I stayed at this hotel for the Olympics for 2 weeks with a couple of friends who volunteered with me. Young and full of energy! 
The room is just ok. It wasn't small, but also not big. We didn't have much space for the luggages, except a wardrobe anda a table with 2 chairs. For 3 people and luggages on the floor, sometimes circulation was difficult, but we used the room just for spleeping, so it was fine.
The walls are thin, so you can hear sometimes loud voices from the corridor outside. If you have a light sleep, this might be a problem.
The room was stinking mould the first two days. I don't know if we got used to it or if they really did something, but on the third day it wasn't (that) bad anymore. 
Cleaning was good, although it could be better. Staff was helpful. I also liked the small fridge, it saved us some money. 
Breakfast is composed of 2 types of bread, 2 types of cheese, ham, butter, 2 types of jelly, watermelon, melon, papaya, apple, banana, simple vanilla cake (btw good with the guava jelly on the top), 2 types of yogurt, coffee, milk and water. It doesn't change! For 2 weeks it was offered exactly the same menu.
Nevertheless the great thing about this hotel is location! Walking distance to Lapa (know by its busy nightlife), to cultural daylight spots, to metro and VLT (tram) stations. 
I'd stay there again as a second choice, only after trying to find something better...

Poor, but location is great!

I stayed here whilst volunteering at the Olympics. I couldn't say this is a hotel I would have chosen for myself but it's functional if you need to be central. On the positive the staff are friendly and helpful, our room was clean and refreshed every day, the breakfast is plentiful and fresh and the location is an easy 10-minute walk from the main train station. 
However, the rooms are small with minimal storage space, the hot water takes ages to warm up, and don't expect any views - our room looked over air conditioning units in a ventilation shaft. The wifi is free but very patchy and mostly only works in the lobby.

Basic but clean - friendly staff

I stayed in the Hotel Castelo during my recent visit to Rio De Janeiro while is was working at the Olympic Games. 
The staff, without exception, are friendly and very helpful. If you don't speak Portuguese communication may well be difficult. 
The hotel is clean but is far from luxurious. The rooms are very very basic. No frills of any description. 
The small selection of food at breakfast was a bit uninspiring. 
The neighbourhood is not brilliant but there are several very good restaurants a very short walk away.
A rather average experience.

Excellent lemonade in family carts, beautiful staircase made by the Chilean. and very rich lemon beach, as well as the people, very affectionate and friendly. very warm, unbearable. I wanted to devote myself.
