My husband and I stayed for 2 nights in a Linda Vista suite.  The room is beyond amazing and probably larger than some 1 bedroom apartments.  I could sit on the deck and watch the river all day.

Arriving by river raft, I was a bit apprehensive.  But our guide, Ricardo put me at ease and was a super guide.  Very safe, friendly, and fun!

I wish we stayed longer, because I wanted to experience all the activities provided by the lodge.  The night walk and waterfall hike were very fun and educational (Susanna was an excellent guide). The zip line was so much fun! The guides were very safe and put us at ease even with the surprises!

The food was amazing at the restaurant! I am not used to eating so much food but it was all delicious.  They even have a great vegetarian menu.

The one thing that really stands out for us is the staff and how much care they show.  We felt so taken care of.  My husband wasn't feeling well, and the restaurant even put together special food for him.  They provided transport to a local doctor (shout out to Victor our new amigo!) and really helped us out so much.

The river guides heading out were again amazing.  Shout outs to Ricardo and Luis for a great raft out.  We got through the class 4 rapids very wet but safe and sound.  Along with a delicious lunch, and some photos, we ended out visit on a high note.  

We do need to return so my husband can experience everything!

Unique and amazing with excellent care and service

Pacuare Lodge is a dream. Everything is well organized, the food is of the highest standard, everything is really homemade, even the ice cream! Activities are many to choose from. It is also nice how sustainable the lodge works. We arrived and left by rafting. 

Unique lodge!

My wife and I spent 7 nights this past week at the Pacuare Lodge and from the first moment of contact everything was first class service. In reading other reviews I was a bit skeptical however after spending a full week there I can attest that everything at the Lodge is first class service. 

We stayed in a Linda Vista and also the Jaguar and both were right on the water and absolutely fantastic facilities. Specifically the Jaguar as it is so spacious and also has a self sustaining air conditioner right over the bed which helps sleeping at night.

We did pretty much every excursion and all were great however I personally found the canyoning the most challenging but rewarding as I'm afraid of heights but pushed through it.

The Food!! Simply amazing and while the menu after several days gets repetitive the the chef was very helpful in creating our own specific menu just for us which was amazing.

Finally, below are comments regarding complaints with no kitchen and no snacks. Hogwash! People just looking to complain as at ANY time you can make a phone call and have everything from coffee, soda, pastries, to full blown meals delivered to your room and very promptly.

All in all, if you are feeling a bit skeptical and looking at other options I've traveled to over 30 countries and 47 states and this is right up there at the top of places to stay. While I've stayed in nicer accommodations ultimately what makes this place is the staff and how eager they are to help you and ensure you have a great time. Just book it!

Staying at the Pacuare lodge was a true slice of heaven. Absolutely everything has been thought out and carefully executed: logistics, staffing, food and rooms.

We stayed in a Linda Vista with pool which was a dream. Completely private. The hike up (if you choose not to grab a ride) is a pretty hefty walk uphill but we enjoyed that to work off the amazing meals and jump in the chilly fresh water pool to cool off. From the room we saw toucans, hummingbirds and monkeys in the distance. 

The guides were all knowledgeable and enthusiastic. We especially appreciated Luis whose experience as a competitive rafter and playful nature made the (scary for me) trip fun and eventually even relaxing. Make sure to grab some colones on the way in so that you will have money to tip directly.

The meals were outstanding… every bite impressive and beautifully presented.

This is truly a special lodge made unbeatable by everyone who works as a team, and for sure kudos to management as well for creating an unforgettable experience. Just wow.

Extraordinary in every way

Honestly had the most amazing time here! White water rafting in and out was an amazing experience, the guides were incredible and it felt so safe as well! The rooms were gorgeous and the activities were great- we loved the zipwiring!

Wanted to highlight the food in particular - gluten- free options were amazing! As someone with celiac disease, I had so much choice - eating the most delicious gluten- free pasta, pancakes and cakes - so much selection for a lodge in the jungle! They were also very clued up about cross- contamination, which was very reassuring!

The best experience!

I cannot say enough about how great our experience at the Pacuare Lodge went. From the beginning with a great driver and guide on the way to the lodge along with a fabulous authentic breakfast and fresh coffee. From watching the coffee roasting to brewing, so good. The staff ensured the meal was gluten free as well. Rafting to the lodge was a great start to the 3 days we were there. Ivan, our guide, spent lots of time with our girls and explaining everything. The food was the best we had and the presentation - superb. Who would have thought the food in the middle of the jungle would taste like a Five Star restaurant. The activities were fun and the staff very educated about all things in the jungle. Do it all! Take the long hikes and spend an extra few days. The spa was relaxing and again, the staff was wonderful! There was nothing we didn’t ask that we were given! Coffee at 6am in our room - no problem! The villas were great! There is no air conditioning but the weather was wonderful and there was a plunge pool that was quite cold in case you needed it. The outdoor shower was a favorite! There is hot water but we preferred the cold water after a day of hiking and zip-lining. The raft out was bittersweet as we knew the experience was almost over. The guides prepared a wonderful picnic and demonstrated better prep work than I can do. The pictures of the rafting trip was an added bonus. I enjoyed the Pacuare Lodge better than the Four Seasons! Definitely recommend!

Don’t miss this experience! The rafting, the villa, the FOOD, the staff - First Class service!

We had an absolutely wonderful experience. Our kids weren’t old enough to do the big rafting trip but we were able to raft in - what a great start to a weekend! We stayed in the glorious Jaguar Villa. Enjoyed coffee on the deck over the river each morning. The food at the on-site restaurant was very good. Gorgeous pool, fun zip-lining (the staff that took us was a blast!), and a birder’s paradise. We took our three children (12, 10, 9) and would say for those with families considering this that it would be pretty boring for them if the trip was more than 2-3 days (especially if they aren’t old enough to do the big raft trip). But for our long weekend, it was perfect - they felt super welcome and had a great time!

This is an easy review to write- it requires just one word. “Perfect”.

Just add that in front of everything - accommodation, location, food, staff, tours. Just the most magical and wonderful place. Thank you for making our honeymoon.. perfect.

Perfect

Pacuare Lodge was an incredible experience. Every staff member was genuine, helpful, knowledgeable, and friendly. We went in the off season for our honeymoon and it was very quiet and peaceful. Our Linda Vista room overlooked the Pacuare River and was very open and spacious. No issues with insects and such in the rooms. All excursions were fun, but particularly the morning bird watching, nocturnal hike, canyoning, and zip lining.  The food is also outstanding. Make sure to whitewater raft in and out! 

Amazing stay at Pacuare Lodge!

This review is long overdue.  We stayed at Pacuare Lodge at the end of May, 2 adults & 2 teenage boys (19 & 16).  We arrived in San Jose late evening prior, stayed at the Radisson, perfect for what we needed.  Morning transfer was right on time, we stopped to pick up a 2nd family and off we went.  The ride was great, stopped for breakfast at the sweetest family owned place and had our first Costa Rican breakfast. Delicious.
Agree that rafting in and out is the way to go if possible, our guide was Pedro for both trips, he was knowledgeable, friendly and fun.  Held onto my phone for me and took all sorts of pictures along the way both trips. The raft ride in is short and overall not to crazy, the raft trip out is and adrenaline rush for sure.  We had 3 boats + a kayaker on the trip out and there was one family who did go out of their raft on one of the rapids.  It was amazing to watch all guides go into action to get them safely back into their raft, seriously took less than 10 seconds.
The lodge, people (Luis, Kenneth & Dave to name only a few), food, activities are all amazing.  Again, the guides are so knowledgeable and have so much love for Costa Rica and Pacuare itself. We stayed in the Jaguar Lodge, sound of the river was great, loved having my coffee every morning sitting on the deck right over the river. We hiked, zip-lined, canyoning, swam in waterfalls, saw cool wildlife & met lots of great people. We were there over my birthday and my family surprised me with lunch in the Tree House!  Two groups left the lodge via helicopter, it was cool to see it land and take off along the river!
We will return and hopefully soon. Boena Wilderness Lodge has other resorts in Costa Rica I would like to stay at as well!
This stay was almost a year ago and all 4 of us still talk about how fabulous of a stay we had.
