This was a very pleasant surprise and served our conference of about 100 people very well.  It is like stepping back in time, as the buildings are 1930s, but the insides are well-maintained.  I saw a large rabbit having breakfast on the lawns one morning.

There are a variety of internal conference rooms - the main one, plus smaller break-out ones.  The dining room is serve-yourself, but that also suited the nature of our meeting.  The food is of the lamb/roast/potatoes/rice/salad variety, but special needs are catered for.

One warning about the rooms and associated bathrooms.  There are only a small number of en-suites and most of the others mean you will have to walk down the corridor to the central facilities and share.

There is a chapel on site and it is a place of calm and quiet beauty.

Excellent for a low-key conference or seminar

Built in 1938 it is a former Jesuit seminary. It remains owned and still used by the Jesuit order but is used mostly for retreats, conferences, wedding receptions. The buildings and grounds are beautiful. I was familiar with the place as I stayed there about 25 years ago for a religious retreat. The character of the environment is still very much religious. Most of the accommodation is shared facilities though some on-suite rooms are available. Canisius is available for groups or singles, o/night or longer. For my own room, my name was on the door, very close to the shower/toilet which were very clean and appropriately serviced with soap paper towel etc. My room was private, comfortable, adequately furnished, bed was comfy with clean sheets of course and a wash basin with hot/cold water. Tea/coffee making facilities and a micro wave oven were just outside my door. Breakfast is included and that was self help in the large dining room from a buffett style collection of cereals etc. Full catering is available on request.  A prayer room and chapel are in the main building and Mass is said several times per week. If your after somewhere quiet, simple with an ambience your unlikely to find outside of a active monastery, Canisius House is very good value. Down side, tricky to get the driveway entrance off busy Mona Vale Rd heading east first attempt. St Ives shopping precinct is just up the road.
