My hubby and i checked in for 4 night reservation via bookings.com.When we checked in, the room was very very run down. Wall paper was peeled off in many parts in the room. Furniture was very worn out. This is very different from what we see from the internet booking site. Lobby smelled of heavy smoking. Credit card facility was not functioning and i have to wait for 2 hours for them to fix it up for payment. "Free Wifi" is tied to a registration local phone number. Worst of it, there was 2 electricity cut on our 1st evening. Only good point is the hotel is just above the Metro entrance. 

In short, there are many hotels around, better standard and value for money. We checked out after 1 night, as we are too paraniod to stay there after 2 electricity cuts in 1 evening, and sleeping in a very worn-out room.

Find somewhere else...not worth the value

It's a shame they treated us so badly in the end because this is an ok hotel if you are on a budget, the rooms are simple and the location is very good. Unfortunately these features do not make up for two armed police officers accompanied by the manager banging on our door as we get ready for bed, entering and then demanding to see our passports. We had done nothing wrong and when the police realised this, they left but we were offered no apology or explanation from the hotel. There's the summary, more details below if interested. 

On our second night at the hotel we returned to find our card key was not working, this is common so we went downstairs to have it reactivated, the reception don't speak English by the way but usually it's not a problem with google translate. However this time, he translated something in Russian, we asked for English and he laughed and shook his head (as if he thought we were lying) and translated into English "are you going back out this evening?" We thought this was odd and said no, and he reacitvated our card so we could go back to our room. 
Half an hour later there was a bang at the door, I looked through the fisheye to see two armed police officers and the hotel manager. I opened the door thinking this must be a mistake but they burst in and demanded passports. Shaking, we handed our passports over and tried to show him our visas (we assumed this was the issue) but he wasn't interested in them and seemed to check our name against a list. 
He then said to the hotel manager, they're English (we roughly translated it later) and both policemen walked out. The manager offered no apology or explanation and when we checked out the next day had made sure that he was not around for our questions. 
Given that China is a very sensitive and heavily guarded country with strict rules and policies, we were terrified and didn't sleep that night. I'm actually still traumatised now looking back (yes I am a wimp, I know). 
Please be careful when you visit China and I would avoid this hotel racist hotel. (Clearly the police are looking for a couple of Russians for whatever reason and felt that as we were the only western guests, it must be us).

"Armed police in our room"- Ok hotel but tarnished by our terrifying experience

No one here speaks English, so you need a basic knowledge of Chinese or an interpreter.  Rooms where very large with two double beds in there, very clean and servicing of the room every day if you want it.  Bathroom was large with a huge shower and the usual complimentary soaps, toothpaste etc.  Great A/C if you needed it as well.  On the downside, the built in wardrobe was very small, with only 4 hangers.  There was only 1 chair in the room.  The beds are very hard (as they always are in China) so if you have a bad back think carefully before coming here.  If you need anything extra in the room, like extra pillows, you will struggle to get them because no=one speaks any English.  If you did manage to get anything the staff were very efficient at getting them to you.  We liked it here and ended up staying for a month, because we only slept there really and as I say it was lovely and clean.

Decent hotel for the money

I booked this hotel from booking.com, there was economic twin room promotion - seemed like good offer because there was CNY80 difference from the normal twin room rate. From the pictures they provided on the website, the room looks quite nice, minimalist design with window. 

When we arrived at the hotel, to our surprise we were told that the room that we booked actually has no window! (Note: receptionist can not speak english). It is located at the middle of the building - hence the 'no window' situation. We thought that it's not a big problem so we continue check in. After seeing the room, honestly we are really disappointed. This is an old hotel that really need interior renewal. Old carpets at the corridor.. leak spots from room airconditioner.. wallpaper start coming off from the wall.. dim lighting.. ripped towels.. smoke smell thoughout the building.. bathroom condition also wasn't any better. Room appearance was nothing close to those pics on the booking.com website. :(

On the plus side, this place located just beside metro exit (dengshikou exit A-note there is only escalator going up, for going down have to take stairs), and just few mins walk to Wangfujing area. Airport shuttle bus just across the building (infront of Regent Hotel). Hotel breakfast costs CNY18. Free wifi available.

hotel seriously need refurbishment

I booked this hotel online and for the first time I have been somewhat disapointed at the disparity between room photo's and actual room.  It does the job at best. The reality is that everything is a little tired and worn. It is not as funky as the pictures imply.  The staff don't speak a word of English.  Breakfast is very expensive with a very limited western selection, much better off going outside for breakfasts. BYO coffee.  The staff tried very hard, just difficult for them with no English skills.

It's just as neat and slightly worn out as it is in the pictures. The staff doesn't speak a word of English. Breakfast is very expensive with a very limited Western selection, you'd rather have breakfast outside. Bring your own coffee.

I booked this hotel online and for the first time I was partly disappointed by the discrepancy between the photographs of the room and what it actually looks like. The photo shows the room in its best shape, but in reality it's a little lost and worn out. It's not as good as it looks in the photos. The hotel staff don't speak English at all. Breakfast is very expensive with a very limited selection of Western dishes. It's better to have breakfast outside the hotel. Coffee is nowhere to be found.
