First of all their is no handicap access ramp from outside to the lobby. Second, their is no elevator to reach the second level. Their website does not mention these two facts.
Our room was no. 214 which is at the back on a level higher that the actual second floor with more steps to conquer.
Without any advance notice, we were not told that the rooms would not be cleaned on a daily basis and that the towels would not be changed. Nothing was mentioned when we registered nor any posted notice in our room.  I found out when I visited the front desk. Reason given "we don't do that anymore, don't have the staff".
Although the hotel was clean, it is in need of a fresh coat of paint and sprucing up.

Warning

In need of refresh. room needs to be painted, lamps are rusted. ceiling fixtures are old and bulbs missing, patio door not easy to open, bed cover old style. Indoor pool needs to be painted, very hot pool room, needs ventilation

Renovations to be done

The Spa Excelsior is an affordable, nice, relaxing hotel less than an hour outside of Montreal. 
The package is very reasonable including one night’s stay, a massage,  a 5-course dinner and a full breakfast. The food at restaurant Amadeus is excellent. 
They are working on improving things that are needed around the hotel. 
One suggestion is to put a barrier wall near the pool to reduce the noise of the main street that runs along the hotel which makes the relaxing part a little more difficult.

Affordable, relaxing spa less than an hour outside of Montreal

This get away with Friends(ladies) is just the best!! Super great staff, especially the front deck, Ann Michelle and Richard are the dynamic duo. The package with the massage, breakfast, and Dinner including Room is the way to go. We stayed 2 night, wished it was longer.....next time! Relaxing, fun and stress free!! Go make some wonderful memories , it wont be your last time!! Lynn Bech

Time and time again of wonderful memories!!

Disappointed in this place, picked it as a last night prior to flying out of Montreal. An hours drive from the airport. The web hype is nothing like the place we stayed in....

Tv box and wires hanging in mid air
Door to room deadlock not working
No housekeeping visit
Cold water in room for first day until I told reception  
Some kind of reno in the wardrobe obviously not finished off
All in all, not a good visit. Would not recommend this hotel at all
Maybe I should have kept going back and forth toreception with these issues, but I would have spent more time there than sleeping!

Not recommended

It's very good in general, room with big, clean, turbulent bathroom and king bed. The restaurant is a nice waitress but the service was a little slow. The bathroom is very clean but the floor in the room is slightly old but very good quality price ratio.

Staff was friendly, Nice, quiet and clean. Some bedrooms might need some refreshing as you could see a few minor cracks in the paint. Everything was functional such as electric fireplace,  bathrooms are recently renovated. Minor thing but I would increase the flow of the liquid soap dispenser in the shower. I'm washing body parts not hands so I would expect a greater dollop to flow with one push. Pool was nice and warm with a tropical touch and so was the interior whirlpool. Exterior hot tub was hot the first night but warm the second but it could be because the cover was off during -15C (5F) evenings. I would designate a couple of parking spaces near the hotel entrance as a drop off zone for people and luggage. Restaurant/bar was cosy and had a very good breakfast. Try to have it included with your room fee to be less expensive. They loan comfortable bathrobes to go to the pool.

Great place to stay

As we walked through the door, we were greeted by a beautiful lady who had a real passion for helping her guests. She guides us to our romantic suite which was a true delight. Way way nicer than we imagined after reading the comments. All in all, if you like a little RAUNCHINESS, this is the place for you and your love one(es). The interior pool is an oasis of pleasure, It's the next best thing to being in a tropical paradise. The only thing that bothered us, is witnessing Michel, a hard working staff member, having to carry 40 bags of laundry up 3 stories by hand as everyone is looking forward to the elevator witch is expected to be coming soon, but his devotion to the exterior hot baths was second to none. They were clean and at a perfect temperature. Drinks at the pool were great, and the diversity of flora really got my spouse exited (she loves plants). Mirrors in the rooms are strategically positioned and Antoine, will gladly light a chimney for extra oomph (They take a while to ignite, just be patient) they will burn for three hours.  Overall, we give this hotel a solid 10. Don't miss out, it's truly a peaceful and romantic experience.

BEST VALENTINE WET WEEKEND EVER!

I wanted to highlight my husband's birthday. The warm staff. Renovated room, big, furniture lacks a little varnish and matched chairs but the comfortable bed and the double whirlpool bath was working very well. The hotel was undergoing renovations. The cleanliness of the corridors (carpet) surprised us as well as the freshened walls. Wonderful indoor spa and swimming pool and dining 4 services very well too. Except for the drinks, the wife of a friend did not drink her drink which was not a house but rather love. We did a little everything but at this hotel but we had a good quality-x ratio. This hotel is very well situated for the mixed air activities.

We're not good, but we've got a good value for money.

Everything everyone says about this place are pretty much the truth. It is in urgent need of renovations and upgrades to make the rooms more "hotel". The curtains and bed spreads and pillows are all tired and sad...but then you go into the bathroom and it's been completely renovated and it was beautiful. The pool and hot tubs are great and the spa downstairs was amazing. BEST MASSAGE EVER (ask for Melanie Seguin). Restaurant in the hotel was great. Amazing service and good food. Honestly...on the coldest weekend of the year, we didn't even need to leave the hotel to get everything we needed! They even came to our room to light a fire :-) Bottom line...we loved it, but it needs upgrades.
