Located close to Oxford, it is very convenient, in a quiet town. The accommodation has off-street private car parking. The rooms were spacious, with a comfy bed; as well as a TV & free wifi, with a good sized private ensuite. Our rooms were up a tight set of steep stairs (but a heritage building). The restaurant had a limited evening menu (as there wasn't a chef on duty that night; only a cook). Breakfast was a very enjoyable full cooked English.

Enjoyable, value for money B&B

We had a good stay at this inn.  Our room was a bit on the small side, room 3, but the queen sized bed was comfortable.  It appears to be family run, and they were all friendly and accommodating.  The full English breakfast was good and if you chose to eat supper there as well, they offered the usual pub meals, as well as delicious Indian food.  If visiting the Oxford area, I would definitely recommend The Chequers Inn.

Lovely stay

Good points first : clean bedding and towels, plenty of hot water and heating in room, comfortable bed
Improvements... A number:
All areas of bar, restaurant, access corridors, room and bathroom, all need thoroughly cleaning especially interior window frames, skirting boards
Front of house and interaction with guests is functional but not welcoming
Breakfast is woeful, small issues but plenty together make a big impression:There is no menu, verbal offer of tea, toast and a full English breakfast but no selection of cereals, juices, jams, danish/muffins etc. Teabag served in a mug, toast one slice of bread halved on a plate with 1 butter pat. No marmalade, jams, spreads were available. The cooked breakfast was served on a small plate using what appeared to be the cheapest quality ingredients.
When I asked for cereals I was offered only cornflakes, no other choice. I then was given a bowl, spoon and plastic storage container labelled BBQ sauce and containing cornflakes. Being vegetarian I was served 2 eggs, mushrooms and baked beans which I ate but weren't especially hot. 
Several other guests left food untouched on their plates
I didn't appreciate an email via the booking.com process requesting payment in crypto currency
The layout and furnishings have changed slightly since the photos were uploaded. There is a beautiful wood burner which would be inviting and bring atmosphere but we stayed 2 nights and never saw it lit. 
There are rooms on 2 floors, we were unlucky with noisy guests above us on the first night. 
Beautiful location though
It all just looks unloved, soulless and functional.
When we left none of the staff asked if everything had been as expected, thanked us for the custom etc. They did wish us a good day.
All in all, I'm sorry to say that we wouldn't return. Functional is the best I can say. 
I believe that these are relatively new owners and I wish them well. I know it's a hard time for businesses but small changes and investment in the right places would bring big returns I'm sure. 

Considerable room for improvement 

Stayed here for 4 nights while away for work. Lovely quiet pub with good, clean rooms. Landlord was polite and the place served excellent food, especially the curries that were reasonably priced. Would definitely stay again if I’m ever back in the area.

Lovely county pub

We arrived at the above location paid £120.00 for our two very small dogs, the landlord showed us to the corridor to our room which really wasn't worth £320.00 for 3 nights really needed some attention. With pub being dog friendly we went into the restaurant placed a drinks order the landlord kept saying he couldn't touch the dogs because of health and safety (we didn't ask him to touch the dogs) so after meal went to pay and I said I wasn't happy as he made such a fuss over our dogs,he then got very aggressive towards me luckily his wife was there and I spoke with her, the landlord then said that my 11 year very calm dog went for him I couldn't believe he said that as my dog is the sweetest natured dog you could ever meet I was so upset! His wife tried so hard to make excuses for him why did she bother! So basically we left after one night sent booking.com a complaint asking for a refund for the two nights we are missing and the charge for the dogs, heard nothing from anyone! So annoyed is an understatement, my self and husband went to a pub in the village where they didn't have a good word to say about the chequers Inn. 


Very rude landlord

Went out for a lunch before the local panto, which was a lot of fun.  First punters in, sun just over the yardarm.  Cold empty cavern, no atmosphere… Barman was very welcoming, got drinks and looked over the interesting menu, with a tasty looking assortment of homemade fare.  Firewood had been gathered and assembled by the fire, only they didn’t want to light it.  It was only -1 outside (and inside).  We persuaded them it was a good idea and it warmed the room a bit and added some atmosphere.  Ordered lunch with high hopes then the starters arrived, assembled on metal tray like dishes, reminded me a bit of boarding school (or prison).  Mains followed, same metal like compartmentalised plates, 1 popadom each, small portions, just enough to whet the appetite, and not too much more.  Very disappointed.  The bill was £190 for 4, oh yes it was!  All in all very disappointing, won’t be darkening their doors again, shame though, lots of potential, but overpriced and under delivered.

Disappointing

Stayed here so we were close to Harry Potter World. An excellent stay with very welcoming owners. Food is good and I would recommend the curry on an evening. The bedroom was excellent all beit on the top floor with low ceilings but was very comfortable. 

Great stay

We stayed in the family room for 4 nights. Set in a beautiful quiet village. Ideal location for Blenheim Palace, Bourton on the Water and Oxford. Owned by a lovely couple who could not do enough for you. We have not slept so well in a long time. Although the rooms are above the pub/restraurant there was no noise from downstairs that disturbed us. Breakfast was 10/10 each day. It was nice to spend the day out and then have the option to have a drink or eat in the pub. Can recommend the fish and chips and if you like curry the chicken curry, vegetable curry, chicken pakora and samosa are outstanding, all home made. The room was very clean but could do with a little updating i.e the shower curtain was clean but the shower rail needs replacing. The shower (over the bath) was brilliant and powerful but the soap dish was stuck at the top so couldn't put the shower head in the best postition, also the hook to hang towels was not adequate and needs something different. Our only complaint is the banging of the doors especially at the bottom of the stairs leading out to the car park which could do with the door closers being adjusted. Very quiet and pieceful and no noise heard after about 10pm even from the doors. Would we stay here again. A big YES and recommended

Great location, great owners, piece and quiet

Atmospheric and picturesque hotel in a lovely village close to Oxford and Blenheim.  Excellent food in the restaurant.  It’s not a five-star hotel but extremely clean, quiet, comfortable and affordable and great value for money in a very busy and expensive part of the country.

Quiet, good location and great value.

Very good welcome. Very helpful owners. Super breakfast, and good Indian food. The double and family rooms) are very nice, only a small bemool, you hear a lot of people from the rooms above. The village is very quiet and pleasant.
