Great location - close to shops, pubs, restaurants and bars, my friends and I walked everywhere.
Nice clean rooms too with comfortable beds. My friend and I got a private room with a bunk bed. Not too noisey being right in town and hearing people talk wasn’t too bad.
Only frustrating thing is the showers hot water taking so so so long to get hot.
Would I stay again? Absolutely :)

Overall Great

We stayed at HI Central for 9 nights. I can really recommend this place - it's clean and tidy, the staff is very friednly and welcoming, and I couldn't ask for better location. The breakfasts were superb - they're quite the same each day but satisfying (sweet pastries,  apples, oranges, jam/peanut butter with toasts...). 
The only one annoying thing was a smell coming from our bathroom (we stayed in a room with private bathroom), which was just next to the shared bathroom. You could smell not only cosmetics but also weed (it wasn't allowed to smoke inside the building  but apparently some people didn't care and some didn't control them). I'm tolerant and I understand the situation but something could be done in this case.  

Shared kitchen is equipped with microwaves, fridges, kettles... No hobs.

Nice room, great location but 'hotbox' included

I had a proper private room, bathroom included. Though located in the middle of Vancouver this place is quite silent and I‘d slept well if not shaken by the Jetlag. 

Breakfast is okay for one morning, I started eating outside as there are only toasts, cereals and bagels with butter, Marmelade and peanut butter. 

The only thing I really didn’t like was the attitude of the staff. They didn’t greet or even smiled at the guests. What’s the problem with being at least a little friendly to the guests?? 

Besides: perfect spot for exploring the city by feed. Also easily accessible by train and a few minutes of walk from the city center train station.  

Good choice if you like hostels 

The cheapest place in town but still overpriced.
We stayed for two nights (second night only because we couldn't find anywhere else).
The first night our room smelt like the toilets next door. The second night we had a cockroach. Everywhere needs a deep clean.
The staff are very mixed, some very helpful others dismissive. 
The location is good.
Would definitely stop elsewhere if in Vancouver again.

Cheapest place for a reason

I am from Winnipeg Manitoba small place, but born and bred right in the praries and I can say I wondered if I was in Canada because the walls seemed to never be washed, my bed frame had what looked like a booger. One of the rooms had a bed bug that was feasting on me for 3 nights had to wash and dry everything! Had no re imburment for 160 dollars worth of travelling luggage or my 200 dollar winterboots I had to throw out. The staff there were more than friendly, nontheless proper cleanliness and inspection could have easily prevent this from happening and this place in my opinioun is managed terribly. Cleanliness for Canadians is always number one and from what Ive seen from this hostel is a quick cash grab from foreigners. Give us our moneys worth and make sure its clean.

Filthy, Dirty and Loud

We stayed here for three nights in a double en suite room.
This hostel is situated right in the middle of Vancouver with Canada Place to one side and Granville Island the other. Both of these places are worth visiting and are within easy walking distance. Granville Island, which we accessed by using the cheap and frequent water bus, has quite an eclectic selection of shops as well as an interesting food market. The Granville Brewery is well worth a visit as well.
The hostel was nice and clean, but we felt that the breakfast room seemed rather cramped for the number of people staying there but we do appreciate that because of the building itself, it would be difficult to improve this area.
Staff were helpful and polite.

Great location

What you mean by a hostel is here. A bed for sleeping, a community bath and a kitchen that was. The rooms are spacious enough and have lockers. The bathrooms are mostly clean and divided into individual rooms that you can close, so you're practically alone in the bathroom, which is very positive. The kitchen is comparatively small. Breakfast is included in the price, but it's limited. Unfortunately, everything has gotten a little old, so a renovation might not hurt. This is very friendly and helpful. The situation is very good. Tip: There's also a hostel run by the same operator in downtown, which I think is a little better.

Fulfilling the Purpose

We spent a lot of time in hostels, but we haven't seen a house like this inhabited yet. In September 2019, we looked at Vancouver for four days. This hostel is very central and was priced acceptably from the standpoint. We paid 170 C$ for a double room with a private bathroom. Sure, Vancouver is a very expensive flat, but for that price I expect clean towels and equipment that is not from 1990. Both were not self-evident.

Required renovation

Great location with Yaletown and the Waterfront both within walking distance.  The free breakfast available is pretty good and the kitchen was clean every day.  The staff were friendly and helpful.  Our private room’s bathroom was bright and clean.  Strong WiFi.

I’m not a light sleeper and this is a noisy hostel at night, both from the guests and from the overnight cleaner doing the bathrooms.  The hostel is on Granville which is a bit grimy (good) but loaded with crazy homeless (bad) - I wouldn’t want to be roaming these streets at night.  The bed linen looked clean but I was waking up each day with fresh bites.

Not the worst hostel I’ve stayed at though.  On balance it’s ok.

Where to start? My wife and I have stayed here close to 10 times now. It has gotten worse and worse over the last couple years, culminating in tonight. 

I’m writing this at 2;45 am, unable to sleep after HOURS of obnoxious people slamming doors, loudly talking on cellphones (with their phones set to speaker mode cranked up) in the hallway, people RUNNING on the fourth floor, stomping down the stairs. 

At about 2 am, someone started cleaning the washrooms. He was clanging open the toilet paper dispensers, loudly talking on his phone while changing garbages, flushing all the toilets, etc etc. I finally stepped out and asked him what he was doing and said that it was 2 am. He said “oh ok sorry bro.” Completely unacceptable. What kind of idiot thinks that it’s a good idea to go around doing custodial work while people are trying to sleep?

On top of this, the pillows are incredibly uncomfortable, basically nothing, and the bed only has a base sheet and one heavy blanket on it. The washroom in our private room had a damp towel folded up in front of the shower when we arrived, which makes you wonder if they actually even bother cleaning the rooms after people leave. Here’s hoping they actually changed the base sheet at least. 

To sum up, HI Central is a joke. It used to be an ok place to spend the night, but it has really gone downhill. We won’t be staying here ever again, and I strongly recommend anyone reading this to consider spending the extra $50-100 to stay at the Best Western just down the street instead. 

Severely disappointed. Complete waste of $160.
