here and can't wait to return.

A house with a story to enjoy

Well once again Mark and Howard at the “Plas” outdone themselves with our birthday stay there. Shelly’s Theatre was a superb room, you actually felt that Shelly was there when staying in it. Mark and Howard as usual were the most gracious hosts and the “Plas” just goes up more and more in our estimation every time we stay there, if we could give it 10 stars we would. We look forward to our next stay there in 2024.

Another fantastic stay at the “Plas”

Such a beautiful house in a wonderful location. Great hosts - nothing was too much trouble for them and we were made to feel very welcome. 

We tried several breakfasts during our stay, all were delicious, beautifully presented and the view from the dining room was stunning. 

Our room was spotless and full of character, period charm and a beautiful view over looking part of the garden. 

Lots of places close by to visit so we will definitely be returning to Plas Tan Yr Allt to explore the area further. 

A beautiful period country house in an idillic location

An absolute gem in the most picturesque setting. A warm welcome on arrival
Set the tone for our stay, the attention to detail sets this place aside from any we’ve stayed at before. Our room had the most comfortable four poster bed and was furnished with such good taste. Everything was exceptional including the breakfast. Mark and Howard have really captured  the true meaning of hospitality. 

Perfect Perfect Perfect

I can see why Plas Tan-Yr-Allt has been so successful in achieving the awards and accolades they gained.

My wife & I returned from a 4 days stay in North Wales this week where we spent 3 nights at this wonderful hotel. This was a booked trip made slightly later than originally planned due to the prior dates falling on the weekend of our late Majesty's funeral which we had to postpone due to pet organisation difficulties. However, Mark & Howard very kindly re-organised our dates to a later period to accommodate us.

There is an option to select afternoon tea, which we did on our arrival day. I would strongly recommend you take this opportunity as it is well worth the experience. Not only were the scones & cakes lovely but you get to enjoy this extravagance in a beautiful drawing room which makes for the scene with its decor and furniture.

We were provided with a very spacious, beautifully decorated room (Maddocks) with large 4-poster bed and occasional chairs, table, almost akin to having our own suite. The  en-suite bathroom was also spacious and of nice decor. The bed linen is of a very high standard with top quality quilt and pillows as well as fine bed linen which made for 3 very cosy night's sleep.

Breakfast each morning was a true delight and although we opted for the full welsh (read English) breakfast each morning, there is a wide choice of menu to suit every desire I would imagine. A point worthy of mention is that not only is content exceptionally good quality it was delivered piping hot every time. Coffee was served in a cafetierre and was freshly brewed - can't beat good coffee for the start of a day!

The hotel's recommendations for local restaurants are well informed and should be taken a s a good guide to the local eateries - we tried 2 of them (1 twice) and weren't dissapointed on each occasion.

Overall we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will definitely return as the hotel and proprietors are wonderful. Porthmadog is a great place as a central base for North Wales visits as everywhere can be comfortably reached in a day.

Once again our 3 night stay at the “Plas” was amazing. Mark and Howard were fantastic hosts, The “Maddocks” room was superb with all the facilities you would need, Fridge, coffee maker, tv etc. The bathroom was immaculate, the four poster bed was so comfortable and the views of the Cob at Porthmadog and the Snowdonia mountains sublime. The breakfasts were delicious, I’ve decided I’m going to eat Eggs Benedict everyday!. It’s location is ideal for exploring Snowdonia and it’s beaches and woodlands. We cannot wait to come back in 2023.

Another fantastic stay!

We stayed 3 nights at as Tan Yr Allt and really enjoyed it. It's a lovingly restored historic house with 3 suites to offer for visitors. The attention to detail is second to none, from an audio information button in the room, talking about the history of the house, to provision of a multiplug extension, and a tablet for booking breakfast each day. The decor was all very suited to the period of the house and furnishings were high quality.
The cleanliness was very good and Mark, the co owner, was a helpful and accomodating host. His suggestions about places to visit and places to eat really enhanced our stay.
Breakfast was consistently high quality and the view from the dining room, and the front of the house in general, is amazing.
In summer, sitting on the veranda would be delightful. It's a shame it was a bit too breezy when we were there.
Outside, we appreciated the movement sensor lighting when we arrived back at night. We also loved the tiny laser light projections onto the mature trees all around. It looked like fireflies. Quite magical (and much more environmentally friendly than metres and metres of outdoor fairy lights.) The waterfall crossing the driveway is lovely too. 
We wouldn't hesitate to recommend it.

Lovely accommodation, great location and friendly service

On arrival we were warmly met by Mark and shown to our room, Shelly's Theatre, it is absolutley stunning. There is a wonderful history of Percy Bysse Shelly's stay at the house in the 1800's. A four poster bed,which is extremley comfy,  beautifully furnished and spacious with a window seat overlooking the lovley gardens. The bathroom was equally spacious and luxurious. We had to other breakfast the previous night, you can do it in the morning an hour before you wish to go down if you like. There is a tablet provided to do this and is very straight forward. The welsh cooked breakfast was superb and the view from the dining room is breathtaking. A beautiful hotel warmly looked after by Mark and Matthew  well worth a visit. 

Beautiful Historic Hotel

My friend & I were looking for a place to stay whilst we were climbing Snowdon, I could not have picked a better place. From the moment of arrival, Mark’s hospitality was superb. The property is exceptional and the views are breath taking. The room was big, well equipped, the needing was luxurious, the bathroom was lovely & everything was spotless.

I’m lucky enough to stay in 5-star hotels all around the world and every touch had been applied to this charming little property from the scent in the hallway, the music playing in the drawing room, the robes, the superb breakfast (and lovely packed lunch prepared for our hike!), the luxurious finishes and of course the greeting and hosting.

Highly recommend.
