Okay so, I have really mixed feelings about this hostel. No doubt about the fact that it's very very dirty. I stayed in a double room for 4 nights. The toilet was so dirty I went to buy my own bleach and gave it a good scrub. It is situated in the hutong, people call it a traditional area but to me it's just a really old and poor district of Beijing. On the other hand I loved the place, I met some awesome people and the day me and my friend decided to go to the Great Wall the owner offered himself to give us a lift, wait for us for about 4 hours and then take us back for an overall price of 200 yuan, which is a bargain if you know how expensive it is to actually get there.
If you are not squeamish about having to fight a spider or two and getting bitten by Mosquitos then this is the place for you. The aircon on the other hand was fantastic, something hard to find in china!

Mixed feelings

Don't stay here if you don't have to! I was booked in at Dragon King round the corner but they were full for the sat night so I moved to Sweet Garden as everywhere else local was booked up, and got a dorm bed for same price ¥70. 

I've stayed in lots of dorms around Asia but this one really was dirty. So bad I didn't  even want to shower here so snuck back into my old hostel! The only thing that looked clean was the bed linen (thankfully). Locker was broken so didn't lock (however there were smaller ones downstairs). Air con was clogged up with so much filth that room was stuffy and I caught a cold from
it even though I'm usually pretty immune. Was v glad to get out of there the next morning!

Dirty. Find somewhere else!

I stayed there for 6 nights with my friends.
The staff was nice and helpful although their english is rather poor. But there was always someone around that could help translate :)
They have a cozy common room where you can sit (with wifi). Sometimes they watch movies there in the evening. Oh, and a really cute small cat.
The location in a hutong (traditional living area with small houses and yards) is good, very authentic. Around are some small  and mostly good places to eat something.
Mostly young chinese guests, all very friendly.
It may be not totally clean but it's a nice place to stay and also get in conact with chinese people. I would recommend going there!

Really nice hostel

Good points: helpful staff, good location with subway station close by and many eateries. Good sense of community in the communal rooms, they even showed War Horse one evening.

Bad points: Room had not been cleaned, bedside table had bit of rubble on it and cigarette butt in the shower room. Hot water only lasted for 5 mins as it came from a small tank. Beds have lumpy springs that dipped in the middle.

The staff had a puppy which they didn't let outside and continued to kick him for going to the toilet inside. Also they had a fat goldfish that lived in a bowl no bigger than a drinking tumbler, so it can only turn a few degrees at a time. I don't think they understand how to treat pets properly.

They also asked for double the amount for our stay but luckily we had a booking confirmation printed out so they had to honour the price stated.

Good location in typical Hutong

The hostel is OK, it's fairly standard and it's in a good location - you can walk to Wangfujing from here and get around fairly easily. There's definitely no frills - it's cheap and the rooms are big but the people really made it for us - local people staying at the hostel at the time - cooked us dinner, helped us when we had money stolen, took us out for a night out... The manager does not speak English though and it's best to phone ahead to make sure they're open. Taxis might have difficulty finding it as it's down a hutong...
