If you expect a fancy place to stay - that's not your place. It's very simple, typical Japanese house, with matts on the floor and the traditional sleeping. The owners speak only Japanese, so if you don't know this language, stay away.
Shared toilets and showers - there's a problem if there are too many people taking showers at once. No bad smell, but rather small toilets. Thin walls. Heater in our room saved our lives when we got soaked wet.

Budget place to stay - if you speak Japanese

House Yamada may be found by taking Tram # 2, a short walk from Hakodate Station, in a northerly direction and getting off at the fourth stop (Horachio Station). Walk North and turn right at the second traffic light, continue past another traffic light, and House Yamada is the 6th building on your right. The road ends at the sea wall, and you should be able to hear the waves. It is budget accommodation, that would probably be preferred by a backpacker or a local.

On entering the property, shoes will have to be removed in the entrance area and placed in a cubicle. There are slippers available on the rack. Check in is to the left of the entrance area. Most of the rooms are upstairs, and are simply furnished, with a fan and small table. The traditional Japanese mats (futon) are on the floor, and this is a good experience for first time travellers to Japan.

The toilet and washrooms are downstairs at the end of the corridor, and there are shared bathrooms (separate for male and female). The hotel has wifi, and our room was at the front upstairs, so we were able to hear the waves on the sea wall throughout the night. The property is walking distance to Hakodate Park and quite a few shrines and temples nearby. We chose this property, as we wanted to visit the shrines, and there is no public transportation to them.The only negative that we experienced was the long wait to get a shower in the morning.

Bath room and toilet are not enough, toilet s also bad smell. The owner don't allow us to cook which I can understand but also don't allow us to use bolw in the kitchen for instant noodle (even they provide hot water and microwave machine). 
The floor is wood floor, when someone is walking it's so noisy and the clock is belling every hour.
I really love Hakodate but to stay in this house is a bad experience that I have in Japan.

Really Bad Guess House that you can find in Japan

In this house, there are only 2 toilets and also bad smell. In addition, there is smoking smell at the living room at the first floor. Also, this house has free-WIFI but it is not working well. When we walk or step on the floor, there are so loud.
