My son booked a trip from me and went with the bride; they were gas stations, but it was too much. I didn't have a booking fee registered, and the facilities were fatal.

What a precario!

A very rustic youth hostel. A room with a large, clean bed and comfortable bedding. Functional sanitary facilities where you should not look in the corners. You forget about the kitchen side that you don't want to touch too much...popular neighborhood a little noisy. Wifi available.

Roots

The rooms were dirty, wet, we didn't dare touch anything... the commonplace was so unattended, so dirty... it was impossible to stay even if we had good accommodation.

Unhealing

We booked via Booking.com. For two backpackers the price sounded cheap and the location seems good from the map. We aren't picky and we don't mind if a hostel isn't perfectly clean but this hostel was truly dreadful. The floor was dirty, our window didn't have a glass, the bed was full of stains which looked like urine. I decided to sleep on a towel because I didn't want to touch the sheets. We booked a new hostel (this time by the beach) in the first 15mins if our stay. We decided to stay the first night here because it was already dark and the area seemed a bit unsafe for checking out at that time. 

Uncomfortable stay

Recently I booked many days in that hostel, leaving me to be taken by the pictures shown in Booking (they showed something very different there), when we arrived at the place it turned out to be something scary. Scum all over the place, squalls everywhere, rooms in a bad state, beds smelling bad, unhygienic, the room door didn't lock, finally something that didn't apply to anything seen in Booking. I was lucky I didn't pay as soon as I arrived, because I wasn't even an hour in place. The owner, or a local worker, named Andrea, even bothered when I told her I could. So I took the wrong things, left the key in the room next to the door and walked out, that's the word.

Hostel in ruins

I want to make a Public Complaint a Booking can't offer this kind of accommodation, it was a very dangerous area and the place is inhuman, the girl who attended me when I said I wasn't going to stay, I made sure I didn't pay and they believed me on my card demanding that I get my money back.

That I have been relegated to the importance of import.

Rio was our first destination in South America when we have started our trip. Most of a taxi drivers didn't want to take us to the hostel. Apparently because it lays under dodgy district. When we finally arrived we couldn't find the number which was wrong on the door. Btw. Hostel has a pink wall and doors so you will see it. Staff are really nice. Location of hostel not really comfortable as we felt a bit unsafe. 

Interesting place to be

This hotel is hard to find. The address is 298 rua costa bastos. There is a pink wall but no hotel sign. The hosts are really nice but the place isn't great. It's not very clean, it gets really hot inside the rooms. Santa Teresa is an up and coming neighborhood. Part of it is already in full "hipster" mode while other parts (around the hotel) are rather run down but still quite nice. The hotel's street is very steep. Just down the hill is a large street with many shops, restaurants and bus stops connecting to the rest of the city. Uphill you can explore Santa Teresa and reach the tram.

I am a very well travelled person, having stayed in all kinds of accommodations all over the world, and this was easily the worst place I have ever had to endure. We booked a 'private en suite room with cable tv and mini bar'. 
Our taxi pulled up to the address on our booking confirmation - no sign that the building was a hostel of any kind. He pressed the bell for us, after a while a non-English speaking young man answered the door. The taxi driver spoke to him briefly in Portugese and handed him our booking confirmation... he looked at it for some time then gestured for us to follow him up a dark, unlit stairwell. He disappeared in to a room (assuming the part of the building he himself lived in with a screeching woman and barking dog thrown in for good measure). After he returned with what appeared to be a master key, he started opening doors to rooms which were obviously already occupied. (I had e-mailed them 2 days before to advise what time we would be arriving and they replied to acknowledge this). After some confusion, he eventually led us up another dark stairwell to a part of the building that looked like it housed prison cells. He showed us in to a room (see pictures), that was filthy, had empty chocolate wrappers on the bed, dirt everywhere, not to mention mouldy eggs in a randomly placed full size fridge (which did, however, work!). Coupled with the 'en suite bathroom' complete with exposed electrical wiring and only a trickle of freezing cold water from the shower and the sink, it's needless to say we were not best pleased with our choice of accommodation. We were exhausted after our long trip , so decided just to try and get some sleep, then leave first thing in the morning to move to our next accommodation (Quintal De Santa Teresa Hostel, much better and will also review this shortly).
The area is horrible, filthy, litter everywhere and just felt completely unsafe. We tried to get a taxi in the morning but it was nearly impossible with the language barrier, we eventually managed to just flag one in the street.
In short, if you are considering staying at this property, I would strongly advise you to think again. It was no where near cheap enough to even say it was worth putting up with it because of the price.
Avoid at all costs!
