Madame, Monsieur, before making such an advertisement for a castle to rent inquire about the capacity and permits, NO SECURITY etc etc Know that the castle of Yaucourt Bussus is under a municipal arrest since February 2019

Prohibition of rental Municipal decree

Superb place - can’t recommend it enough. Firstly they gave us a bigger room/bed because my boyfriend is 6’8. Secondly the breakfast is delicious - home made bread, cake, croissants & jam. Freshly squeezed OJ & strong coffee. Boyfriend had thick, rich hot chocolate. People on here complaining that €10 is a rip off clearly have no taste buds & would spend double that at McDonalds. The breakfast was fresh, homemade and so filling. The housekeeper joined us and was delightful - nobody spoke the other’s language but somehow we had a long conversation. She was brilliant & so kind. The room we stayed in was almost regal & looked onto the lawn with horses nearby - it’s really beautiful. The chateau is a bit run down in parts but it’s 14th Century! It’s got bags of character and charm. 

Don’t stay in a charmless hotel chain, stay here and have a memorable time!

Memorable, unique, bonkers

We booked this hotel weeks ago. When we arrived at the gates at 8pm after 7 hours on the autoroute, the place was deserted and locked up. A villager helped us to locate the owner who eventually arrived in a car from somewhere else with some cock an bull story about having informed us that the booking was cancelled - three hours before our arrival. I don’t know about you but I don’t check my emails while I’m driving. The owner was rude, talking over me and leaning on my car door so I couldn’t close it, even though I asked him to move his arm three times, as I ididn’t want to continue the conversation. He claimed they were overbooked. There was no one there! We drove to the next village, thinking we might end up sleeping n the car with our dog. A lovely restaurant owner phoned a B&B n the next village and we were able to have a meal and go there at 10 pm. The house was called La Nicoulette in Gapennes. The owner was super- helpful and had prepared a room in record time. Quiet, secluded, beautifully decorated and a wonderful breakfast (review coming up). Complained to Booking.com about our treatment at the chateau - agreed compensation, paying difference in price. Will also claim for long phone calls. Never had such a horrible experience with Booking.com property before.

Dreadful service

Ok, where to start - this is a quirky B&B with restrictive access. We turned up after a 5hr drive from the Vendee and had to wait until 6pm for a charming lady to arrive at the gates to let us in, only open from 6-7.30pm.

You are given a code to come and go thereafter. The facilities have seen better days but the rooms are large and comfortable. The lady speaks no English but we were able to communicate, just about.

Breakfast was offered at an extra €10 each which is overpriced. It is more flexible on time range.

In all, its a quirky destination with not much on offer, in need of a bit of TLC and is ok for a 1 night stay. Value for money? No

Midweek stopover

We stayed here (4 people + dog) in 2 large rooms; great views and very high ceilings.  The house is lovely and set back from the road (on the right if you are coming from Abbeyville).  We had a very nice breakfast and chat with the housekeeper who was very friendly and she had got us fresh baguettes/croissants etc that morning. She also had a Jack Russel dog.  We went out to dinner at St Riquier about 4 km away which is well worth a trip: abbey and a couple of restaurants/ cafes and a bank. 

An Interesting stay

Beautiful castle with very pleasant exteriors Very shallow clean rooms it would be worth a real cleanup (dust on the furniture, dirty and dusty floor)no maintenance Defective furniture, TV from the 70s It feels good that guest rooms are taken less seriously than ceremonies, weddings or photo shoot that relate more to the owner Tired and very talkative governess the castle is not worth greeting its guests proper and quality lunch This stay has disappointed me we are dreaming of sleeping in a castle I don't talk about spiders and cracks this is part of the charm of a castle and it is difficult to keep a castle clean but calmly guaranteed!

Chateau renovated

Despite our confirmed reservation made on Booking.com, the chateau was locked tight, with no lights on. No one answered either of the two phone numbers posted on the gate.  The only signs of life in this remote location was a black cat crossing on a fence across the street and bats.  Unbelievable. Thank goodness we had phones that directed us to a budget hotel 15 minutes away.  The next day, we drove by and the caretaker (who spoke to us through the locked gate) told us she had no record of a reservation. Certainly not the special weekend we had planned.  France is filled with marvelous places to stay, I suggest you stay in one of them rather than risk reliving our dreadful experience.

If you are looking for a hostel that offers current comfort, a fully furnished room, and a robot commercial reception, go your way. On the other hand, if you are looking for a renovated castle in its pre-war juices and a simple but authentic reception, this hostel is a must-have. For our part, we have greatly enjoyed this time travel in the company of the housekeeper.

A Real Place and Ruler

It's a very beautiful house, the castle is a very beautiful one. As you would expect in this type of housing, there are spiders, the grinding parquet and the scratching paint and cracks. However, the bed is of quality, we slept very well. The governess is very friendly and fickle. We are really well received but in a very amateur atmosphere. Very good breakfast with regional products. Go there knowing that you will be really welcomed as at home.
