wanted to stay here once again. We had such pleasant memories of this place. Spent often an entire week here, cross country skiing.  It has undergone a number of name changes over the past 25 years but the property is only a shadow of what it once was. In any case, our nostalgia fix was disappointing, the place is run down and it deserves new ownership who want to put some money into the place. It has a great location and plenty of potential. The once wonderful a Dining Room is sad! We ate in our room!

Not what it used to be!

The conditions are hard to describe. Service and service personnel can hardly be called that. Everywhere dirt (staircase, breakfast room, hallway, carpet floors in our room rocky). Not reachable/not present. Noise at night from a generator. In the next room a mattress was replaced by an insect infested. We weren't the only ones who left early. Well, a price assessment is risky. We should pay for 3 rooms with breakfast for a standard double 515 Canadian dollars.

Get away from me!

Disappointed from home disappointed! Old hotel, not terrible room, the cleaners forgot about. The idea of the refrigerator, the noise at night of the traffic at 5 meters from the room, the 2 km long trains that seem to pass by the rack of the room while they are on the other side of the lake, the evening meal barely edible, we were hungry and nothing around because isolated hotel, breakfast included but incomplete, I had to ask for butter and toaster because forgotten, and finally, a prohibitive rate of 230 Canadian dollars at night! Like Bond in 1983: never again! We were fooled because tourists are too confident, so be careful!!!

Totally Disappointed

I booked two nights at the great divide, as it is the most conveniently located (relatively) affordable accomodation for the Walcott Quarry hike. The room was nice and clean, however it is located above the loudest generator I have ever heard. I had very little sleep the first night, which is not great preparation for a whole day hike. The second night I slept better due to exhaustion, and wasn't so disturbed by the generator or sound of little scurrying animals in the ceiling. 

If you can secure a room away from the generator this would be a better experience.

The menu in the restaurant is limited and very salty.

This is an old hotel, with great history. Rebuild in the 60's and still the same !!! It was clean and breakfastbuffet was surprisingly good with nice views on the mountains from the restaurant. Building reserves so much better, and with the (high) price would say: renovate !! Ok hotel, but too expensive. (whole area IS expensive)

Historical place...

The first room they gave us had not yet been cleaned from the last guests (empty water bottles in the room, towels used and on the floor, etc). They did provide us with another room and upgraded us to a suite (more on the suite below); however, the overall responsiveness didn’t impress me. When I went to the front desk to let them know that our room had not been cleaned the person at the front desk said he would come up with me to look (as if we would be lying about the room not being cleaned) but stopped to have an unrelated and I urgent chat with another employee while I waited for him to address my issue. After seeing the room he agreed it hadn’t been cleaned (again, as if we would be lying about it) and then said something about miscommunication at check out as if it would have been the previous guests’ fault. 
The suite we were provided was certainly not great. We were only provided with one room was cleanish but the floor was still dirty and there were fingerprints on the refrigerator and the bathroom was obviously only ‘surface cleaned’. The stairs to the loft with the bed were really steep and the bed and nightstand are so close to the edge of the loft that you have to be very careful that your phone etc doesn’t fall off the nightstand and over the ledge to the floor below. 
The WORST part is the noise. First of all - the walls are paper thin! So the guests next door arrived after we were asleep and turned their tv on and we could hear everything. After knocking on their door and requesting they turn it down (they did) we proceeded to try to fall back asleep. Unfortunately we could hear everything that was going on next door and it sounded like they were in our room with us - sneezing, Thai massage slapping, talking, etc. 
Also, the lake is across from the hotel on the other side of the busy highway so ‘lake view’ means highway noise! 
Save yourself some grief and stay elsewhere. 


Terrible! Noisy and dirty. Do not recommend!

A perfect alternative to Lake Louise just about a 15-minute drive from there is this hotel, much cheaper.It's generally a little outdated and that's noticeable in the overall state of the rooms, carpet, bathroom... yet you can't even say it's dirty, in fact it has enough amenities for everything someone who doesn't require much needs.

Something antiquated and small, but enough rooms.

A beautiful old building with extraordinary vistas from the dining area. The Lodge is situated at the top of Kicking Horse Pass and is quite isolated from other places in Field (which is actually 11kms away). The Lodge runs on generators which wasn't an issue. Independent phone services don't work so you need to use the Lodge WiFi to stay "connected".
The rooms are dated in line with the age of the building but they are clean and comfortable. Rooms to the front of the lodge look out over Wupta Lake and the mountains. Breakfast was included and provided a reasonable selection of the usual cereals, toast, youghurt, waffles, fruit, coffee and juice.

Full of Character

We didn’t stay there at the lodge, just ate dinner after a long hike to Sherbrooke lake. They are conveniently right next to each other off hwy 1. 

The chicken sandwich my wife had was out of this world good! I had a great burger as well. The place is was deserted at 5:00pm. Service was quick and very friendly. Price was spot on for the area. 

Great food!

Just stayed here for 3 nights, June 2019. First impression was not great, this place could do with some renovation but look past that and you’ll find it a comfortable and friendly stay. We had a lake view room with a balcony which was spotlessly clean. Coffee and tea is available all day and night for guests to help themselves. Good breakfast selection including homemade muffins,  make your own waffles, fruit, cereal, breads etc. We ate here two nights also. Menu was small but food was an excellent surprise. Not only great tasting but very good value compared to places in Lake Louise.
