stayed here on vacation with a few friends, we took up 2 family-sized rooms, which each included a queen-sized bed and a twin-sized bed, plus private bathroom with shower. 

Overall experience was very positive, mostly due to the convenient location and the quality of the service. The rooms and beds were very clean, the staff came in and tidied the place up every day, which is not a service we usually got in hostels. Additionally, we used the laundry service several times during the stay, which included us leaving the permitted amount of laundry with the staff, paying the fee, and answering a few simple questions. The result was us returning to the hostel at the end of day finding our clothes washed and neatly hung to dry in the courtyard. Travelers who are accustomed to getting their clothes laundered, tumbled dried with lavender scented sheets, and folded into a box tied up with the purple ribbons might find this method crude, but for us budget travelers, this was very nice. 

Other reviewers have already mentioned the convenience factor, I would just like to add that, given how convenient it is, it's actually a pretty quiet place tucked away from the noises of the busy streets. 

The only downside is that the shower is not at the in-your-face gallon-per-second level that I, as a long-haired person, have grown to require. It might not be a problem for others. 

In conclusion, very good choice for this price range.

Good Location, Good Service, Nice & Quiet

The location is really great, a few steps from the metro station, in a very nice and quiet hutong. The traditional structure is beautiful, the rooms are essential and small, the bathroom is tiny. The staff of the hostel speaks English and is available, friendly and friendly. There is a common kitchen and a washing machine available.

Hutong of Beijing

The Hostel is located near the Xisi metro station. Its a bit tricky to find, since it is located in a small back street.

The staff is really nice and helpful. They speak decent english mostly. 

The rooms are clean. Toilettes and showers too.

We can recommend to stay there.

Just one thing: Dont bother the tours they sell to the great wall. Our Tour "Jinshanling to Simatai" was halfway to a scam. Yes we started at Jinshanling, but the time we had (two and a half hours) was just enough to reach the beginning of the simatai part. And We even had no traffic jam on our way to the wall. You may could make it to the simatai part if you run the whole thing. The bus stops a Jinshanling west and you get on at Jinshanling east - as you see, there is no bus stop for simatai.
The price is ridicioulus high (290yuan just for the ride in a big bus, 65 for the entrance, 40yuan for the cablecar, which was promoted by our "guide" as the only chance to see the simatai Section). The "guide" was no where to be seen on the wall. The whole tour felt like a ripoff and it is easily the most disappointing memory of our 4 weeks tour in China.
Just do a bit research and do the tour on your own.

So I would give the hostel 4 points, but the tour Experience makes it the 3 points. Actually Im still so mad about the tour that Im still considering giving only 2 points as I write this review...

Good rooms, very nice staff, very poor tours

My husband and I stayed in a 4 bed mix dorm for 3 nights and very pleased with our stay there. Room was spacious and clean, with a person locker in the room. Facilities were decent too. Although, the showers' drainage was blocked with hair, which needed cleaning, and hence one would end up standing in a pool by the end of it. Otherwise, pretty decent private shower, and clean if not for the blocked drainage. 

Staff spoke English, which is a tremendous bonus in China :) they were friendly and helpful. 

It can be hard to find it because it isnlocated in the back ally. All in all, great location, close to the subway, supermarket, and the forbidden city. We would recommend it!

A very pleasant hostel

this is hard to find you need to look down the alley for a sign in red and white that says "hostel" the lane way is near the supermarket in the street and right next to a very busy little restaurant. very close to the subway, and there are a few different eating places around. The staff are just great and speak excellent English. l had a queen bed with en-suite, it is a small bathroom with shower and toilet and sink l found it hard to shut the door when  was on the toilet :) so guys will find it difficult. Bed was hard but that is standard in China and l liked the hard beds. Also if you have tv there are only Chinese channels anyway. Also in China l found that their idea of clean was not mine but again this is the standard in China. All in all l would defiantly stay here again

good location and great staff

We stayed for 3 nights in this hostel and took the 4 bedded dorm. Seems like all the other rooms are private rooms which has the shower and toilet ensuite so it is just the 4 of us that is using the shared bathroom and toilet. The bathroom, toilet, kitchen and rooms were cleaned everyday. In terms of the room cleaning it doesn't meant that they will do your beds but they will clear the dustbin and mop the floor which is sufficient for us. The kitchen can be used at a cost of 20CNY per hour which we didn't use. But we do use their washing machine at the same cost of 20CNY per load. They do not have a dryer though but do provide hangers and place to dry your clothes.

Location wise, this place is awesome! Even though it is quite difficult to find it as first because it doesn't have the wordings 'Alborada' even at their entrance, everything is in Chinese! But the 2 girls do speak good English. Near the hostel, there is a supermarket called Merry Mart (8am - 9.30pm) and a 24hrs convenience store called Hi-24. There are a lot of eateries and I counted there are about 5 halal stalls within walking distance. Xisi subway station is very near and there are bus stops nearby as well. We do take the bus a lot because it is cheaper and can reach places that do not have subways access. 

If you're ever coming to Beijing, take their 'Yikatong' which is Beijing Transportation card. Refundable deposit of 20CNY and any unutilised balance is refundable as well. With this card, taking the bus is cheaper which cost only 1CNY instead of the normal 2CNY. We even use this card to go to Great Wall, Mutianyu Section which cost only 6CNY. We don't have to take a tour guide which cost around 200-400CNY per day!

Comfy hostel and great location!

We stayed 4 nights in this hostel. It is on a hutong street, which gives it a certain charm. It is very close to the Xisi metro and right next to a market/supermarket. The room was right (not very big) and clean, with air conditioning. The facilities were also good and the common areas were also (right and clean). The bathroom and shower were outside the room, but that was no inconvenience. It is possible to go for a laundry at a cost per washer. Without a doubt the best thing about the hostel is the people who manage it (speak perfectly).

A good place with perfect attention.

We were very well received in Alborada despite our early arrival (8 a.m.) our room was already ready, which allowed us to rest after our 3 o'clock drive! Our room was spacious, with TV, Western toilet (happy!), shower etc. The tour offered by the hostel to the Great Wall was very nice. The staff listening was always kind enough to answer even our most fervent questions. Finally, the typical setting adds charm to the whole. In short, a perfect place for a trip to Beijing.

Good hotel, welcome to the top!

We stayed five nights and were satisfied. The hostel is close to Xisi metro station, Line 4, from which you can get to Tian'anmen Square in 20 minutes, for example. It is on a side street, which makes the area very quiet. The staff speak English and help wherever they can. Even the post office came to help us with a package home. We had a Delux room with a double bed, a single bed and a bathroom. The room was clean, had comfortable and warm water. Even shampoo and tea. There was also a kitchen that could be rented for RMB 20 per hour. We also recommended the hostel to Mahan. We can really recommend the tour here.

A simple and good hostel

El Hostal Alborada is located about 100 meters from Metro Xisi, vital for moving around in Beijing. El Chico is a very kind and very pretty person. When I made the reservation, he sent me an email explaining in great detail how to get to the hostel and the references were so accurate that I didn't miss them. It's just in a working-class neighborhood but walking about 20 minutes to the back of the Forbidden City. It's a simple hostel with simple bathrooms, something uncomfortable and small rooms, but the fair price for a city that offers hotels a little caros compared to other Chinese cities.
