Quirky country pub, went for my birthday, husband meal was a large yorkshire pudding, with 2 big cumberland sausages, roast potatoes, with cabbage and peas,  carrot ,there was also a choice of beef or chicken, also mash or chips, i had a steak and ale pie , small but plenty as it was full of meat, very tender, with loadz of homemade chunky chips, cabbage, peas, and a carrot,  and gorgeous gravy, the yorkshire pudding meal was £16.95 and pie was also £16.95, good value, as thats the average now, no matter were you dine, staff very friendly, and very cosy pub, and DOG friendly, will definately visit again. X

Worth a visit

Everything a proper pub should be. Spotlessly clean , a pint of Timothy Taylor which is top notch quality and excellent food with great staff. 

Absolutely gutted that the trains started running back through Hebden again last night or I would have happily taken root for more beer !!!!

A gem !

Had the best fish n chip meal, just below home cooked level here. Visiting in caravan just up the road. Went back second time, sadly eatable but not quite as good as the first. Give it a go if your in the area.

Surprised at how good the chef was. It was haddock which for someone from Grimsby was an absolute must. Went back again.

£4.50 for a hot chocolate, no cream, no marshmallows. To expensive. We were going to eat there but the menu was a silly price. Coal fire and ambiance was lovely. The visit was Sunday dinner time and the carpark was barely occupied and no meals were being served. Suggests just too expensive

Too Expensive

The £5 pint has unfortunately become a (still thankfully rare) phenomenon in Yorkshire but the Hare and Hounds gives you the unwelcome opportunity to experience full-on central London tourist drink prices in the unlikely location of a remote West Yorkshire village. £5.50 for a standard pint of Timothy Taylor's brewed less than 10 miles away and £6 for a pint of Aspalls cider left me speechless. I had no issue with the quality of the beer, the friendliness of staff or the ambience of the pub. Those prices though are literally beyond the pale. If the pricing isn't driven by blatant profiteering then I can only surmise that the landlord is trapped in an untenable lease situation with the pubco/ brewery to need to apply such ridiculous pricing. In our case, it actually lost the pub custom. Had the drinks come in below the £10 mark we would have had a couple more rounds and possibly eaten. As it was, I was left with a very nasty taste as I finished my pint of Knowle Spring Pale Ale and went in search of a more sensibly priced pub.

Drink Prices Beyond the Pale!

We got charged £24 for 3 pints of coke snd a large Pinot, very expensive!!! The food we ordered off the specials menu 2 for £20 there was 4 of us we did have a couple of extras should have been £47 were charged £66!!!! Waited 45 minutes for the food and it wasn’t great when it came!!! My daughter ordered scampi and some salad instead of chips she got 6 pieces of scampi and some lettuce with parsley running through it very odd and not nice!!! Husband had beef baguette the beef was very tough myself snd my son had burgers which were ok but so salad garnish or anything very plain! It wasn’t as tho it was busy either it was very quiet. Won’t be returning

Very expensive and charged wrongly

Fabulous pub in fabulous location. Peaceful country setting, hosts were so friendly & welcoming & really care about looking after their guests. Especially enjoyed the Timothy Taylor beers, delish pie & just overall good vibes. Proper Yorkshire welcome! Room was comfortable with top shower. Great views from the room too. Our first trip away together, rounding off a great day of walking locally. Thanks to all, highly recommended.

Fabulous inn & location

Terrible. Food rubbish.  Manager (female) I'm thinking must have been having a bad day but really no need to take it out on your customers.   It's really not ok for waiting staff to put their hand on the burger bun. 

Stroppy rude  manager. Nice place to sit outside.


Made the trip all the way up the hill from Hebden Bridge in the car to try a pint of Timothy Taylors on the way to a weekend in Haworth, place had been recommended for beer selection by friends, couldn't believe £5.50 for an acceptable pint of Boltmaker ! Having just paid £1.50 for an excellent half of Landlord in Milnrow I queried this with the barmaid who smugly and shamelessly announced "It's Expensive ! It's well kept !" Pub is about 10 miles from the brewery so it should be in good condition AND fairly priced. At least a pound more than the excellent TT Fleece in Haworth, obviously don't want local drinkers or walkers, just middle class retirees happy to be "fleeced". Go to the Shoulder of Mutton in HB or Pack Horse instead, plenty of more convenient and affordable options.

Overpriced Overrated Isolated Milking the Grey Pound

Horrendous food, served on chipped plates. 

The batter on my fish was not cooked properly and was still a paste type batter on the inside.

Chilli had big clumps of meat stuck together rather than nicely minced as expected in a chilli.

Kids meals over priced, said chicken goujon on the menu however when they arrived it was cheap chicken nuggets from a packet, gross.

The staff was lovely especially the lady who took our order at the bar, really welcomed us and had great customer service, she was the only reason we decided to pay, the service saved them.

Absolutely never waste my time coming here again despite the good service and wonderful views, food was disgraceful, shame on that chef sending out chipped plates and poor quality food.
