We were lucky enough to have the canoe for ourselves which is the advantage of the low season. It was as magical as royal to be able to watch the sun set and the night fall feeling like we were alone in the world. The canoe is comfortable and warm. The owner is friendly and scheduling. Delicious spices and a fresh stick for breakfast.

A still journey

I stayed here recently for a night and loved it! The room was more spacious than I expected (keep in mind it is a boat - so the room is not huge but has everything you need. The bathroom also functioned very well with a shower that was bigger than I expected based on past experience with boats. Sitting on the deck on the Oise was lovely. The day we arrived was very hot, but here there was quiet and a cool breeze. We received wonderful recommendations from the owner for dinner and she prepares a lovely breakfast (included). This is like a B and B so the owner is not that all the time and if you need to check in early - even to leave your luggage, you should call first to see if something can be arranged. The walk is about 10 minutes from the train station and if you have a car, there is nearby parking. Lastly, we received incredible help getting to our next destination - including a ride to a bus stop to catch a bus we would have never found on our own. This was just a wonderful place to stay.

A wonderful stay - relaxing and fun

We stayed on Christine’s boat.  ‘Bateaux Daphne’ for five nights. We particulary wanted to stay in Auvers sur Oise.  This is the only hotel in the village. 

The location of the boat is ideal and within easy walking distance of all of the Van Gogh sites, several restaurants and a ‘Carrefour City’. The location is very peaceful and there is a very pretty and well tended river path by the mooring. We felt very secure here with a key to the boat and our room.

Christine is a very attentive hostess. She lives nearby and brings breakfast, freshly purchased from the local baker every day. As I am not fond of croissants she brought fruit and ham and cheese too.
As much coffee or tea as you can drink, juices and jams and baguette of course. Christine also drove us to Pointoise station on our last day. Forgot to mention Christine speaks good English.

We had the whole boat to ourselves on three days. There is a little lounge area you can use, as well as the deck. The deck has sun beds and a table and chairs. I have fond memories of eating on the deck. We bought food from the local ‘Carrefour’ as well as wine of course! We could use the kitchenette and the fridge in the boat too. 

The only criticism is the double bed is a little small and against the wall, but this is a boat cabin so to be expected. Plenty of storage: in under bed drawers and a locker outside of the cabin if you need extra storage, hooks on the wall. Everything you need in the cabin but you need to be tidy as it is small. Shower worked well plenty of towels and toiletries too.

If you want to stay in a beautiful French village, love Van Gogh, want a peaceful stay and don’t mind being a little cramped then I would highly recommend a stay on Bateaux Daphne.

Stayed here with my wife and daughter for one night wished it could have been longer. Great room and location. Host was inviting and accommodating. Would highly recommend for something different and a bit adventurous - not your average hotel.

Family memories, tranquil setting

Sleeping in a creek, watching the animals, canoeing down the river from the slopes and then taking your time, the time to live thinking about something else.

Super weekend in Auvers overlooking this majestic river, the Oise

I had booked a room in the cabin a month ago. A few days later the owner calls me and tells me that finally there is only the sailor's cabin available. Why not? It's not the same atmosphere but it's typical and always on the cabin, at the same price. When we arrive the reception is warm and the cabin is very nice. Except for barely a foot in the famous cabin and I even feel a very strong smell of being noticed right away. We tell ourselves that indeed some customers complain from time to time about it but it doesn't feel bad. And there's a discomforting terrace bomb, but let's go back to ages... I stop the cabin. I say the windows are very nice and the cabin is very nice... but I've decided that the cabin is very nice, and the owner of the cabin is very nice.

Smells

My wife and I booked 3 nights accommodation the week before as we were unable to find a more traditional B&B. Our arrival in Auvers was several hours behind schedule but Christine, the owner, was very cheery about the delay and made us most welcome. She owns the boat but lives in the town and appears at whatever time you require breakfast. The keys you are trusted with lock the gate to the gangway, the main door to the accommodation and, of course, your room key. The lack of someone on the spot to sort out any issues is not a problem as Christine is very easy to get hold of by mobile phone and her command of English is far better than our knowledge of French. Anyway, her greeting and first time explanation of the boat and accommodation leaves nothing to be asked about. We had a thorough introduction in our first 5 minutes aboard.

The Bateau Daphne is not suitable for anybody with mobility problems as there is a gangway to negotiate onto the boat and then steps down into the main accommodation. My wife and I are in our 60s and, thankfully, still able to cope with steps and bulkhead doorways that need stepping over.

Once inside the boat one finds an eating/kitchen area where breakfast is served in close proximity to a sitting/relaxation area. Christine leaves the fridge and cupboards stocked with basic necessities such as tea, coffee, fruit juices and local beer so that you can prepare refreshments should you need anything when she is not on board. Breakfast is typically continental with fruit juices, fresh croissants,  fresh bread, jams, and tea or coffee as you wish. Christine buys the bread and croissants from the boulangerie that she passes on the way to the boat so couldn't be any fresher.

The ensuite bedrooms are along a corridor down one side of the boat leading from the dining area and all are about the same size as many a hotel room that we have experienced. One has to accept that the boat's architecture does produce tight corners particularly in the bathrooms but the showers are quite large enough. Beware the hot water. The system employed on board appears to be well capable of producing scalding hot water if you don't use the mixer taps correctly. The beds are about 6 feet long and approximately 5 feet wide. My wife and I had no problems with the comfortably firm beds in spite of my 6 feet frame. We noted that an air circulation fan was in the bedroom but didn't need to use it. Cupboard space is limited in the bedroom to drawers under the bed but there are lockable cupboards available along the corridor close to the individual rooms. 

At the forward end of the bedroom corridor there is small seating and library area for those who have enough time to spare. The main deck has a covered area with sun loungers available for those that might be there during the day.

The boat is moored within walking distance to the town of Auvers. It is on the River Oise which, normally, is a smooth flowing river which doesn't affect the stability of this large ex working boat. The wash from the regular passage of working barges sometimes causes a momentary wobble but they are very quiet and don't, aren't allowed, to use the river at night. 

Car parking is on a driveway within 10 metres of the boat and which serves as access to other residential boats. The driveway is parallel to a public footpath that runs along the river adjacent to the boat. 

Christine provides free access to the internet with a hub on the boat. 

We thoroughly enjoyed our three nights on the Bateau Daphne. It was an unusual and very pleasant and quiet experience. We have no hesitation in recommending it as a convenient and comfortable B&B for the town of Auvers and surrounding area.

Unusual and different

A sober and very comfortable layout, a boat moored in a great environment, just a couple of steps from Auvers. Guaranteed expense and a long trip... especially when you sip a good beer offered by our hostess, on the bridge watching the pennishes in action!

A child's dream, a traveling motionless!

There is no criticism of our stay (two days): the hostess is extremely welcoming, the magical location, the proximity to Auvers is very appreciated, the small but charming cabins, and the outskirts of the peninsula lend themselves to beautiful walks.

Formidable

The Daphne Peninsula, located on the Oise, offers a real moment of absolute and romantic relaxation. You can enjoy the passage of the other canoes and canoes, kayaks... The visit to the village of Auvers on the Oise, on the footsteps of Van Gogh is very interesting, you can really spend a very pleasant day there; the owner of the boat welcomes you very kindly and is very attentive to his guests. To advise all the people you want good.
