Not a bad hotel but a few problems. There is a lift that only fits three people. Out of the lift there were eight steps down to my room! There are steps also from the hotel to the roadway. My single room was basic but adequate. Behind the window was just a wall. No view and I was paying a single-room supplement.  It was a squeeze to get into the toilet. I did get a bath mat in order to use the shower which was adequate. There was excellent wifi reception in the room. Breakfast and evening meals were at set times and all self services. The food, on the whole,  was excellent. I liked the fishcakes especially. I was disappointed that ice-cream wasn't an option for dessert although the lemon-drizzle cake was very nice. The staff were all very friendly.  The location along the promenade is excellent. 

OK if you can manage the steps

Our room was at the back of the hotel and quite small. It is the smallest double bed we have ever slept in. the shower, however, was good and easy use. Just and on/off switch and the temperature of the water did not need adjusting.
The food was good. Plenty of choice both at breakfast and dinner. So much easier to have a carvery than to be waited on at the table. 
The hotel is well situated with views over the bay. There is, however no sitting room to relax after the evening meal. The entertainment  was held in the dining room. Shame as the hotel on the whole was very good.

Great Hotel, seafront location. Large Seaview room, lovely/ clean/fresh.  Good food, dining room clean and tidy at all times. Plates cleared from table very quick, plenty of staff available at all times to ensure our stay was as comfortable as it could have been.  Definitely recommend this hotel, would stay again.

Excellent stay, good breakfast, rooms refreshed daily. Bed comfy, decor nice, bathroom abit pokey but functional. Lift is very small, suitable for one person even though it says 4 lol. Only let down was the WiFi, it kept loosing signal, evening meals samey.

Great staff very helpful and friendly nothing to much trouble for them . Great breakfast and plenty of staff to clean tables and bring coffe /tea as soon as you arrive in the restuarant. Room not the biggest but tea/coffee available plus busicuits replenished every day. Very narrow staircase and corridors to rooms. The only downside was a large duct pipe outside our window against the wall ( no view) which fired up about 5.30am each morning which wakened us up as it was quite noisy. If returning would pay for a front facing room. No parking  but could park on  road outside with parking disc for 2 hours  at a time up till 6pm.

Typical of a seafront hotel. Lots of stairs not good for those of limited mobility, one small lift 3 people maximum.
Our room small only one chair, basic but OK for a short visit.
Handy for independent travelling as on a bus route, and near the steam and electric railway 

Worth a visit if you don't mind stairs 

Claiming to be a 3* hotel is a joke and calling it a hotel is a bigger joke! In March I emailed the establishment twice offering to pay for a room upgrade instead of taking a chance with the room allocated after reading some reviews. The management didn’t have the decency to respond to either email which says a lot for the running of a business. 
Although some rooms have been renovated it has been done very cheaply, tackily and concerns have been raised from fellow residents regarding showers. No handrails for the elderly, no shelf for toiletries so everything has to be on the floor……Very sensible!!
On arrival we were allocated room 303, I say room as they refer to it as a “standard double” The actual truth is that it is an oversized cupboard! The bathroom has to be negotiated crab fashion. I am 12 and a half stone and that was the only way I could get to either the toilet or the shower. There was a cupboard that attempted to act as a wardrobe but it wasn’t fully accessible as it only opened half way owing to the lowest bedside drawer I have ever seen, so one had to access the open bit crab fashion. I should also add that the bed was only a three quarter as a normal standard bed wouldn’t fit. The view from the window can be seen in the photos provided as are the room details.
Having raised our concerns with the manager the following morning and at a cost we transferred our belongings to room 121 which was much bigger but as previously stated it was cheaply done and to a degree dangerous in the shower as there was no hand rail or shelf which seems to be the norm. There is a notice that states if you need a shower mat ring and one will be delivered to your room. I asked the manager at 07.45 before we went out and at 16.30 it still hadn’t been delivered. Finally one arrived at 17.00. Today, Wednesday after the room had been serviced yesterday we were left with half a toilet roll. It is now 13.30 and we have no toilet roll so after yet another trip down to reception two were delivered in 10 minutes. 
The food is pretty good but by the time you have got back to your table it is only lukewarm. Sunday evening was beef which was like leather and Tuesday evening it was beef again. The restaurant staff are very good if very young, they are attentive and obliging. 
If you are expecting a 3* hotel then this place falls really short and should be avoided. The company that owns the place is called “Sleepwell” sadly with the establishment falling short in almost every way possible we certainly didn’t sleep well and we wouldn’t stay with the company ever again.
On a positive note the Isle of Man is well worth a visit.
I need to point out that this review is a true fact and if you read almost all my previous reviews you will see that 98% have brilliant feedback.

An imposing hotel, on the seafront.  Staff were lovely, food was very good, considering on our last morning we had to leave for the ferry quite early, breakfast was buffet style, hot and ready for us.  We had a beautiful room overlooking the seafront.  Although some of our party were given a dismal back room with no view which didn’t seem fair, although a couple asked to be moved, which they were the following day.  We returned to our room from a tour around the island at around 4pm one day and the room was not cleaned, beds not made etc.  it seems the cleaning staff take too much time chatting and not enough time working.  And on closer inspection of our ‘beautiful’ room (I watch Four in a Bed) the duvet cover had a dirty mark which looked like blood.  We wondered why the water wasn’t draining in the shower and going all over the floor.  On closer inspection of the drain….  It was absolutely full of hair which made me feel quite sick.  And the corner of the outside of the shower unit was a dirty dark brown gooey mess.  Please see photos.  If the room had been ‘cleaned’ on our return and hadn’t been left so dirty I would have given five stars.   Your cleaning staff are letting The Chesterhouse down, which is a pity.

Lovely Hotel, perfect location on the seafront with plenty of amenities in easy walking distance.
Staff were friendly and looked after everyone and nothing was a problem.
The food was really good and always plenty of choice.
Our room was 107 and I would recommend if you are allocated this room to request another. It was absolutely awful!!! It was small and the bed was only of 3 quarter size definitely not a double bed. Myself and my husband really struggled sleeping in it as my husband has shoulder problems and nearly fell out a few times when trying to turn over. There seems to be a generator or some such thing under the room and kicked in every morning at 5.30 and the pipes came up through the corner of the room in the wardrobe making it unbearably hot. A fan was situated on the small dresser right in front of the mirror. When we walked in the room the window was wide open and the fan was on but the noise from the generator was unbearable, so we had to close the window making it even hotter. Because of the pipes in the wardrobe which were boarded off there was the smallest space for hanging clothes. The bathroom was adequate, but the toilet was right behind the sink making movement very awkward. ROOM 107 should never ever be allocated. I spoke with lots of people in the hotel and no one I spoke to have a fan in their room so obviously the management knew there was a problem with the room. 
What made it worse we were on a coach trip that had been cancelled twice due to covid so after waiting so long we were really looking forward to it and a lady and her friend who I knew had only booked the trip 3 weeks beforehand and were allocated a lovely big front sea view room

Our reception was terrible, having made arrangements to dine later (7:30) when we arrived and had this confirmed by email. Straight off the ferry with our luggage we were ushered into the dining room at 6:15 having not even seen our room! we explained we had arranged to eat later but were told the hotel was under new management - we had to eat immediately. After some raised voices we told the very rude staff we would eat at 7:30 and adjourned to our room.
The room was poor, at the back of the hotel with another building about ten feet from our only window. It smelt terrible and we had asked for a room to accomodate my mobility issues. Had we been given a first, second or third floor room we could have accessed it using the lift. As it was we were allocated room 111 - either upstairs from reception or downstairs from 1st floor as it was between floors.
We filmed the rats from our window and complained. We were told, complacently, that they were from the Chinese take away. Disgusting. There was a lot of noise from a loud industrial extractor fan outside our room which switched off close to midnight. There are also two or three nightclubs in the basements of these building which close at about three in the morning so there is a lot of shouting and revelry in the streets when they empty.
The food was okay but self service. I was thinking it would be brought to the table. Similarly drinks had to be bought at the bar, they were not available at the table. A pretty minimal bar although the prices were comparable with local pub prices. The Hotel itself was four big houses converted so it was a labrynthine warren of doors, stairs and corridors with four separate front doors. Reception was rarely manned. The receptionist also manned the bar two rooms away. When leaving your keys we often just went behind the desk, as did most guests, to put them on their hooks. I said to the manageress that this wasn't secure, anyone could get our keys. She said compacently that it was monitored by CCTV. Untrue or someone could have showed up in reception within a couple of minutes of anyone ringing the bell. Their mantra was "We're very short staffed".
There are four "Sleepwell" Hotels advertsied but I would never risk one again. There are many hotels available in Douglas - I doubt any could be much worse than this one. Mealtimes were strictly regimented. Our slot was 8:00. For a self serve restaurant (the breakfasts were quite good - albeit same each day) this seemed wholly unnecessary - why not just serve breakfast between 7:00 &9:30? Let guests eat when they wished?
I suspect it won't be too long if the Chesterhouse is under new management again very soon, unless they make radical improvements. This is very poor indeed and I doubt whether they would pass a visit from the hotel inspectorate without many changes being required,
