Old majestic castle - large very comfortable room furnished with exquisite and supernatural taste, bathroom in the old but very pleasant and spacious. As for breakfast a real pleasant delight. The manager is very concerned about our comfort at all levels, friendly to wish! place to recommend in a green and charming environment of another time, that of a past where the weather flowed peacefully. What a wonderful step

Fabrice is available, useful, at the ears. Life at the castle is confirmed by the presence of a very kind little ghost. Do not hesitate to give him a little visit.

I recommend the location, the setting, cheap lunch, spacious room 102 with independent toilets and db, no 'ghost' Tres calm... thanks to the director.

Christmas in the Family

A charming castle. A very large family room with very good bedding. Very well heated. A very friendly hotel and with little care for us and our children: - he moved us to a family room tailored for us and our three children - we were able to store our bikes in a depot. - he advised us to tour and local activities. A very rich and delicious lunch (including the wineries and the bread baker next door), at a price that defies all competition!

Family stay

This is the perfect place to spend a friendly time. Very well maintained, excellent bed, clean room, excellent breakfast and quiet at will. I recommend this charming establishment two steps from the Charente that flow peacefully. Easy to access.

It's a beautiful place.

A great welcome by Caroline, the housekeeper, who had bought in soya products for one of our party who was lactose intolerant.   Throughout our stay she kept us supplied with bottled water, it was very hot during our visit.
The outside of the 'chateau' was imposing from the road but coming closer needed a great deal of care and attention.   The 'terrace' was covered in weeds, the entrance was memorable by the hose reel and broken pots close to the front door.   The provided table, chairs and umbrella were of very poor quality.
Rooms were a good size but sparsely furnished with a mix of styles of furniture, our room included lighting above the bed which was not wired up and one bedside lamp which could not be reached from the bed.   The floor of our shower was very slippery when wet.  One room was for disabled persons, our disabled friend fell heavily in the shower causing multiple bruising. This is not a disabled friendly room, much greater attention to detail is needed. The windows to this room could not be left open at night as they opened onto the terrace, a big problem in hot weather.
Breakfast was very poor, coffee was made on request, tea had to be made by ourselves, the kettle, water and tea bags were pointed out to us.   Supermarket bread, croissants and small pastries were provided.   Cereals were provided but aimed strictly at children.
The big surprise was that our rooms were NOT MADE UP during the day meaning that returning in the evening we had to make our beds, sort our towels etc.  We have never been to any grade of accommodation where this has happened in the past.
On our first night we were the only persons in the 'chateau'.  We were told the owner came for a short time the next day but was 'very busy' - not on looking after his property however.   For 90 Euro per night this is very poor value for money.
The whole place needs a great deal of TLC which could be achieved quickly and at only moderate cost.
If you have a choice do not stay here!

We stayed at this hotel on the night of August 24, 2015, we booked 20 minutes before arriving at the place via the booking application, there were no reviews, but given the time we talked, we booked then you'll see. When we arrived the impression was not good, or the place appears to be a little outdoorside, we played, there was no one there, doubts were starting to rise, we decided to call the number that booking wrote in the booking, a lady who spoke a little English, like the rest of us, within 5 minutes she arrived, an entrance we changed our mind, the reception is presented, it is in a large staircase with a decent 201 room.

Appearances Are Deceptive

The worst hotel I ever stayed. Dirty, with a total lack of hygiene. Furniture broken or in tatters. When I was going to do the check out they had already charged the bill in the credit card that I used to book the room. They didn't give me the chance to pay it in cash or in another account. Very dissapointed. I really don't understand how this hotel pass the sanitary controls.

The worst hotel I ever stayed

It's very difficult to know where to start. We booked via the internet with Booking.com, from a hotel further north. Over night there was a terrific electric storm which made it difficult to fully check what previous people had said about their stay, and to get good instructions as to where it was located.

We used our sat nav to locate the 'hotel' and it proved not to be on the main N road, but of the back road which ran parallel to the main road. When booking we were led to believe it was a true hotel in the real sense and this proved to be incorrect. 

When we eventually found the place, it did look impressive, but those impressions very quickly disappeared. The establishment seemed to be run by a husband and wife team. The husband spoke a very little English, whilst his wife even less. 

The only similarity to a hotel was the 'reception area' which did give an official feeling. In the hall was a drinks machine, but when I purchase a bottle of cold water, I discovered that the cabinet wasn't refrigerated at all? We were shown to room 102, which was on the 1st floor, and had two single beds on a large tiled floored room, with a separate toilet and bathroom, which included a wash hand basin, shower and bath. The towels were very thin, and the second day they were left in the room. There was a free wi fi, but you had to go to the 1ST FLOOR lounge, where the hub was located.

We asked where we could eat, and were told that they didn't do meals, and breakfast ended as being extremely basic, and very poor value. We did go back to Booking.com and complained, but this got us no where, and an unpleasant atmosphere continued for the remainder of our stay.

We were given the given details of a fairly local restaurant, and they booked on our behalf, sadly we felt this was for their gain and not ours? We found quite a pleasant restaurant much closer to the chateau, and after having had a very nice meal, we took back some cards and leaflets to help other clients, but when we came down for breakfast the next morning they had all been removed and were nowhere to be seen.

In retrospect, we do not consider this is a hotel at all, and we should have left without staying. On the third night we were joined by occupants in two further rooms, and this time the breakfast included a packet of process cheese roundalls, and one child took most of them for her and her brother. We never saw anyone other than the two people (husband and wife), no cleaners, waiters. We felt cheated and left after paying a bill that simply did not reflect the lack of service we received. Would we stay their again, what do you think!

Not at all what we expected.

Family of 5 (teenage children):We slept in hotel Chateau Sainte Marie on our way to the south of France. Approx. 15min drive from the motorway in the middle of sunflower fields.
Small family hotel run by a French/German couple.Very clean.
Beautiful romantic rooms with classic interior. We had 2 rooms (2+3 beds).The children loved it.
Nice breakfast restaurant.
For dinner we drove 5min to a nice restaurant by the river. Table was reserved for us by the hotel. Good and affordable food.
Good price/quality. Advisable for 1 or more nights. For couples and families.
