We went out with friends and had a great weekend. Our friend's birthday was a success and all the guests were delighted. A genuine, quiet, spacious and clean place. A big thank you also to Nadège who took care of us, a young woman who was available and responsive.

A pleasant stay of two days for about twenty people at the French equestrian championships in Saint Lo: swimming pool, space, nature, calm.

Nice quiet and picturesque place

The castle is beautiful and the managers are really nice and available. The rooms and the setting are splendid. The premises were in very good condition and very clean. Special mention for the greenhouse with the swimming pool, very nice!

Hi, it's a shame to rent a house in this condition. One bulb out of two defective ones. Cruel lack of dishes. Almost clean pool, in an old abandoned greenhouse. Several doors not closing. The ground floor is an old remodeled basement. We came in late August, and there was a strong smell of moisture and moisture. I was cold all night.

Shame on you

We booked the property for a two-day business seminar. We had a very pleasant time! The property is really big, with lots of space and the opportunity to do many activities. The premises are in very good condition and extremely well equipped. impeccable home, the managers are very available and listening. We were 20, and there was still a lot of room left! The whole team was delighted! We recommend warmly!

Business seminar

We were 24 adults for a weekend with friends, we were very welcomed, and the owner was very organized by making available extra beds. The rooms are huge and the property is incredible!

I recently took a party of Normandy Veteran's and their families to stay at Chateau Montmireil so that we could attend the 70th Anniversary Commemorations. It was a disaster from the start.
On first arrival it was evident that the whole property was a little run down. The paint was cracked and peeling on all the buildings, the gardens were overgrown and weeds were growing through the cracked and uneven paths. The property is divided into 3 separate buildings.
The Chateau: 
The front door could not be locked from the inside with the key. Only the bolt at the top of the door secured it.
The light in the downstairs toilet did not work all week.
No handrail on cellar steps.
The dishwasher in kitchen couldn’t take the weight of dinner plates in the bottom basket as one of the wheels was missing. We had to wash up each night.
No wardrobe in the twin bedroom on first floor, only a small dressing table for two people.
On the second floor, the top most bannister or hand rail was insecure and wobbled.
At the top of the staircase in the attic room there was a bed. We could not use this bed as no rail had been put along the side of it and anyone sleeping in it could roll over, or get out of the bed, and go over the edge and fall down the staircase. This caused us a problem with the sleeping arrangements.  In addition there were rips in the carpet which constitute a "trip hazard".  
The Cottage:
The housekeeper showed me around and immediately I realised that access to the Cottage was via steep steps on either side of the Chateau with no hand rails and no lights on them at night, which was a dangerous situation for the veterans. The only other access was by leaving the grounds and walking down the country lane to the large double gates which open onto the gravel courtyard. The distance to walk and with no street lights made this impossible.
Inside the Cottage, the stairs up to the first floor were unsafe. They had no hand rail and were not evenly spaced.
Some of the windows were permanently locked, so we could not air the rooms.
The heater in one of the bedrooms was not properly fixed onto the wall making it unsafe, although the heater did work.
The toilet in the main bathroom was also faulty. 
The bathroom floor became very slippery as there was only one bathmat which did not dry out during the week.
The Pavillon: 
Access to the ground floor was through patio doors. This was not a problem except that the paths leading to these doors were cracked and uneven. The veterans had to be escorted everywhere they went in the grounds because of the uneven surfaces. 
The bathroom on the first floor had loose light switches, which contravenes basic safety rules.  Also part of the window frame was missing. 
No bath mat was available so we had to use a towel which again did not dry out causing the floor to be slippery.
The colour of the tiles on the ground floor caused the step up into the toilet to blend in. One of the ladies fell because she did not see the step. We had to stick coloured tape onto the edge of the step so that it could be seen. 
The attic bedrooms did not have wardrobes and only a small dressing table in the double room. The Velux window in the double room did not have a blind, so we had to use a towel to create a curtain. The door into the double bedroom did not fit in the frame properly and was difficult to close, it also caught on the floor.
The attic bedrooms were obviously being renovated, with unfinished plasterboard walls and bare bulbs hanging on wires which protruded out of pipes which ran along ceilings. This was also on the steps leading down to the ground floor.

Other points
On our last day, the caretaker arrived with approximately 16 other people (presumably members of her family). They used the pool and table tennis area, made use of the gardens and picnic tables and used the boules pitch. One of the ladies in our party how long it would be before she could use the pool and was told “about 15 minutes”. The caretaker also entered the Chateau to take glasses outside for the family to use. Some of her family were drinking beer in the pool house and left the empty bottles there. (This is strictly forbidden in the Terms & Conditions. Also a dirty nappy was placed in one of the bins in the pool house. 
The WiFi was not working from the first day (Tuesday). Someone came out to fix it on Friday. It could not be fixed, he took the Hub away with him and did not return. The access to WiFi was important to a few of our party. 
Most of the bedrooms did not have keys, so the only security was the front doors.
Some of the rooms had light bulbs that did not work either in the main lights or in the bedside lights. We had to ask for these to be replaced.
A number of bedrooms did not have wardrobes.
There was a leaking pipe outside the door of the Games Room, causing the carpet to be wet.

I was bringing a group of Normandy Veterans, especially for the purpose of attending the commemorations of the week of D Day 1944, so it goes without saying that they were all either approaching 90 or over 90 years of age. During our visit to Normandy a number of the Veterans needed wheelchair assistance during the day and all were often very tired after a day’s activities (e.g. attending official ceremonies) therefore easy access to their respective accommodation was paramount in order to retire to their rooms to relax and recover before the evening meal. Ground floor accommodation was of major importance, so the steps and uneven paths caused them great problems.
I sent many e-mails to the owner about the bedrooms and there location and I made it very clear as to why I needed ground floor access. i.e. Age, lack of mobility, numbers traveling etc. Nothing was mentioned about the steep steps or lack of handrails. 
I doubt if I am going to get any suitable outcome from this complaint, but I wanted other people who are thinking of staying there - especially with older people - to be aware of the problems.
Its a real shame. The place could be stunning with a little bit of TLC. It is set in its own grounds, in a quiet location, at the edge of a lovely village.

D-Day Holiday Disaster

We stayed here at the end of October, the main chateau is absolutely charming and tastefully de corated and furnished to keep the character of this historic building alive. There are facilities for everyone, an indoor heated pool, games room and gardens. We do not have kids but I am sure that it would provide  a safe and entertained. 
The town/village of Canisy is a short pleasant walk away and has all the shops you need. The historic city of St Lo is only a short drive away and has great restaurant and brasseries for lunch and dinner at surprisingly low prices. For the military historian it is fantastic since there are so many d day sites within 30 minutes drive.
We found the owners very helpful and responsive.
We would certainly go back if we are in the area.

Great Chateau, Fantastic facilities

We choose Montmireil for it's size and location - we were a large group with several small children and so both were important to us. We were delighted to discover that the chateau offered many additional benefits to these. The house is old and beautiful. the layout is unusual and a little discussion was required to confirm the best arrangement for our multi family group. On the plus side the rooms were all charming, some extremely large, there are many bathrooms (although they couldn't be described as ensuite this wasn't a problem ), the kitchen is large and the dining room fantatsic for big family meals. There is the added bonus of a playroom which our kids really loved, the snooker room was like a boys club every night and the pool is great with the table tennis area being very popular with everyone. The gardens are also fantatsic and really well kept and well used by us. I'd say this was a fantastic location for any family holiday as there is so much for everyone to do no matter whatthe weather. The owners we found to be friendly and very helpful. It is possible to arrange for in house catering which is worthwhile, the food was lovely and leftovers served us well into the week(i'd recommend the 26 euro menu) although it should be noted that the food is not cooked for you but delivered ready to put in the oven - a surprize at first but actually quite good fun.
There are a lot of ornaments around that we found difficult to protect from our toddlers and this did spoil our enjoyment a bit for a family orientated location.  At times the owners were a little pedantic about rules but ultimately very helpful and friendly.
We enjoyed our stay greatly and will certainly return.

A wonderful house, with great facilities and real charm

We are a family of middle class professionals, who stayed here for our parent’s fortieth anniversary. 
Unfortunately the owners are child unfriendly, have no feeling for privacy, and run the place like an army regiment. We felt we were constantly treated with complete mistrust and contempt.
There are so many rules and regulations [scattered throughout the house and in every room on unsightly notices] that it reminded my father of his army barracks. [in 1947]. The owners are constantly around the house invading personal space [living on site].
The car park is a 150 meters walk around the owner’s house, as he states that fire regulations preclude parking in front of the house.
They would not return my deposit cheque after a close inspection [that they wanted to start at 9 am and lasted 40 min.], although there were no damages.
Of note: The cookers were not in full working order to start of with, the kitchen being poorly equipped with low quality cutlery/crockery and pots/pans. All but one showers with meagre water supply [not en suite as promoted on their website] and the two wood burning stoves prohibited from use.
I could mention much more but we are trying not let it spoil the memory of our holiday.
