This is definitely not a ryokan. We paid £105 for a basic youth hostel, with a very old, shabby room. Pics attached. Btw you also have to lay out your own futon and duvet, and tuck in all the sheets etc. Zero service, and zero staff after 7pm. Only two outdoor baths, which were very small, but only one party could use it per time so there was a queue for the keys! Lastly, I didn't think I'd ever say this about Japan but the male toilets were dirty, smelly, and damp, with wet floors. The stairs and reception were carpeted but mouldy and dirty. This place was an absolute disgrace and not a ryokan. The youth hostel we stayed in the night before (Deer Park Inn, Nara) was way cleaner!

for the onsen experience. that's hot spring for the uninitiated.it's a little bit out of the way, but that's part of its charm. the high occupancy rate speaks volumes of its attraction.  traditional setting but with modern amenities. helpful staff.

This place has beautiful traditional rooms with beds on the floor an tatami flooring.

You can enjoy the private onsen in the property which is especially handy for people with tattoos as tsttoos are not allowed in public onsen.
They provide kimonos/robes for entering the onsen. 

It is conveniently located mear meters away from train/bus station.

However, check in is strictly until 3 pm and if you get there early you won't find anyone at reception.

The room is very good with complimentary welcome tea.

The whole place smells like old, musty carpet and the private onsen is mouldy all over the ceiling and walls.
The water is crystal clear, though and enjoyable if you're not bothered by the mould around. You don't ever touch, so I was ok with it.
Also, the onsen is available 24h.

I didn't get the meal option when booking but judging by other reviews, dinner and breakfast are unbelievable.
There is a convenience store next door with a few snack options, sandwiches and instant ramen. 

Overall, it's ok fot a short stay and it's one of the cheapest ryokans in the area. 

Traditional but a bit run down

The owner clearly works with different standards for different clients. Although this was the most expensive hotel we booked during our entire trip to Japan, it was the worst in accomodation and hygiëne. When we asked about dinner or breakfast, we were told that the cook was resting (we stayed for 2 days). We could get breakfast from the shop around the corner... Meanwhile other guests were given breakfasts and dinners in there room. Onsens was dirty and moldy. Carpets were stained. Room smelled horrid and the whole hotel had an 80's feel to it. We stayed in other ryokans that were 100years old, but somehow this felt like it was really from a different age. 

Shabby room and no dinner or breakfast

We just spent two nights in this place outside of time as a family. The reception is very carefully and in English. The rooms are just as we imagined: as in the movies. Our little red slippers are well laid out in front of the doors... The place is very quiet, in the village and two steps from the train station (super practical). This is what we were looking for. This establishment does not have chairs... it is good. Tourists looking for western comfort are in the big hotels. Absolute tranquility. Little advice: don't hesitate to dine there at night and enjoy the outdoor baths, a treat. Onsen, it's life!

A vintage hotel with charming reception

Reading the past reviews I've noticed they've commented on this Ryokan to be out of date and needs a renovation. I believe otherwise, this was as traditional as you could get for a very good price and exceeded my expectations! Staff was absolutely lovely and the food tasted like there was alot of love and effort put into it, and everything tasted amazing!  An absuloute MUST to book breakfast and dinner!!

Cosy, traditional & yummy

A bit of uphill walk from Ohiradai station - something to consider when you have heavy luggage. Really tired building. No lifts, so you have to haul your luggage to the 2nd floor. Indoor onsens have moldy ceilings. WiFi is hopelessly useless and drops our often. You can pay via Paypal!

Traditional Ryokan/Onsen that has seen better days

Old everything. Furniture, beddings, sinks. 

Smell musty and dank.

Only upside - onsen and so close to Ohiradai Station, which gives you access to the Hakone Ropeway, Cable car, connectivity to Hakone Yumoto Station etc.

Also, if you take the Hakone Tozan Bus H, don’t sleep if you want to stop at Ohiradai station because its a long way off from the next stop

Basic accomodation.

行ってみると趣があり、外国人の方に受けそうな作りでした。
特にお食事は本当に美味しかったです！
お風呂も昔ながらの温泉を貸切で楽しめました！
他のサイトのレビューは少し悪意的なものを感じます。

もっと外国人向けにPRに力をいれるといいかなと思います
ので是非頑張っていただきたいと思います。

Other customer review was so bad so I was anxious however the structure was artistic then their cuisine was really nice.
You can enjoy Hot spring with your Family or lover.
Maybe other reviews are pinpricks.
