We wanted to eat at Le Lion Verd on 09.08.2023. The reception was friendly and we were immediately assigned a table. But then it started: the ordered water for the meal was only forgotten, after a reminder came a dirty jar of lukewarm water then after a complaint and long waiting time a jar of cold water. After an hour and a half we got a snack from the menu. There were 3 servings occupied and the place was not even half occupied. Frenchmen, ordered, ate and went back to pay. We had to wait. Our main meal was still not served despite a reminder at a service after 1 1/2 hours. So we went. Then we asked ourselves if our nationality was not desired.

Bullying in ordering food

We went to lunch, we were greeted graciously by a smiling, polite, very nice team. We had lunch on the outdoor terrace, near the water. We took a formula, homemade cuisine with quality and delicious products. The crustacean fish sauce and its stuffed potatoes, a delight. We passed by the restaurant room which is carefully decorated and exemplary cleanliness like the establishment I think.

A team to listen to you, and a kitchen to match them.

The hotel is easy to find and has plenty of parking to the front.  Through traffic might be noisy so perhaps a room to the rear might be quieter.
Room was basic, but fine.
Dinner in the restaurant was very disappointing and you could consider other options.
I doubt we will return

Nice village location, eat elsewhere

The hotel is reborn with its new owner: friendly reception, dynamic and attentive staff. Lunch on the terrace by the Orne. Simple and very quiet rooms. Ideally located in the centre of the village, off the road. Large restaurant room.

A nice stop in the Norman Switzerland

The service and the kindness of the staff who made my parents (Aged 90)so comfortable and welcome meant so much to me. 
The cleanliness, location and comfort were outstanding. The staff made sure my parents had everything they needed. Nothing was too much trouble.
They have a lift and a room designed for people with limited mobility. A large wet room.

A very happy holiday.

After being ripped from our sleep at 04:45 in our airless, smelly ferry cabin we set off from Caen (Ouistreham) ferry port destined for mid-France.  We had to circumnavigate the city of Caen to get out onto the rural roads that we chose for our southbound route.  We avoid motorways because we want to see France and, as this was a touring holiday, the complete journey, including the leg from the port to our first overnight stay, is very much part of the holiday.

So, that it was that we happened upon Putanges-Pont-Ècrepin on the River Orne some 60 km and a good 90 minutes into our journey.  We were behind a slow-moving farm vehicle and saw the turning for the town centre: so, we took a chance.  It was a little before 08:15 local time (07:15 BST) and we were very needy for coffee and a pastry to keep us going until lunch.  We looked at a local boulangerie but although that looked good for bread and pastries there was no coffee.  We saw Le Lion Verd and made enquiries about coffee in basic French (it’s the best we have) only to then realise that the duty manager was English.

We enjoyed a very rich and full flavoured but not bitter coffee sat in the tasteful reception area seated in comfortable lounge style furniture.  I enquired if we could order a pastry and I was invited to partake in breakfast as the restaurant was about to open soon.  This was perfect for us and within 15 minutes we were sat in a lovely, light, bright and airy restaurant.  I chose the cold meats and crusty bread from the well varied buffet and couldn’t resist the offering of a freshly cooked mushroom omelette (I could also have had cheese and/or ham).  My partner had a croissant and preserves and we both had a second cup of coffee.  

The meal was all very well produced, tasty and very welcome.  Service was excellent and at a total of 18€ it was inexpensive compared to other breakfasts experienced in our trips to France.

Putanges-Pont-Ècrepin is a very pretty town in parts especially by the side of the river and this hotel is very attractive and well seated just off a little square by the side of the river.

Petit déjeuner was our first big break

We've eaten here a few times and never been disappointed. The food, very good, the whole place is spotlessly clean, friendly English speaking staff and a good selection of dishes on the menu, what more could you want.

A Very Nice Place to Eat.

We recently had a mini break and stopped this Hotel for three nights.
All rooms freshly decorated and fitted with new beds and linen.
We opted for half board and were not disappointed.
English owned with some of the staff speaking English.
Breakfast plentiful evening meals also very good, with restaurant catering for other functions.
Hotel located right in the centre of the village, with the village car park in front.
We travelled by motorcycle and able to park around the back in a secure yard.
Reasonably priced stay made to feel very welcome.

Lovely Hotel

We recently stayed here visiting some friends who had moved locally. Very clean and comfortable rooms with the hotel having a recent renovation. Hosts were excellent. Off the normal tourist trail but a very pretty village on the river and well worth a visit. 

Great hotel

Hotel le Lion Verd was the setting for my grandad’s 80th birthday celebration and proved to be absolutely perfect for it. The rooms appeared to be recently refurbished and were well stocked with all hotel essentials! The hotel has a beautiful verandah area by the river for pre dinner drinks; the food was also delicious and lots of choice! All in all, a well run hotel in a picturesque location.
