Absolutely love this place when we are back there. Food is the best, especially the Sunday lunch. The staff are very helpful, caring and friendly. The manager actually went out of their way to make our family occasion even more enjoyable, which was a lovely added bonus. Highly recommend this place!! Thank you again for making our visits always extra special and can't wait for the next time.

Love this place!!

I have rarely visited a pub so entirely lacking in atmosphere or warmth. Just painting some walls in warmer colours and moving the tables away from the walls would help make it feel less like a hospital canteen. The furniture is perhaps an attempt at fashionable mismatching, which would work if it was all old and interesting, rather than a seemingly random collection of cheap and tacky. At one end of the pub was an empty ice cream stall and at the other end one table was piled up with cheap cushions, suggesting that no one had really thought about how it feels to sit in the dining room as a guest. 
I’m all for casual dress in a pub but I’m sure it would be possible to give an air of relaxed informality without the owners squelching around in plastic flip flops like swimming pool attendants. As a customer it would be nice to feel your hosts had made an effort…instead it felt rather like we had turned up unexpectedly and disturbed their day off. 
Ordered the fish and chips. My chips were so incinerated that most of the actual potato had disappeared into a brown hard shell and the fish was overcooked to the point it was entirely solid and the batter was like dandruff. By strange contrast the peas were hard pellets and I’m still trying to work out if they were underdone or overdone…

Unpleasant atmosphere and badly cooked meal

Went to Cranbourne today and after walk around the village,we decided to go into the sheath and ask if the did ploughman lunches,which is getting rare nowadays as not alot of profit in it I think I was served by a very nice  friendly landlady?we had the ploughman's in the garden Very large serving including APPLE and PICKLE,nicely presented and fresh Will definately recommend this to anybody

What a briiliant place.We received a very warm welcome and the staff could not have been more helpful.Food was delicious and local ales superb too.This is my all time favourite. They get everything just right.Thank you so much.

Wedding anniversary lunch

What a great country pub this is.. wonderful food and drinks and a lovely cosy atmosphere.  So welcoming and friendly....set in beautiful country surroundings.   I can thoroughly 100% recommend  this absolute gem.

An absolute gem...

Had Sunday lunch at the Sheaf today. There were seven of us including two children and we were made most welcome by John and his staff. The food was first class and there was so much, we couldn’t finish it all. It really was one of the best Sunday lunches we’d ever had. We’ll be back. 

Wonderful Sunday Lunch

It’s been about five years since I’ve visited here. Unrecognisable! Well done all involved. Really impressed. Lovely base to start out from or come back to after a walk. Also after a visit to the church.

What an improvement!

Very upset and cross. I booked a room in April for a friend’s wedding. I then contacted them several times via phone and email to confirm the booking. Many times they told me they would call me back / their internet was bad in the heat?!/ the owner was at the shop etc but they never rang me back / said there was an issue. I then got a text the night before the reservation from a private mobile number saying there’d been a mix up and there’s no room for us there are anywhere in town. A TEXT!! Absolutely livid and frustrated.

Left without a room the day before a wedding 

The new landlord has kept the local ambience with good humour, clean and delightfully set tables. Food was produced quickly on a plate ( none of this bowls / baskets nonsense). What a plateful it was too. Lamb shank in mint gravy and lovely freshly cooked veg. Meals on other tables were equally attractive portions too. 
Delighted that The Sheaf has reopened in a postive way - we will be back. Well done.

Traditional English pub with excellent food choice at sensible prices.

Overall the standard of room is very poor, I stayed ove the weekend and could hear everything from the bar downstairs till after 23:30. So it's not ideal if you would like a good sleep. The carpet in the room also had mould. I couldn't stay for breakfast but the staff prepared me a breakfast sandwich to take away with me which was a lovely touch and very thoughtful of the team.
