Baddeck

Super nice room filled with antiques in a quiet location. Nice sun deck overlooking the baddeck harbour with comfortable chairs to enjoy the sunset. Easy access with a ramp  and no stairs to our room on the second floor. Lots of pillows with a very comfortable king bed.

Unknowingly we made reservations here at a time when it was changing ownership.  When we arrived early, there was work going on and we were told to get lost until check in time.  From there everything got better!  Our accommodations, the Rose Cottage, were very nice and recently renovated.  Breakfast was wonderful, across the street at the Freight Shed.  Everyone at the hotel and the Freight Shed were friendly.  In the end we had a five star stay!

This inn is amazing! Great location to explore by walking the town of Baddeck. Central location to explore all of Cape Breton. The folks at the inn are friendly and the room was just amazing. Incredible views from the room and beautiful, comfortable decor. Quiet room and very comfortable bed. Breakfast vouchers for The Freight Shed provided us a delicious breakfast with harborside dining each morning. Will definitely go back!!!!

Great place to stay to explore Cape Breton

We stayed three nights. Plenty of parking across the street. Main floor was undergoing renovation and the kitchen was not functioning yet. We were provided with breakfast vouchers valid at the nearby Freight Shed restaurant at the main dock (good eats there!)

Great location!

The inn started under new management a couple of days before I arrived on June 26 so I am rating it as average because it is hard to tell what will happen once the new management gets going.  A key point is they are no longer serving breakfast on site.  They may be in a couple of weeks but they weren't when I was there and it probably will not be the baked good which they were known for before.

So I wanted to give people a heads-up that buffet baked goods breakfast no longer being offered and that had limited office hours if that mattered to people.  Some people may not care.

I would currently describe it as a guesthouse or B&B with an offsite breakfast.  For example, on day I checked out office not open until 10 am and closed around 7 pm.  People may be in office before or after that but can't count on it.  No phone in room but they do leave messages on your door.  I had chosen it deliberately because they offered a buffet breakfast with oatmeal and baked goods so I could have a quick breakfast and make my 8 am or 8:45 am pick-ups.  But currently not serving breakfast on site.  Do offer a breakfast voucher of $20 for a very close restaurant called The Shed which I was told has good food.  But restaurant not open until 8 am so obviously could not have breakfast before 8 am pick-up.  Kindly agreed to deliver me breakfast and leave it outside my door which was very nice of them.  There were a couple of items on The Shed breakfast menu which came in at below $20 including tax and I ordered them.  Most of the items are $18-$19 so would be over $20 with tax.  Some people may prefer the hot breakfast at The Shed and think it is an improvement but not what I was expecting.
I understand that in a couple of weeks they will offer meals on premises but all I can say is what happened when I was there June 26-28.

I also did not realize their office hours were so limited.  Clare who managed the office was very nice and left messages for me on my door.  But I was expecting more of a standard hotel where the office was open longer and there was a phone in room.  

Lots of storage in room, both closet and drawers.  Lights on either side of king-size bed.  My room had lovely view of lake and outside balcony.  Not all rooms have lake view.  Refrigerator in room and coffee maker.  Bathroom clean and modern and hot water.   Coffee in room OK but I like really dark coffee so most coffee not dark enough for me.  Clare in office very nice and efficient.  Room was on third floor.  Ramp for one floor, and Clare very kindly carried my carry-on bags up to next floor.

So as long as people know will not be getting the baked goods buffet breakfast and no phone in room and limited office hours, would work for a lot of people, especially if can get lakeside view.  And as I said new management started a couple of days before June 26 so may change again.

New Management -No Longer Serving Buffet with Baked Goods On Site

Water's Edge is a great place to stay, especially for a "down day" on a long trip.  It is quiet and the rooms have a lovely view of the harbor from private balconies.  The furnishings are very high quality, what you would find in a nice home.  The Inn is attached to an art gallery and there is original art throughout.  The hosts make a wonderful breakfast with several types of home-made bread. Inn is within 5 min walking distance of the Alexander Graham Bell National Historic Site. Also, the Freight Shed, a couple of minutes walk away, is an exceptional restaurant. Would have liked to get a bit more local information (such as about whale-watching, hiking) form the hosts. Definitely recommend staying here.

Found this on tripadvisor and glad we did. Reserved direct once we decided to stop in Baddeck. Large and comfortable room with view of marina. Lots of activity as boaters prepared for Hurricane Fiona. Breakfast room was very roomy with a good buffet and Jeff’s homemade bread. Close to Bell Museum.

Great room and great breakfast. Inn with personality.

The house is really ideally located right by the lake. The room was large with a separate seating area, balcony, fridge, coffee machine, AC. The breakfast is made by the owner himself: fresh bread, waffles, homemade jam and egg dishes. You are very quickly in the area and to nice restaurants. An ideal starting point for the Cabot Trail.

Our room was large, clean quiet and comfortable with a balcony from which we had a wonderful, peaceful view of the port, lighthouse and laughing families out for a walk.  The breakfast was tasty with many choices and  indoor or outdoor tables to choose from.  We had a refrigerator, and it was possible to walk to get some groceries or to a pharmacy.  This is a place with great ambiance in a beautiful area, a charming village  with a number of recreational possibilities in the area, and I recommend it highly.  

But the most remarkable, the best thing in a very good place was the kindness, attentiveness and generosity of the hosts, Ann and Jeff.  I cannot imagine anyone going farther than they did when my husband became ill.  They went out of their way, above and beyond any expectation we might have had to help us.  If we have occasion to return to Cape Breton (and we hope to), we know exactly where we will stay.

spent only one night and hope we had planned for a longer stay. Inn keepers are a charming  American couple who go out of their ways with tips and advice on what to do. Inn has a great water view on the harbor. Only drawback is noisy AC>
