A very good hostel in terms of location for young people, it's pretty much right in the Kensington market wherever what's going on with many bars, restaurants and small shops, the premises are limited to the minimum with a simple bed (uncomfortable mattress) and a spint, the public spaces like the kitchen and living rooms are very nicely furnished and invite you to get together what's good there is the bathroom and the sanitary facilities however more than bad these should really be generalised but yes for one or the other young baker is also the problem and he'll be able to enjoy his stay here in any case at a beer in the bar opposite PS:

Hipster neighborhood

The staff was awesome -- unbelievably helpful in every situation. I am shocked at some of the reviews that criticize them. Unless there have been recent changes, I couldn't disagree more. They were quick to answer questions, knowledgeable, and always kind. 

It's a VERY old building, and it shows. If you're looking for glamor, this isn't the place for you. We saw the cleaning staff in action often, but things are quite worn down. 

But if you're looking for a cheap bed in the best location imaginable (every major tourist-y location is walkable from it), then this is the place for you.

Amazing staff.

LET ME START by saying that everyone who works there is amazing. Really helpful, fun to talk to and just generally excellent. The bar has the cheapest drinks you'll find downtown by a long way with drink deals on every day of the week. Free internet access and breakfast (THOUGH DON'T DRINK THE JUICE!). They have a good fix on fun places to go (especially to eat!) and they didn't mind that my friend had thrown up on her bedding. They sell a lot of very handy supplies really cheaply at the desk but don't allow outside food or drink in (boo!).

However it's far from the cleanest place I've ever stayed, and it was either very cold or hot depending on which room/corridor you were in.

Not sure what all these bad reviews about rats and cockroaches all over the place, we stayed for over a week in two separate rooms and we never saw a single pest!

Put "Terrible" for swimming pool and fitness centre as they don't have one and I can't figure out how to unrate it.

Excellent experience but not very clean!

I have never been to a hostel in Europe/USA/Mexico or Canada that are the biggest snutty clicky ppl in my life they reek attitude that they don't like working there. They offer a breakfast with the cost but act like they are doing u a favor the heat does not work and there are even possible electrical problems. I've worked in the service industry most of my life and i can say all but for 2 of the staff there should be working in this environment. The worst hostel i have ever stayed in. No let me spell it out PERIOD

Snobby ppl should never be staffed at a hostal

Having stayed in many hostels, I strongly discourage this one. The places are dirty, there's a huge lack of hygiene, especially in the mattresses, which are really disgusting. There's only one non-private bathroom per floor which means that the whole floor has to share two showers and a sink. We ended up at five in the bathroom and brushing our teeth at the same time. Last September I stayed at Hostelling International in Toronto which is top of the line. I was really disappointed. For one night it's going well but I wouldn't have stayed another night.

What to Avoid

In the center of Toronto. Basic stuff, clean, friendly staff, back yard bar, very good selection on services. Bus- and streetcar stops just around the corner. Very good value/money ratio. Breakfast ( modest) included. Outdoor and indoor bar.

Part of my RTW-trip.

The only good thing about this hostel is its location. It's super central and you can walk to the CN Tower. It's dirty inside. The staff doesn't seem to have the patience to listen to the guests. The rooms smell bad and are badly ventilated, which is terrible in Toronto's hot summer heat.

I'm sorry about that.

I saw one guy who left the place, his arms looked he had chickenpox.  That was due to the bedbugs.

The refrigerator never gets cleaned so all the food gets smashed together, which means more abandoned/rotting food and less space to put new food.  The staff doesn't seem to care.  The place does have a lot of tables.  WiFi goes out for hours.  It was very cold, at least when I was there.

Rats, Bedbugs, Cochroaches

The hostel is great. It's pretty clean for a hostel. The people who work there are totally nice and open-minded. The hostel bar in the garden is a must! cheap prices, nice people from all over the world and good music. Every morning there is a free breakfast. It's affordable but enough :) the location is the hammer. You can walk anywhere. The subway station is also not far away.

Very good hostel

Having travelled and visited and worked in several hostels for young people this is definitely the worst of all. The staff is really unpleasant and the health conditions are horrible. If you ever want to have a good time and meet people this is not the place! Alcohol and all drinks and food are forbidden in the rooms and the staff checks and does not bother to enter the rooms in a totally rude way. If you ever have guests, he can't go upstairs. My three sisters and I really regret our choice. We felt like we were at a parent's house or we couldn't do what we wanted.
