We stayed one night in a courtyard room which to be fair was clean but needed a little tlc. The bed was spotless and very comfortable. The evening meal in the restaurant was exceptional as was the breakfast. Most of the staff were brilliant, just a couple looked like they would rather not be there...you all know the ones!!  We would definitely stay again!!

Clean, comfortable with excellent food!

The setting of this hotel in the delightful village of Ripley is magnificent. The hotel itself is full of character and well maintained. 

We were very pleased to be upgraded to a room in the main building. The room was spacious as was the bed. The carpet is getting worn and needs replacing.There was a disappointing range of bathroom products - only a hair and body wash all in one.  

The food was good, but the menu was very basic and did not provide the dining experience we had expected.  

Breakfast was OK - just. My eggs royale was drowned in ready made hollandaise sauce which could have been better. 

The village itself is lovely but there does seem to be a slight obsession about parking which is a bit over the top.

Staff were very helpful.

We arrived to meet Sarah at reception. She was so helpful.She gave us a ground floor suite suitable for our age. At the restaurant we met George,  like Sarah perfect for the job. The food and service was excellent. After a good nights sleep we went for breakfast and met another Sarah! The best breakfast ever. Sarah was again so kind and helpful. A beautiful place with a top class team. We'll done everyone at the Boars Head.

We recently held our wedding at Ripley Castle.  Our wedding party all stayed at the Boar’s Head. The service was exemplary.  Nothing was too much trouble for the team there.  The standard of accommodation is brilliant.  The food amazing!  Thank you!  Donna in particular was a superstar.  We cannot rate the Boar’s Head highly enough!

Really comfortable bed, well appointed bathroom with a view of the garden, excellent dinner and breakfast, with friendly and competent staff. We would be happy to return to this restful spot located next to Ripley Castle and its beautiful gardens and deer park

Our second visit to the Boars Head and stayed for four nights, in general its good but the Keepers 2 room we book for easy access as my wife has mobility issues is getting tired and needs a general refurbishment, disappointed the top of the rain head shower was filthy and behind the radiators require cleaning.. I only noticed as I dropped a cufflink however a good clean wouldn't go amiss. They provide a chair which is far too low for anyone with knee or back problems and a rather pointless stool , two chairs higher off the ground would be much better.

The service is good more so the breakfast staff and the food is good quality although I think the restaurant is slightly over priced and my wife had on dish that was disappointing, to be fair she was offered an alternative.

In general it's a lovely place to stay although in some areas a little more attention to detail is required, I appreciate in todays world its difficult in the hospitality world and you can't keep everyone happy.

Getting tired.

Often food in a bar is so so as are the rooms.  This was not the case at the Boar's Head (remembering the giant boar killed in defence of King Edward III that led to the  Ingilby family's rise in fortune).  The welcome was bright and genuine, the simple food was well made of fresh ingredients from the castle's walled vegetable patch and the sticky toffee pudding and brandy snap was worth sharing!  A pleasure to visit after our tour of the castle and I'd be happy to go back. L

Serendipity

Stayed for long weekend at The Boar’s Head for a family wedding event. Had three rooms booked, Yellow, White and Cathedral, all very convenient for the  local church and Ripley Castle. Great location all within walking distance of each other. Thanks to Rebecca/Kate and the team at the Boar’s Head for smoothing over the wrinkles on the hottest weekend of the year and making a memorable day for the wedding couple and all their guests. Food is fantastic, good portions and really good breakfast choices 

Stayed for a Wedding Event

Booked this as a pre anniversary treat prior to heading to Helmsley the next day.

We arrived early so we had a bite to eat at the tea room opposite, then checked in at 2pm. We were given a courtyard room, which was really lovely. Very comfortable bed, ok shower, tea/coffee facilities, enough storage for our stay.

We didn’t eat dinner in the pub as we spent the rest of our afternoon & early evening in Harrogate (the bus stop is literally opposite the Boars Head) and returned to the pub around 8pm. We sat outside for a while having a couple of drinks before turning in.

Breakfast the next morning was absolutely delicious, served in a very nice dining room.

We had a great stay; every one of the staff we encountered was incredibly pleasant and welcoming. The Boars Head is such a great place to stay and we’d love to return and we highly recommend. Excellent price and in such a pretty setting.
