Previously I have stayed at larger more commercial brand name hotel in Pickering but the experience of self check-in and the impartiality of it along with same old branding and drone like feeling gave way to wanting something a little more personal and informal.  Search engine found me this hotel and what a bonus is was.  I was only staying the night whilst in the area searching out some classic cars nearby.  The hotel was very secluded down a very long driveway and in excellent walking and countryside pursuit territory.  First impressions on arrival were very good, checked in with a warm welcome all under 5 mins.  The reception area was aligned with the bar area and snug.   The hotel appears family owned and run and this was reflected in the friendly manner demonstrated by everyone -even the cat.   The room was perfectly functional and for £76.50  for the night including an excellent full English breakfast you couldn't argue.  Larger branded hotel was asking £88 without breakfast!  The room itself had an ensuite shower/toilet, television and free wi-fi which had excellent connectivity.  Tea and coffee was more than you could expect at the bigger branded hotel with proper mugs and a cute bottle of milk rather than awful plastic container things.  Unfortunately by the time I arrived at 8pm I was too tired to experience the bar or order a meal so didn't try either.  Anyhow, I had a good nights sleep in a very comfortable bed and the room was very clean and orderly with hair dryer and so on.  In the morning I headed down for breakfast which is from 0800hrs onwards.  The owner who was ever attentive without being overwhelming had my breakfast order and on the table inside of 10mins and he made sure that I had everything I needed including some pleasant conversation.   A little noise intrusion from the bar area but no more so than anywhere else and to be fair If I had gone to the bar for a nightcap I would never have known anyway.    Overall, excellent value for money and it clearly is a great area and venue for weddings (including a fire engine in the car park for hire), outdoor activities, passing through types such as me or just somewhere to lose yourself for a few days I would have thought.  Breakfast in the dining room was nice with a log burner going on this autumnal morning and must be really nice on a crisp winter day with frost or snow in the air.  Lots to do and see in the area highly recommended and I will be returning when in the area again.

Country Hotel with a country cottage experience.

Our room was very disappointing,  we had 4 rooms in our party.  The room we had we very small with a slanted roof and 2 skylight windows, one wouldn't fully shut. Due to the slanted roof my husband constantly banged his head getting in and out of bed. The room was very hot but couldn't leave open the window as rain came in, kept awake all night as rain hitting window over the top of the head end of the bed,  tea tray was kept on shelf under TV so not very safe when boiling kettle and removing to make hot drink,  bathroom small no other window in room at all.  Breakfast enjoyable.  Main issue was compared to the other 3 rooms which were very much bigger with normal windows and so rest of group able to have a good night sleep. 
All rooms were charged at the same rate which I did not feel was right. This room should have been charged at a lot lower rate than the other rooms. It was not not worth the same rate as a room with a view not just of the sky, and no room to move in it.  The room we were in was room 18.

Disappointed Review

Dreadful stay.  The place itself is nestled in the beautiful countryside. Please don’t let this mislead you. 

The hotel is definitely aware of the sound issues and have done nothing to rectify them.  I was reading through some of the reviews after my stay and the hotel  knew there was a problem with soundproofing back in 2017.  You could hear every single word from the room next door.  This equaled no sleep for us and our son who was a few room away from us and he had the same issue, unable to sleep due to being able to hear every single word from the other rooms.   
Supposed to be a beautiful Yorkshire Breakfast this was cheap cheap ingredients service was very poor.   mould and paint flaking in the bathroom, bathroom sink had a cracking in it.   Mattress was well past its best. Place is very dated.  Didn’t ask how my stay  was? When I did tell them I had no sleep due to hearing every single word from the room next door to me . She didn’t mention anything, but just walked off. I think £130 for a room and £90 for a single room is way too much for what they are providing.  This is not a hotel. It is a B&B at best but to be honest it’s more like an Airbnb when you are in someone’s home. You almost feel as if you are intruding, I would not stay in this hotel again, and I would recommend others to do the same. The whole point of staying in a hotel is so you get some sleep and get a good breakfast. They failed miserably on both accounts and I paid for that privilege utterly disappointed.

Worst hotel stay ever avoid

My husband and I (and the dog) stayed for three nights in this wonderful hotel. The location is peacefully idilic, boasting views of the countryside with plenty of parking. Our room was extremely comfortable and immaculately clean. The bathroom was lovely and decorated to a high standard. 
We all slept so well and the only noise I heard was a local Owl! 
The food was delicious and all ingredients sourced locally ( we even managed to pick up some of the sausages & black pudding from the butcher ourselves to bring home!) 
The staff couldn’t be more helpful and we really enjoyed their company and knowledge of the local area. 
We can’t wait to return soon.

Wonderful Family Ran Hotel & Amazing Locally sourced food

Had a lovely couple nights stay while visiting the North York Moor Railway. Being located slightly out of town it’s very peaceful with fantastic views of the surrounding countryside. Our room had everything we needed and the food in the restaurant were delicious. We will definitely visit again and recommend staying here to anyone staying in Pickering.

Two lovely nights stay in a quiet family run hotel

I want to start by saying the Hotel is in a lovely setting quite a way from Pickering. However the Hotel feels a little bit mismatched in decor one example being the bedroom situation. On arrival we asked for a quiet room which turned out to be above the Bar area and also had no view whatsoever, Very disappointing.
 Also you can tell the walls between the bedroom opposite did not have a proper brick interior as every single thing the other guests said very noisily at 11.30 at night we heard what which was very inconsiderate & made for a very poor nights sleep. 

Even though the owners cannot determine other guests rudeness I feel people should know about the noise of the opposite rooms. 

Having stayed at Cottage Leas twice previously I decided to hold my 60th birthday party here for 18 family and friends over the weekend of 30-31st July 2022. The venue was an ideal location for our BBQ and live music. The owners and staff could not have worked harder to make this a really memorable occasion.
Everybody stayed overnight and thoroughly enjoyed themselves. The rooms, food and location were excellent and I would highly recommend this hotel.

60th Birthday Party

Stayed 2 nights for a friends party. Lovely family feel to this hotel in a perfect and peaceful location. Nothing too much trouble. Evening meals and breakfast were great and cooked fresh to order. Rooms perfectly clean and comfy. Many thanks for a lovely stay. We would not hesitate in staying again

Long weekend

Just stayed 6 nights at cottage leas. Lovely place very friendly and helpful family. Great food. Very clean. Ideally situated to travel around the moors and the lovely coastline.  When you come back from a day out it’s lovely to sit and have a drink in the garden. And then a lovely dinner.  Would definitely stay there again.

A last minute booking for B&B.

A very quiet location down a single track road, in farming country.

Pleasantly welcomed, everything clean and tidy in the rooms.

A small bar, selling drinks at reasonable prices.

Choices for Breakfast, I went for the English Breakfast. Nicely cooked and well presented.

Cottage Leas ticked all the boxes for us.

Would I visit again, Yes.
