This hostel was nice, but not worth 30 dollars per night. It was impossible to sleep with construction work next door all night, dogs barking on the premisis, the room was really hot because there was no AC and the fans were very high up so they did not reach the bottom bunks. The shower was cold. There was no bathrooms in the dorm, but downstairs. The breakfast was not filling, just fruit and toast which was nice, but an egg for protein would have prevented the need for a second breakfast. The staff were not overly friendly. And due to limited English, they booked the wrong bus for us and the wrong amount of nights. When we wanted our money back for the shuttle bus, they said they couldn't give it back via card, or in colones. And we realised later that one of the 50 dollar notes was ripped so we can't use it in Costa Rica either. Also the yoga was not good.

Too expensive

I was awoken everyday at 7 every morning for yoga conducted right infront of my room. I am a yogi hence I chose to stay here but did not realise the my room/ studio would open onto yoga area literally. This meant having to move around yogis to get back to my room after breakfast. Yoga is 2-3 times a day.

Other things I noticed:

-There was a hole in door with only duck tape sealing it.

-Decided to stay because of kitchen available but cooker not working it appeared. Receptionist informed me I needed to use a lighter to ignite it which not ideal.

-Had to make breakfast myself while reception staff just sit about talking to long stay guests. On first day when I sat infront of reception rather than in hut, the receptionist gave me breakfast with 1 slice of toast only so hardly satisfying.

-Not great atmosphere. Lot of clicky long stay guests / hippies that don't even smile. 

Other than that room was clean at least!

Not a zen stay at all!

I was staying at a hotel next door but wanted to do some yoga in the evenings- Casa Zen offers yoga about 2-3x per day and it was $12 a class which wasn’t bad considering my own hotel was charging $15 for guests and $20 for drop ins, for the yoga that they provide. So I preferred to check out Casa Zen! Mats, blocks, pillows are provided and were in good condition. The atmosphere of the yoga studio was very zen - a nice balcony area, some incense, essential oils, etc. Both teachers instructed in English for the two classes I attended. Quality of the instructors was great, wish I could remember their names.

Overall I felt their yoga classes are a great option for something to do after it gets dark outside at 5:30pm! Check out their 6:30pm yoga, whether you stay at another hotel or not.

Drop-In Yoga Classes

We had a room with 6 bunk beds, one bunk bed is 12$/night with breakfast included. Breakfast was a plate of fruit and a toast - only one tho, which wasnt much but it was very tasty. Only drawback might be that the water in the shower is not warm, but it was still ok. Very recommended!

Great stay!

Stayed here for a week as a surfari base camp.  Stayed in the dorm area with six beds and it room met my expectations for the price.  Matress was a little worn but I had no problem sleeping.  What was great was the common area, plenty of private bathrooms and two good kitchens with a fridge.  Super international mix of guests from US, Germany, Canada, Argentina, Israel, etc.  Guests were mid 20s through 40s and pretty chill.  Yoga was legit.  Wifi worked great. 
Heard howler monkies all around and saw iguanas and armadillos. Most guests liked it so much they were extending.  But be warned, it is hot all of the time and clothes are hard to dry.

Loved this place

I have stay several times at Casa Zen, traveling solo, with family and friends and always has been great in several things. 1. Clean 2. Friendly and familiar: it is run by a Costa Rican guy for several years now! 3. Convenient: good prices, 2 kitchens and several restrooms. Private room are simple but wide and dorms are simple but usually people are quite and organized. Definitely a place im repeating later on

Chill and warm vibes at 1 minute from the beach

It startles me how people working in the service industry can be so unfriendly. (Especially as someone in a similar profession) The female receptionist was rude, unhelpfull and anoyed by contact with customers, staight out ignored me to finish coversations with friends. The male receptionist just answered all of my questions, about yoga and transportation, wrong. Also the kitchen and bathroom cleaning had clearly been very neglected. And Casa Zen is not a cheap place. The yoga class I took was ok, but overcrowded and I have never done yoga on a smellier mat. Santa Theresa beach is beautiful but I recommend exploring it from another place until changes in staff and attitude are made.

Not a Zen stay

I am spending the month in Santa Teresa and have been going to Casa Zen almost everyday for yoga. My favorite teacher is Jenn because she is a wonderful teacher and also so positive and supportive. The others are very good too, but Jenn is the best. Just be aware that this is an outdoor class so it does become very hot!

Yoga classes

Then this might be the place for you. Zen is the condition for the activation of creativity, and like anything else, it needs perfect settings... ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Luckily, for you that is exactly what the owner has done with the place. There are no TVs, projectors nor a lot of electronics. The staff really knows how to just "Keep calm and stay Zen"! 

Don't come here if you're looking for a party hostel.If you want to wake up early in the morning thinking #ThisIsSoFreesh and want to have the opportunity for morning yoga and meet people with healthy lifestyle in focus, then you will be more than happy here!

Are you planning on going into zen mode?

Very convenient location, very close to the beach. It would be nice if they installed AC, otherwise very nice. Basic breakfast, but very rich in fruits. If you go to a Santa Teresa they carry mouth blankets, for the dust of the roads.
