We stayed 3 nights and had breakfast each morning.
The room was perfectly clean and had some character but plenty of space. 
The full English breakfasts were just the right size and cooked to order.
The hotel is walking distance into the center of town and the staff were friendly and helpful.
I would fully recommend this hotel and it's incredible value for money.

Fantastic Value !  and a Great place to stay 

We booked three rooms here to use as a base when meeting up with friends and for the money we paid I don't think we could have chosen better!  A very quirky Georgian building in which every room has its own design. All of the rooms we were allocated appeared to have been  refurbished at some time and were comfortably furnished with decent beds and good bathroom or shower. Refreshment trays were replenished every day and the rooms serviced daily to an acceptable standard. As this is such an old building I think it would be impossible to keep it spotless and think that Steve and Georgina do a cracking job! We had room 7 which was perfect for our stay with views out to the river Wye and Ross. 
The breakfasts were fantastic with a good choice of a cold starter (best fresh strawberries ever!) followed by full English and toast and preserves. We ate dinner here one evening and were pleasantly surprised by the wide choice, quality and very reasonable prices. All five of us enjoyed our meals. The desserts were big enough to feed at least two people!  I would highly recommend the Eton Mess but only if you haven't had a large main course as it was massive.  My friend had ordered it and, although we all had delicious sweets, as soon as we saw hers we all wished we had ordered it. 
I had read some negative reviews prior to our stay and wonder if we were at the same place? We did not expect to check in early and although this was pointed out to us on our early arrival, it was not done in an offhand manner at all. In fact quite the opposite as we were told we could leave the car in the car park and were given directions on how to walk to the nearest pub which was only a couple of minutes down the road. We found the hotel owners to be friendly and Steve always had a chat with us at breakfast time even though he was obviously very busy.
All in all I think this hotel is the best value for money in this price bracket that we have ever stayed in. Taking out what you would expect to pay for such a decent breakfast, I don't think you could book into even one of the "economy" brand hotels for the price we paid. As value for money I would highly recommend Castle Lodge and our thanks go to Steve and Georgina for making our stay such a pleasant one.


Best value for money ever!

Came into Ross on Wye last evening tried this hotel lovely people very helpful and friendly. Only stayed one night but very comfortable the room was very nice with great shower. We had an evening meal and breakfast both delicious and plentiful. 
When in Ross again we will definitely stay here.

Late visit

Traditional  hotel with friendly staff and very reasonable prices. 
Located within easy walking distance of the historic town centre, well kept park and footpaths beside the beautiful River Wye. Would visit again. 

Pleasant  stay 

Brilliant little hotel. Not 5 star but doesn't pretend to be. Friendly staff, comfy rooms, clean everywhere, lovely food at breakfast and dinner. 5 mins walk to river Wye and 15 mins walk to town. Easy drive to Hereford or into Wales. Abergavenny 25 mins, Swansea 90 mins.

Super hotel for short or long stay, business or holiday..

A nice hotel on the outskirts of town just a short walk into Ross-On-Wye. The rooms are clean if a little dated and well appointed. Just two things left a less than sweet taste in our mouths after a relatively nice stay in the hotel: Firstly, my friend and colleague had called ahead to enquire if an early check-in was available to be told “If the room is ready, you can check-in, but if not you can leave your bags, explore the town then check-in later” This seemed ideal. However we were greeted by a rather grumpy gentleman who flew out to the car park to tell us there was “no way” anyone could check-in before 2:00pm and we would have to leave our bags in the cars until it was time to check-in. This is not what we had been promised and the manor in which we were addressed was quite brusque.
Secondly, at 9:00am on a Sunday morning, we were greeted with maintenance works in the next room which consisted of 40 minutes of constant banging and hammering – and no it wasn’t my hangover! Why anyone would start maintenance/DIY at 9:00am on a Sunday is bizarre! We’d hoped to stay for breakfast but went elsewhere. The man who had originally 'welcomed' us was in reception when we left and after saying we had left the room key on the reception desk replied with 'Okay' and that was it. The lady that actually checked us in was lovely and a credit to the hotel. Sometimes it’s the little things that mean a lot!

Nice hotel with a lovely welcome - eventually!

Stayed one night. Warm welcome and good service. The room was warm and comfortable with a great view towards Ross. General cleanliness was good although the lid of the kettle and sugar pot would benefit from a little extra attention.
It was lovely to have a bath too. The breakfast was well cooked and tasty and the young waiter was very polite and helpful.

Comfy and well situated Hotel 

Booked a two night B&B stay.  Whilst the hotel is a bit "tired" (it is Georgian so comes with all those complications) we could not fault the friendly service, the breakfast or the evening dining options. Had four very good meals between the two of us, all freshly cooked to order. It is a handy base to explore Ross and the wider area, and is clearly a popular little hotel.  River walk to Ross is about 15 minutes.

A two night late September stay

Booked two rooms for two nights to attend a friend's wedding nearby in mid September.
Sited on the River Wye outside of the town of Ross on Wye. Rooms are big enough with ensuite facilities.

We didn't eat in the evening but other guests did and said it was good. Small bar area serving one real ale on handpull and othe beers wines cider and spirits available.

Town is a pleasant 15 minute walk away along the river path or road. The 33 bus passes close by if you don't want to drive. Just off the A40 with private parking if you do bring the car.

Great welcome lovely area

This hotel is fabulous including the food. We dined here 2 nights and on both occasions the food was excellent. Breakfast also.
Very comfortable stay with pleasant and friendly staff. 
A good base for exploring the local countryside.
Would stop here again
