Lovely old building with a surprisingly good refurb in the premier room we stayed in . A very comfortable stay for one night whilst enjoying Tenterden. The landlord is a friendly chap who runs a great community pub . Situated at the end of the high street it is close to the KESR station and The Old Dairy.

We stayed for one night at The William Caxton, which was ideal for our visit to the Gusbourne Vineyard. Our room, although compact, was clean, tidy and provided us with everything we needed. The bathroom, again compact,  had a great shower. John, the landlord was so helpful, changing our booking when we had to cancel and allowing us to leave our car for the day, whilst we went to Gusbourne. He recommended a local taxi firm, Aero Cars and advised early booking.

A great place to stay, just perfect for what we wanted, nice room all amenities, great price, great pub and staff, food especially the Thai menu, would like to thank John the governor very helpful in booking, great shower in the bathroom, it was perfect for our 2 night stay whilst visiting our son.

William Caxton 2 night stay

Stayed here on 7th August as visiting Chapel Down winery - which was just 4-5 mins away by taxi. Landlord of the pub / B&B couldn't have been more helpful and very friendly and welcoming. The room we stayed in which was the premier double room, was fantastic. Spotlessly clean, great bathroom with powerful shower and choice of a bath too and the complimentary tea / coffee facilities were great. Bed was extremely comfortable. Highly recommend staying here, great value for money... would book here again without hesitation... thank you!

Excellent B&B

booked an overnight stay about 2 weeks before 2020 lockdown as a base for a Chapel Down vineyard tour. Several re-arrangements later John had no problem accomodating us on our 3rd arranged tour and gave us plenty of info. for our arrival and trip to the vineyard. We were welcomed very early in the day and luckily able to use the premium room immediately to leave our bags, then shortly afterwards catching a taxi to our desitnation.  The room was more than adequate for our overnight stay with a comfy bed, enough facilities and a large bathroom with shower cubicle and a whirlpool bath.  After a walk around Tenterden we returned to enjoy a good choice of beers and wine in the rear sun trap of a garden.  Despite my wifes quite tricky dietary needs, the Thai chef made her the most enjoyable and tasty meal she has eaten out in a while and mine was superb!  Cannot fault them for value, friendliness and being very attentive throughout our time there.

Very Accomodating

We chose this as we wanted to be close to Chapel Down. Great host John who sorted us out a taxi to the winery. Adequate  bedroom very clean. We had the jacuzzi bath parents had a smaller room. Very comfy beds. Ate in the restaurant. They do  Thai on certain nights. Very tasty. Lovely staff. They are not currently doing breakfast due to covid, but there is a cafe about 500 yds down the road. We'll placed for the town and steam train. Good value for money. 

Well placed for everything 

We stayed here for one night following a deluxe tour of ChapelDown.  The owner John was very accommodating with an early check in and organising parking for us. Good value and nice & clean. Will be back. 

Handy for Chapeldown

We had booked the William Caxton on bed and breakfast basis. It was clear both on their own website and a consolidator site that we were purchasing room with breakfast and tea/ coffee facilities. On arrival the first things the host told us was we weren’t getting breakfast and there were no tea/ coffee making facilities in the room “because of covid”. Having already stayed at other accommodation since the lifting of lockdown that offered both these options, we knew that their absence was not “because of covid”. It was not a warm welcome. 

On checking the websites that evening the offers were still on them, as they are at the time of writing. On one site the breakfast is now an optional extra, unlike when we booked our stay. We were offered tea or coffee anytime from the bar, but there was no one around first thing in the morning when it would have been really welcome.

The room itself looked ok, but the bed was the hardest we have ever tried to sleep on. The room also over-looked a very busy road, with a close-by junction controlled by traffic lights. First thing in the morning and around the evening rush we were subject to the constant roar of drivers trying to ‘beat the lights’. The window has a roller blind which is very good at blocking out light but sadly not noise of course. The en-suite bathroom is fine, and the shower is excellent. 

The intermittent Wi-Fi is OK for checking emails but nothing more. Amusingly the Wi-Fi dropped out suddenly after every question during the pub’s quiz-night, which we could hear clearly through the floor. 

We prefer to use local businesses but this is one we won’t be going back to, let alone recommending to anyone else.

Not what we paid for

This is a traditional and homely pub that serves great food. The people who work in the pub do everything they can to make sure you are looked after. Superb atmosphere and really welcoming and well worth a visit.

Great pub and Great Food

John at the Caxton has taken the bold move to have authentic Thai food prepared at his pub to eat in or take away on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturday nights...  and wow, is it good.  Great food, great atmosphere, great value for money... will be going again this week...
