I booked a room for one night so I wouldn’t have to stay in my car until my flight left the next day at 2 pm. After a three-hour drive and getting completely lost in a rain storm—the hotel seemed closed. Restaurant closed. No information about having a 4x4 car to get down the hill to the hotel. Only card number to confirm the booking with them. They tell you what they have to offer and how much a room is. I walked downhill at; 1KM with my dog in hand. The mist from the mountain top filled my lungs. I got to the bottom and no one was in sight. No signs. Nothing. This place needs to take down all the “great reviews” “five stars” and just all in all be taken off the internet so no one has to go through what I just went through. This place has nothing to offer but lies and misleading bookings on “booking.com”. After almost passing out going all the way back up the hillside with rocks and mud… I found help with Felipe at a diner—he gave me tea and listened to my story. The name “El Descanso”. They have another restaurant connected to the hotel that is absolutely gorgeous. Very good price for everything it comes with. The hotel is called El Descanso and I will refer them to everyone who wants to be five minutes from an amazing volcano and be around genuine people who care. Don’t make the same mistake I did.

Why is this "Hotel" even on "TripAdvisor" and or "booking.com"....take it off.

Location: nearby volcano natural park (good), rising off the road by a steep, steep path suitable only for 4x4 (bad), away from any civilization. Good views of the valley of S. José. Housing: are some very low-quality mountain huts (being educated). Clean just. The one we grabbed had NO hot water (although they said it did). Around: you can walk down a mountain trail with good views and a pond... which is fine. Food/Additional services: if you do, don't try them. It doesn't seem like it would be the best thing. My summary: there will be plenty to spend a night without more (which was what we did)... although I want to think about many better options for the area. No loans are recommended for families.

Cabaña cutre, not recommended.

This is not a hotel as they paint it. It is too expensive for what it is. We booked it and when we arrived we had to leave at the moment because there was no light, room not conditioned for the cold and not what appears in the photos, it is a room in a ruined chalet. In addition, we politely told the woman that it is not what appeared on the internet and does not want us to return the money of the night. A nightmare of site by location and the way to reach dangerous land and stone for the car. They should eliminate it as a hotel.

Horrible 

This accommodation is not a hotel. It is an old cabin full of holes with a chimney that fills the smoke space. When we arrived there was no electricity, much, we were cold, there was no telephone cover and the wood didn't catch on that chimney. The way to get there is told that it is 500m by road but it is 1.2km from a rural road with a GRAN slope only passable by 4x4 and some experience due to the irregularity of the terrain. Still, we thought we could stay because of the cost but the lack of internet forced us to talk to the woman to get to bed and the owner demanded us half the cost of accommodation.

Don't be fooled like us!

The road accessed by 4x4 is actually impractical and we couldn't get out of the road alone the second day (despite a 4x4 Nissan Xtrail and a skilled driver). It took over an hour for the owner to come. The requested payment is made in cash and we no longer have any contact with the owners. In addition, we are charged 6 dollars per person for breakfast (that is 48 dollars in total for two nights) to leave us a pocket of fruit, eggs, a pocket of bread of honey eaten by the birds, an insufficient amount of butter and cooking and warm-up.

If you absolutely avoid it, you'll find better!

Extremely disappointed by this company. The  accommodation is within the boundaries of the national park which is currently closed due to Volcanic activity and has no expected opening date, you cannot therefore stay at this accommodation.  We booked on the 25th April 2017 for a visit in August. The park was closed indefinitely  on the 13th April following an eruption and a further eruption in June meant it would not open any time soon and yet they still took our booking and didn't inform us of any potential cancellations.  They  cancelled our booking on the morning we were due to arrive!!  Had we known the accommodation   was closed we would have changed our plans but we were forced to stay in a shoddy cabin of one of their  "mates" .  Do not  book to stay here unless the  national park is open. They are still taking bookings from January onw ards  even though it is not known when the park will open.

It's a simple, beautiful place to enjoy the peace and tranquility it offers.The climate is very cool.It's perfect for enjoying nature, near the Poás Volcano.The atmosphere is familiar, the owners are very friendly.

A beautiful place.

The long drive down to the lodge was challenging to say the least, impossible without a 4x4. We were a party of 4 and were given a 3 bedroomed cabina.  Although it was fairly clean, it was very basic with concrete floors and no comfort.  There was no hot water in the whole cabina and no door on the toilet.  The family who ran it were very helpful and the evening meal was wonderful.  Breakfast was basic with little choice.  The views were incredible and we enjoyed our stay, but work needs to be done on the accomodation.

We loved our trip to Lagunillas del Poas. The way to get there is epic and impossible without 4x4. It's better to know Spanish or to be ready to communicate very succinctly but that's part of the charm we think. We were welcomed into a large cabine for us 6, a room and a kind of dormitory. A fire was lit to break the moisture and we were charmed by the location, the view, the colibris,.... rustic but charming stage. And truly the nearby Poas volcano. Attention 4x4 essential.

A picturesque adventure

This is probably one of the most unusual places I have stayed but still had a great time - we stayed there after going to the POAS volcano - which on a side note you want to go to early in the morning or there is a long line to get into the park. 
To get to this gem of a hotel you need a 4x4 jeep/SUV/truck and the ride is quite bumpy - my husband loved the 4x4 aspect - I myself being a city girl - not so much. When we arrived they didn't have our reservation but gave us 2 rooms next to the restaurant which were very clean but also very basic- there are also cabins with beautiful views available - we did not get to go inside any but I think if I was staying more than one night would have preferred. We really had the best time and the food was AMAZING and fresh- this is an adorable family run farm/hotel - the accommodations are very rustic and you definitely have to have a sense of humor but we did laugh and had a great time - there is no internet but we spent our time on the porch enjoying the food and views and a mama horse and her pony played out back and hummingbirds came by for drinks. In the evening we played dominos and drank wine - very relaxing and believe it or not I would go back - it was a fun adventure.
