Bow Lake

The lodge has been completely renovated and is a delight to stay in. The location is spectacular, offering beautiful views of not only Bow Lake but the mountains surrounding the Lake. The Lodge has been renovated with an homage to it's interesting and historical past . The artwork that graces the walls were painted by either local artists or by individuals who were artist-in-residence when that program existed at the Lodge. The hosts, Bruce and Allison, have had 25 years experience running the Ohara Lake Lodge, one of Canada's premier back country lodges. They were wonderful hosts, and the  rest of the staff were equally gracious and helpful. The food was excellent and the dining experience, which seats all the guests family-style at large tables, meant you got to meet and talk with a variety of interesting people. The wines were excellent also, pairing wondering with the entrees. So if you are planning a visit to the incredibly beautiful Banff/Jasper area you will find no better place to stay.

Wonderful Stay at The Lodge at Bow Lake

Lake. Louise is just not my scene although that’s where we were staying warm. We took a ride down the road or rather app and came across a gorgeous lake that looks like a mini lake Louise and there we found the magical lodge. I felt like I was in a western movie, not to mention that I got to experience a lake and ice peaked mountain  without anyone in sight. I even took a swim I. The frigid waters. 

Laid Back Lodge

Good potty stop near Bow Lake and Crowfoot Glacier.  Abundant outdoor facilities, but indoor facilities open only to lodge guests.  Good gift shop, adequate snack bar.  Places inside the national park seem to have their hands tied by preservationists.

Potty Issues

The best thing about the Num-Ti-Jah lodge is the location. This lodge is situated just off Hwy 93 on the shore of Bow Lake, a stunningly beautiful lake with hiking trails to the headwaters of the Bow River. The lodge itself is "rustic" to be sure, so don't expect a Fairmont property. Our room was merely comfortable, but that's not why we stayed here; we stayed for the beautiful location.

The dining experience was a bit quirky and wildly expensive. I had an elk burger, which was fine. My friend had a chicken and gravy dinner that was also fine, but the presentation was weird. The salad was served on a flat rock! Not kidding - a flat piece of stone. The chicken was served on a regular plate, but on top of a slab of cornbread and cole slaw, which had absorbed the gravy from the chicken. Again, it was fine, but weirdly glopped together. 

I don't want to make this sound like a negative review; I will stay here again. Temper your expectations and you will enjoy yourselves.

Great Location!

room dingy i ordered leek and potato soup which had not been heated. i sent it back and it was ok. i ordered fried chicken which was raw in the middle, a clear health risk. They then bought an overcooked burger which was at least edible. they did not charge for dinner. reception staff were courteous. we had booked for 2 nights but left early. they did not refund the lost night even though they knew what had happened.

terrible food

Num-Ti-Jah Lodge is situated at Bow Lake on the Icefields Parkway at hte top of Bow Pass in the Rockie Mountains. It is an oasis in a magnificent setting and its charm is enhanced by staying true to the "Lodge" feel. Don't expect the rooms to be new although they are spacious, clean and comfortable, but there is the old world feel of luxury all around you. The dining room is a huge room that may be confronting for some. The walls are full of mounted animals although there are signs indicating that all on display died of natural causes and were donated to the lodge.
Breakfast is usually included in the room rate and you can upgrade this to include hot options for an additional $10CAD.
There is ample space around the lodge for walks or short hikes. At the end of Bow Lake is a waterfall that would make for a full afternoon return trip.
The staff were wonderful and extremely helpful.

Step Back in Time

Oh man. I was hesitant to stay here given the reviews but I wanted to shave off 30 min or so of the long drive to Jasper. This hotel really is as dated and poorly kept as everyone said. Everything they said was true: paper thin walls (my next door neighbor turned out to be a snorer), separate hot and cold faucets in the bathroom, horrific WiFi (kept me from posting this while I was staying there), stained carpet, smelly room, subpar toilet plumbing, lack of electrical outlets in the room (only one) and there was so much rust at the bottom of the shower stall that I am skipping shower tonight. Forgoing shower in a hotel I paid CAD 420 seems the epitome of a really poor value. Only positive: helpful and friendly staff. There is really no good value inside Banff, however our prior two nights at Paradise Lodge by Lake Louise albeit a bit more expensive in one of their preferred suites was pure heaven compared to this.

Believe all the bad reviews - it’s even worse than my very low expectations

After doing the homework and understanding some of the pit falls I went ahead and booked a night stay at yhe lodge. My husband and myself dont have a lot of disposable income and planned this as a special treat. I have never been so disappointed in my life at the cost of $500. I new the bathrooms and some of the amenities were dated but my understanding of what we were looking for would be there. Our room was to have a view of the the mountain, we got a view of distant mountains, patking lot, kitchen noise and smells among so many it would take to long to list. They advertised a cocktail time which didnt existed. Dinner was cold and the service nonexistent. Our holiday of staying in a historical lodge with outstanding surroundings was destroyed. I highly recommend everyone think twice about this stay. They have an amazing opportunity and they don't seem to care.

Soooo disappointing 

We booked the accommodation for one night. This was perfectly enough. The dining room and the rooms are very dark. The interior was probably bought together a hundred years ago at a flea market. The bathroom and shower are not even enough for a youth hostel. Moreover, very low-key. In the next room someone was paying tribute to the Canadian woodcutter. It's really a shame that the location of the lodge is in a beautiful place with a wonderful view. The dinner was good. Breakfast. Everything is cheaply overlaid.

Great location, outdated accommodation

Yes. The hotel is old, but that's what's beautiful. Its history. Its flavour. The cracking of the stairs. The lack of an elevator. The location is about the most spectacular I have visited with an hotel onsite. Awsome. Breathtaking. And the views from the rooms towards Bow Lake will leave unforgettable memories. The cons...no phone or wifi connection. Recepcion closes at 10pm and you are locked inside the place. yes, you do get a key vut you are still abandoned in the middle of nowhere. Food wasn't great and service was TERRIBLE. More than an hour waiting to be served. Reception staff quite uptight. Not nice and smiling. ANYWAY I just loved to stay here and will do it again as soon as possible. SPECTACULAR LOCATION
