Gananoque

The Gateway Motel in Gananoque is one of a few budget motels.  You could stay elsewhere but the cost would be considerably more.  We stayed there in August 2022.  Our room was comfortable, with a clean bathroom.  The air conditioning worked well.  The location is quiet, being on the road to Kingston.  The marina at Gananoque is 20 minutes walk down the road.
The motel is shabby but being renovated by the owner.  He was friendly, approachable and  exceptionally helpful, providing, for example, a coffee machine for our room.
The breakfast was included, being a carbohydrate buffet of bread (and toast), croissants, muffins, bananas, yoghurt with decent coffee.
The swimming pool is usable and is great for hot days.
If you need a pristine room, book a corporate hotel and pay far more, but if you can live with a more down-at-heel place at a low cost, stay here.

Budget motel with helpful owner

Not recommended old tres a lot of reno to do would need a lot of love carpet we need to be changed we see the day out when the door is closed we hear the neighbors motel talking

A journey of love

Fairly clean. Typical old style motel complete with pool full of green water, windowshaker a/c and an advertised price of 80.00 but actual room cost 95.00 plus tax. If the price was as advertised it would be tolerable, but not when they lie

Right out of the 70s

Had a great time the owner was very nice great quiches for breakfast great price we had a great time beds were comfortable and the pillows were great we will for sure stop again very friendly owner had lots of amenities everything we needed and we were seven everyone was pleased

We're used to sleeping in nice/good/cheap motels!!! Towards Toronto and Niagara we had 12 hours of road to do and we wanted to cut off our trip before we got to Toronto my only criterion was when I booked on expedited I clicked on Piscine!!! There is a swimming pool but this one is delivered from a nice loft!!! In short my kids couldn't swim!!! Very disappointed for my kids! As for the motel, I didn't have a lot of expectations so the smell of humidity and closure, the door that leaves and the cleanliness that shouldn't be expected at a Hilton when I was there!!

No swimming pool!

Old, shabby and overpriced . Bedding clean  but we couldn't bear the thought of using the old damaged shower . Breakfast was adequate .We felt we were being overcharged because they knew there were no rooms available in Gananoque

Stayed because all hotels in Gananoque were full ..... Saturday night !

Dirty, smelly, old and rundown. Curtains hanging off the rod. Moldy bathroom.  advertised a pool. Very apparent the pool had not been used for quite some time. I suggest spend a little more and go to a better venue

Avoid if possible

We booked through Booking.com and found that what was advertised was NOT what was available.  Mold in the bathroom, wet carpet outside bathroom, cracked and taped sink, broken window, electrical outlets not to code or missing, pool not operational and appears not to have been for years (however pics show a beautiful pool on sites), can see light coming from outside while in the shower (through the walls), etc etc.  So many things wrong with this venue I need to warn potential guests.

Do not book

As there was no hotel available in Ganonoque, Gateway was the only choice.
From the outside it looked like a run down building but rooms were fine from the inside.
Service was good, there was no issue with hot water or the water pressure. It was perfect.
Breakfast was okay with some cereals, bread, butter, jam and coffee.
Overall the place was satisfactory.

Just an Okay place

Simple clean and spacious rooms, incredibly friendly staff, great water pressure, and on the quiet, greener end of town.

Having stayed at some truly terrible places over the years, I was wary when I read some of the reviews for this motel. Luckily, I also read Marc K's review "For motelers, not hotelers" and this convinced my husband and I to stay here for the evening. Marc K's review is spot on as it turned out to be a good experience and I would definitely stay here again.
