Hostel is located near Hongqiao ( Rainbow Bridge ) the busiest point in FengHuang. We were given Room 103 with an excellent view but it is very noisy, music stopped at 2330 but night food hawkers continued until early morning. The noise started next morning before 7 am with huge group arrivals with guides using microphone. Please take note that only squatting toilets are available.

Same ancient town all over

The location of the hostel was reasonably good, right on the river front, but this meant that it could only be reached by foot and was hard to find. We had not booked a room and because the receptionist did not speak very good English, we ended up paying dorm rates for a private double room. Although this was very nice, the room was still damp, musty  and so not very comfortable. The one English speaking staff member was very helpful, showing us how to use the laundry facilities and booking on-wards transport for us. Generally, as Fenghuang is mainly a Chinese tourist town and not that many Westerners visit it, I would recommend paying a few RMB extra to book a nice double room with a river view. As a backpacker on a student budget, this seemed like much to much money, but there are lots of good value options in Fenghuang, which, if you are traveling as a group of two or more will work out to cost the same as a hostel. One last comment, we arrived at night and did not go and visit any of the big sites and so managed to avoid paying for the through ticket and still had a great time!

Not the nicest place, try somewhere else.

We spent 2days/1 night in Fenghuang. The service was great, they came to pick us up and were helpful the entire time. We slept in a room on the third floor, which had a small window that had a very nice view. Only thing was, because of the humidity, it did not smell great (smell from the toilets) in the room and outside, and not very clean around the shower/bathroom area. There is a cosy bar downstairs which is nice, and wifi works fine. Was worth the price, but not more. Great location to visit the surroundings though!

Very nice people, less about the accomodation...

Fenghuang has plenty of accommodations at reasonable prices - avoid this one at at all cost:
- staff is rude at best : at our arrival the staff at reception ignored us even when we called her out, too busy with a computer game
- staff is unhelpful, unwilling to give information to customers and does not speak English
- wifi is only available to private room customers
- bathrooms are filthy - our toilet was leaking our entire stay
- lobby is also filthy and is always empty, no ambiance whatsoever
- neighborhood is very noisy, especially in the evenings - surrounding bars have"amateur" night every night
- bed did not have a matress

Avoid

Alright. So this staff is not at all helpful. As we did bookings we where told to be met up and led to the hostel ( it's really hard to find your way through the old town). We had to call the owner 3 times to convince him to help us. Other hostel walked us in the right direction and were so helpful. All but our hostel.
Turned out they were busy doing nothing as we got there. 

Alright. Really really bad internet/WiFi(it barely reaches the room), no public computer. We were promised toiletries but no towels, soap, shampoo or conditioner. We had to ask for soap and he showed us where he kept it. But we had to walk down every time we wanted to use the soap.
There is mould in the shower, the door to the dorm room is broken and it's fairly loud.

They have electric blankets which is awesome, otherwise we'd freeze to death. 

I wouldn't recommend staying at this hostel, find another and you'll be better off :)

Also just heads up for the "old town fee" . You'll have to pay to enter the old town (of which the hostel is located) so make sure you bring some cash :) 

Oh, and I had a cockroach in my slippers and there were mouse poop in the drawers.

Mouse poop, cockroaches, cold and somewhat bad service

A cold, wet, dirty room and a bathroom that's not one of them! You have to pay extra for the heating so much to say that in the middle of January it's horrible! Mosquitoes crushed ten times on the walls of the previous tenants. A door on the balcony that doesn't close and so the cold constantly invades the room. And a single hot water balloon for the room that's ridiculously small for two people!

It's a terrible place. Too bad there's not much left.

I just spent two nights in this hostel, well done, because there was nothing else free and because it was my previous hostel to Zhangjiajie who had advised me and made the reservation for me. A real disaster; dirty, smelling moisture and or everything sticks to your skin. cockroaches, toilets with disgusting turkey, a bathroom that shouldn't even carry that name and dangerous noise limit all night. The only special mention for the hostel man who talks about the hostel as he can and young English.
