My Husband and I stayed for three nights at the Gasthof Kreuz Post in authentic picture post card Staufen.  Our hosts the Zahn family, really know the ins and outs of the hotel business. Our unique room, one of 12 in this cozy hotel was filled with all of the necessities -  relaxing chair, hair drier, coffee tea making, TV, roomy and a restful, comfortable bed.
The morning coffee with breakfast is fresh brewed to your specifications and the buffet leaves you wanting for nothing.  Our dinners were outstanding!!  Fresh white asparagus with fresh broiled fish is to die for and the fish soup is devine.  Appetizers are inspired and as tasty as they look.
We had such a good visit to Gasthof Kreuz Post in Staufen and the Black forest  area that it will stay in our favorite memories forever.

Fabulous small family style Hotel in beautiful Staufen

The menu is very good and seasonal. The various soups were delicious, fresh and hot. Our hunger was not so great, yet the menu is so well stocked that even the little hunger has something to offer. The service was always present and attentive. Nice, there is always something to look at.

Good position

We have been visiting the establishment for years. The setting is warm, despite a local decoration giving in green. The interest of the house is to be located in the center of the city of Faust which perished in the nearby hotel Zum Löwen during an explosion due to an alchemical experiment. Goethe was inspired by it. The dishes are of quality. Local wines to discover. I recommend the entrance of the assortment of red tuna, worthy of a great gastronomy.

Nice house, well located.

This is the third time we have stayed at this hotel.   It is tastefully decorated in what I would call "German/French provincial".  The rooms are comfortable and tastefully decorated.  The restaurant cuisine is excellent as is the breakfast.   I would highly recommend this charming hotel.  Book early in the vacation season as this is a very small hotel.

Charming small hotel

We were on the road, but we felt so comfortable that we had one more night to hang out. (Of course, every trip is worth a trip). Our room was very quiet, well equipped and generously furnished. We slept very well and had a very good, varied breakfast in the morning. In the evening we ate at the restaurant and ate very well. The menu choice was seductive and the food served exceeded our expectations. You could also choose just one dish - full flexibility. The wine recommendation was very well-built. Although it was crowded, the service was convenient and very attentive (both at our class and at other restaurants and at the GHS, and even at the restaurants - in my opinion, special recommendations for the quality of the restaurant were always rejected - even in the best of my eyes).

Eat Well and Sleep Well

Kreuz Post has a perfect location within a block of big, and free, parking areas along the river, and sitting on the main street in town, only a block from the market square, plus across the street from Decker, a top cafe and chocolatier in Staufen.  The hotel itself has bit of a Laura-Ashley-look in its rooms.  The modern bathrooms have lovely wall tiles..This is Germany, so every detail is taken care of and the rooms are immaculate.  We had lovely fall weather at our visit and we were quite comfortable.  A sizable and delicious buffet breakfast was included.  This is a top choice in Staufen.

Charming Hotel in Medieval Town

I rarely write reviews and only for those places which have provided a truly special experience.  Gasthof Kreuz-Post in Staufen does so.  I recently stayed at this hotel with my older parents, sister and young adult daughter.

While there are many wonderful things to say about Gasthof Kreuz-Post, I will start by saying that my daughter accidentally left a valuable and sentimental watch in the room when we left.  We only discovered this when the hotel contacted us (rather than the other way around)!  They shipped the watch back to us in the U.S. free of charge.  Never in all of my years of travel have I had an experience like this (and I have lost forever more than my fair share of things at hotels, including some very fancy ones).

Beyond this extraordinary experience, the rooms were comfortable and elegantly furnished, with plenty of room and nice bathroom fixtures.  The beds were comfortable as well.  The hotel is very conveniently located right in the heart of the charming village of Staufen, which is wonderful in and of itself and also a great starting point for exploring Freiburg and the Black Forest.  One warning to American visitors -- like many other hotels in Europe, this one does not have air conditioning, but we were comfortable even on hot days by keeping the shades closed etc.

The hotel restaurant is also wonderful.  Decorated in a cosy, yet not hokey, local style, it also has a lovely outdoor seating area directly on Staufen's main pedestrian square.  The food is fresh and beautifully prepared and the menu offers a wider range of, and lighter, dishes than can be found in many German restaurants.  The Dover sole was so delicious that my father had it for both lunch and dinner!

My highest recommendation goes to Gasthof Kreuk-Post and the village of Staufen.

Excellent Hotel in a Charming Village

Lovely, very loving restaurant. Food spicy! Great loving hosts!!! 100% feel good. The rooms are very clean! Breakfast leaves no wishes open! Always happy to come back!

Great hotel great restaurant wonderful host

This hotel is particularly impressive because of its location in the centre of Staufen and its good kitchen. The rooms are furnished appropriately, the bathrooms have only a shower and the toilet is open in the bathroom! The service is unattended, so we had to carry our luggage ourselves from the reception to the plant on the second floor. Breakfast without positive surprises but neatly

Good location, reasonable rooms

Very fine food in a cozy atmosphere in stylishly decorated rooms. Excellent wines and snacks of regional production, as well as fine food that almost satisfies every wish.
