By far the worst dump I've ever stayed in. The inner patio was literally a dumpster, rooms and showers dirty. Almost never anyone at reception. The person in charge at reception when I was there, if you can even call him that, was a hateful, bitter old man who seemed to try real hard to be the most unfriendly and hostile he could possibly be to guests. Services that were advertised (like the "lounge") either did not exist or were converted into dorms. WiFi not even worth mentioning.
I'm glad this place has been wiped off the face of the earth, never to dupe unsuspecting travelers again.

My daughter and her friend had booked a Sunday-to-Monday night at the end of the Wacken Metal Festival in this establishment before returning to Switzerland. Not only was the booking not recorded (despite the confirmed booking and being presented at the reception), but they were thrown out by the Polish receptionist who made racist remarks to my daughter's friend.

We stayed at G1 Hostel as it was one of the cheapest options for Hamburg, we had one of the private rooms. Well, you get what you pay for!

Reception didn't open until 10am, so we had to wait around longer so we could drop off our bags (fine, but annoying). Our room (and maybe half of them) had a frosted window facing a disgusting mound of garbage and trash in the carpark. It was gross and meant we had so many flies in our room during our stay. One of the ceiling lights were out, and the room wasn't 100% clean. 

As well, when we booked we were promised a guest lounge, and when I tried to go in - there was a guest staying in it?! Everything was pretty shoddy, although I didn't mind the location as much. It was handy to get to the main stations. 

Only minimal bathrooms which were often in use. Wi-Fi was exceedingly poor. It was also decent closer to the garbage mound... The room was extremely hot with no fan or aircon, the G1 staff didn't speak much English so they weren't accommodating either.

The entrance has no security whatsoever (it's shared with an apartment block) so we didn't feel safe and actually, some random guy (maybe drunk) tried to get into our room when one of went to the bathroom. Not impressed at all.

A bit of literal dumping ground

I stayed here with a couple of friends in early May, whole process was straight forward and we couldn't complain for the price we paid. The hostel is in an okay location, not far from Berliner Tor station which takes you into the centre of Hamburg. Rooms were clean and staff were professional. At the rates they charge you are getting what you pay for.

Not in the center, actually. Under our room there was a nightclub so the night was quite noisy. Security was very weak: at night the entrance doors are not closed so when we woke up (6am) we found outside our room strange men to the structure and not the beautiful faces who were sitting on the floor and using the bathrooms. Although they were men I found the women's bathroom in pitiful condition. I don't want to exaggerate but to me and my companion those people scared us because we had to lock ourselves in the room because we had to leave the accommodation with all our belongings to go to get the train. After a good half hour the guard came out who took them away (we simply moved the entrance). We were well done and we went out early. Pty and cleaned up in the room by day/night but we didn't know what we were doing.
