We stayed at the Algonquin Lakeside Inn on October 13, 2019. We were incredibly excited to spend the end of a long day cuddled up in a jacuzzi suite. Unfortunately, the service and standard of this establishment fell way below what we had expected, and a planned romantic evening turned into a bit of a nightmare.
Upon entering the room, the first thing we noticed is that the fireplace did not work. In October, in Canada, that is an issue. A space heater had been put in the room, however, that also did not work. Spirits undampened, we began to fill the jacuzzi and assumed we'd just forget the other issues. We may have been hasty in our assumption. 
There was no hot water. Just frigid, slightly yellowing water. At this point, we were both tired and extremely disappointed - so we called reception and let them know all of the issues. 
They sent up a new space heater with a tech who examined the jacuzzi rather desultorily, and then walked out of the room with nary a word. Ten minutes later he came back to tell us every other room had hot water but us, though every jacuzzi room was booked and they couldn't move us. Pressed a little harder, he toddled off again to go and look at the water heater. When he returned, he announced that someone had turned the water heater off, but he had heroically turned it back on again and we would have hot water in ten minutes or so. The balance of our evening was spent testing the water to see if it had reached an agreeable temperature until we eventually abandoned the idea and fell asleep, cold and a little damp.
The next morning we were greeted with the joy of further unavailability of hot water, necessitating cold showers. The Shampoo dispenser in the bathroom was also empty - which about sums up the care and attention the owners put into these units.
Thoroughly dissatisfied, we went to check out and spoke to the owner of the hotel. We were both fairly upset with the way our evening had turned out, but assumed the owner would be horrified to hear about the failure of the hotels services and reimburse us for some of the $300+ room fee. Assumed being the operative word.
The owner did not care. Despite explaining everything that had happened in the last 15 hours, he refused to do anything for us. He lied, obfuscated and plain refused to show that he cared about our experience in any way. I hope this review saves any other travellers from falling foul of the terrible state of disrepair of this rebranded motel. If at all possible, stay somewhere else!
