This was a unplanned trip so I pick this motel because  I wanted to  be in the country and away from  turistic sights! The staff was pleasant and  extremely friendly took  time and told us about the hotel facilities and  accepted our needs! So far so good ! We had a nonsmoking room yet the room had unpleasant oddor we took care of it immediately!

For long term stay  is good because  of facilities!

It has almost been one year from our stay here and I would never stay here again and deal with the manager "Sunny" who overcharged us and never returned our deposit.  Don't stay here if you have a pet or young kids.  It is small and so many noises all the time.   

Don't stay here with a pet or kids and the manager Sunny was horrible to us. 

Amazing area but ruined when checkout and Sunny blamed a damaged door on us which we emailed him about. Then charged over 100 dollars for towels that were “too dirty”, didn’t clean our room for the entire month and no security deposit was returned to us. We were treated nicely by all other staff except Sunny and shocked us with scribbled down charges after one month there. Don’t stay here with kids as it’s tiny and such a horrible experience.

The worst experience because of Sunny their manager.

Beautiful views and comfortable bed.  Private patio or balcony with each room.  An item of ours went missing in the room only to turn up later in our trip, buried in our luggage.  The management was gracious, responsive and helpful.  The front desk is closed quite a bit but there is a posted number to call and someone comes quickly.

They had price listed as $150/night until we arrived to check in, then it went up to $300/nt. when we arrived in person. Its not even that nice a place! They were pressuring us to take it because it was a busy weekend, and we had to decide within 10 minutes (it was only 1 pm). Thankfully we made a quick call and found a room at the Super 8 for $170/nt. 
Walk away from this place and don't look back.

Total rip off. Avoid at all cost!

Wessex in is a cute, vintage place. Not too loud, right on the waterfront, comfy beds, equipped kitchenette.  Definitely not luxury but a nice place to stop for the night. The people we saw in person were friendly. 
A few small things would make it even better. Check in is by 9pm latest; which is hard if your travel has been delayed out of your control. We almost couldn’t get into our booked and paid for room. The room is set up for only 2 people - so towels, dishes I. kitchenette etc. But we were 3 and by the time we realized there were only 2 towels the front desk was closed with no chance to get more. Also there is a note saying dishes must be washed but there is no dish soap and again no way to get any after 9pm.

Vintage place to stay

I stayed here in October 2020, and it included everything. Microwave, fridge, nice kitchen with dishes, great bathroom, internet, TV, balcony. Clean and well maintained. The view was spectacular with mountains, boats, lovely place to walk along the waterfront, which is right across the street. The owners were fantastic to me. I can't say enough good things about them as there is not enough space here. They treated me like family, kind, and compassionate. Of all the places I stayed in my drive across Canada, this was my favorite. I wanted to stay and live there permanently but had to come back to Ontario. Fantastic pricing on long-term rates. Thank you for making my stay so lovely for me. This place was a dream, and everything was perfect. Thank you so much for all your kindness.

Great place to stay and world class owners.

Wessex is a bit older and a bit dated, but a very affordable place to stay in a great location.  We had a tiny balcony facing the bay and enough of a kitchen to cook if we wanted to.  Being only a five minute walk from the village of Cowichan Bay we did take out from one of the local restaurants for dinner and then ate breakfast in our room enjoying the view.  While basic we found this place very clean and would not hesitate to come back as it is great value.

Nice Place for the Price

the room was clean and basic and quiet.  I forgot my phone charger and the staff game me a complimentary one to use for my 2 night stay.  Very helpful because I only had 38% charge left.
There are lots of nice places to eat and drink within walking distance and there is even a bus stop across the road

My family needed a quiet, easygoing vacation, a place to avoid crowds & the virus. The Wessex is perfect - lots of beautiful hiking trails and scenic spots within 20 minutes, and just a short walk to good restaurants in Cow Bay. The rooms are not big or fancy, just comfy beds, everything clean, kitchenette well-equipped. If you want to get away from noise and tension, this is the place.
