Unfortunately it looks much better online. This lodge is not the same as described by previous guests, I think it changed owners
It is very run down , the carpet (very unsanitary) is old and has stains. In the bathroom there are moldy spots in the grout, the faucet has lost all of its chrome, nothing has been replaced, except maybe the mirror. The furniture are old and worn, they could be painted to at least to make them look better.
Breakfast was very disappointing. There are tasteless egg patties, and some very salty bacon. Toast was ok, but the muffins tasted like sawdust, only one type of cereal, milk and coffee, served in paper cups and plastic cutlery.


Disappointed

Very disappointed in our stay - in the upper building behind main office/ dining room. In a room about the size of a small college dorm room, you couldn't walk between the bed and TV when the cabinet was open without squeezing sideways. Sam for reaching only clothes rack (no closet). Breakfast was the same every day, with no fruit to speak of. No supervision of property at night to manage rowdy behaviors at all hours of the night (there were after hour parties nearby during celtic colours). Only saving grace was friendly staff.

Would've rathered slept in my car and saved!

Terribly disappointed. Bad Mildew smell, ripped carpet by the door and dirty.  Bugs in bathroom, shower was hot one second and cold the next, not enough towels. Balcony wood was rotten and probably not that safe, broken chairs on balcony. Avoid unless desperate!!

Don’t do it!

The Hotel has certainly seen better days but, like many, we came across in this part of Canada, the rooms are clean with decent beds and helpful staff. The views from the upper storey of the MacDonald building are excellent, right across the Bras d'Or. Similarly, the Hotel is just on the edge of town and an easy walk in to restaurants and the Alexander Graham Bell Museum. 
Breakfast was just about adequate but was exhausted after the bus parties who seem to stay everywhere here had been in to eat. It was almost deserted once they had left, usually ~8am.

Fading but still tolerable

Very disappointed, should have read the reviews on Tripadvisor. We stayed on the second floor of the Skye building. Needs a good update, very old furniture, shower is like three streams of water with no pressure, the front window are in a wooden frame dating back to the 70's, window screen was fixed with scotch tape, very musty smell in room, hope it isn't asbestos.
Message to the manager, who by the way was very nice, upgrade the hotel during the winter months, it will reward you in the end.

Located outside the village, a bit rough in the heights, the place is very quiet and the garden is huge. The rooms are spacious, clean and comfortable. The original building in which the reception and breakfast room is located has a lot of charm.

Top price quality report

Although the outside of this place looked very pretty, the inside was a whole different story!!!  VERY old and outdated!!!  The room we stayed in had a weird old musty smell, the furniture was a mishmash of old beat up pieces, the mattress was torn, the carpet was disgusting!  It’s sad because I think with ALOT of TLC this could be a beautiful spot.  But in its current condition I would not go back there!!

Very disappointing

I really enjoyed staying at this inn. Staff/owners were super friendly. I was here before the season started for golf or any vacationing so it was really quiet. The view from the patio was beautiful. Tree frogs at night were amazing to listen to. Everything is walking distance for food and liquor store if need.  For myself it was exactly what I was looking for.  Peace and quiet and a comfortable bed.

Looked ok on the website. Old, dirty threadbare towels. Old bedspreads, old sheets.  Terrible musty smell when we walked in ( had to buy room deorderizers. Filthy carpet.

Beds were OK, too soft for my taste, but passable. Horrible bathtub. Only a small bit of toilet paper on roll, with no extra.

Breakfast was terrible, took one look and left.
Only good thing was location.

We were given a list if nearby restaurant's, but most were closed. 

Thus place could be so much better with some TLC.

Nasty, nasty, nasty!!!

Our check-in experience was the beginning of our terrible stay: we were told the price that had been quoted was a mistake, the desk person gave us a price $20 per night higher, then proceeded to scribble a bunch of numbers on a scrap of paper, took out her calculator!, and gave us a price that was far more for our 4 night stay than we had planned.  Then, our room was not ready.  Arriving late the second day, we found our room not done.  After loud complaints from me we were assured it would be done each day thereafter - and it was not.  Beds made up once in all the time we stayed.  The heat didn't work, the window coverings didn't completely cover the windows, the tv was useless because it was in a cabinet with doors that did not open up enough to see the screen from either bed.  The breakfast staff did their best, though the toasters didn't work and the hot breakfast was never hot.  Because there was no staff at the desk when we left early, I did not get my promised printout of the charges.  Despite emailing once I was home, i of course have received nothing back.  Give this place a miss!!
