While they offer hamburgers, sandwiches, salads and skillet dinners, they are renown for their breakfasts. The different breakfast skillets, omelettes, etc are good sized and flavorful. They offer daily specials.


Comfort Food

Worst hotel in Alaska. The music starts blaring @ 7am. No fridge, no microwave. Stinky heater in the room. Don't stay here. Should have just slept in my truck.doooooo not stay here. The Chelsea in in Anchorage is nicer.

Hope you don't like sleep

Grilled cheese, $7.50.  OK with made with American sliced cheese and $9.60 eggs, bacon and pancakes. OK food. Ordered the "retired" menu which is a good idea. Fries comes with the sandwich. Clean and busy with well-coached crew are happy, efficient and hard-working. Kitchen help is slow.

Pleasant spot for the cafe'

We stopped for breakfast on our way into Anchorage. My husband had been here a couple of times before and thought it was great. My thoughts? Not so much. I had the Biscuits & Gravy with Hashbrowns and Eggs. The eggs were cooked perfectly. The hashbrowns tasted freezer burned, the biscuits were dense and flat, and the gravy tasted like it came from a can.

Unexpectedly Disappointing

The food was ok it was kind of bland ,but the tea selection was great! I had the French dip which was not bland the biscuits and gravy were bland according to some of my close family. The tea was very good though!

We stopped here on our way from Talkeetna to Anchorage for dinner.  It appears as if they have two areas for dining.  We ate at the one called The Trout House.  They serve breakfast all day. The food was average, as was the service.

Had dinner on our way through the town

We were enroute to Soldotna from our friends house in Big Lake and decided to stop for breakfast at the Windbreak Cafe in Wasilla. This is a very quaint cafe, mom & pop type, the food is really good, service was excellent and the interior decor was just amazing if you like to fish.......lots of pics !!!  Our waitress Ashley was very friendly and professional, she took great care of us and her other customers. Definitely recommend stopping here for breakfast on your way north or south through Wasilla, AK.

Great Breakfast !!!

We stayed two nights in the hotel, had breakfast in the restaurant and dinner in the bar. 
First of all, we agree with the many reviews stating that the rooms were hot and the carpet could be cleaner. Nevertheless, we enjoyed our stay at Windbreak very much.
The first night we arrived quite late and went up to our room, yes it was hot, but there were windows and the nice Alaskan air cooled down the room for us. The shower was good as well as the towels.  If you have a light sleep the hotel might not be good for you, because of traffic noises. The breakfast the next morning was good and served quickly. After a nice day hiking, we returned hungry to the Windbreak Bar-Restaurant. The food (mushroom soup, steak and mashed potatos, salmon with vegetables and double baked potatos, NY cheesecake and chocolate cheescake) was absolutely amazing - reslly best food we had for 1.5 weeks) The bar is sooo cozy, the music and atmosphere is fantastic. Also the waitresses are super friendly and highly motivated. As we had our room upstairs, we could try 7 beers of the menu and not the warm room nor the traffic noises could do any harm. However, the hotel room is cheap for the area and we liked it.

Great food and good stay

This place is terrible. We booked online and had a choice of time for check in we selected 10pm to 11 pm - well luckily when we arrived there was someone was still in kitchen to let us in room. Walking to room carpet looks like the asphalt crew has been working IN the hallways continuing to room. I didn't want to walk barefoot in room. Place is dirty. Bright lights on outside of building shine in windows because window covering are shabby and don't cover. Food in the restaurant is old school. When we asked to be able to cancel the 2nd night they refused. Never heard of such a thing. Will NEVER be back to this place.
