I stayed at the Dormy Inn for 3 nights during the rugby World Cup. First let me state that there is very little to do in Kakegawa apart from visiting the castle, so if you are heading here as a tourist there are probably better places to stay.

Back to the hotel !  I arrived a little early (around 12) and my room was not available , so I had to leave my bags in reception and wait until around 3pm to get my key. There was no issue with the language barrier. 

The hotel is not far from the station with a 10 minute walk along the main road getting you there. The room itself was average size for Japan, but the outlook from the window was pretty bleak onto a back alley. However, it was clean and comfortable there were no issues with the exception of the pillows which were rock hard. All amenities were available in the room although the sink being in the bedroom rather than the shower area was a little strange. The Wi-fi was perfect, but dont look for any English language station on the TV as there was none. 

In terms of restaurant, there is one for breakfast with a reasonable selection of both Western and Japanese food. I never saw it open during the day or evening. However, as a bonus it does open up around 9.30 in the evening with free ramen noodles for the hungry. Coffee is always available on demand in the foyer which is another good point.  

On top of the hotel is a typical Japanese thermal bath...great for the aches after a busy day !

All in all a good hotel for the price.....

Perfect for a couple of days stay (except the pillow !!)

I spent two nights there. Compared with other hotels in Tokyo this is a nice place to stay. But make sure you have a not so hard pillow. Mine was more like a futon mattress and I had to ask for a new one. The onsen is decent with typical long opening hours. 

Good hotel in Kakegawa 

The Dormy Inn looks to be very new still. The room is not large at all but very comfortable. The odd number rooms has a view of the Kakegawa Castle. Late night noodles, (9:30 PM) are offered free of charge and it's a nice little snack before shutting down for the evening. They have a hot spring on the 13th floor that is communal bath and separate for men and women. It's pretty central to everything and a short walk to the restaurants in the area and to the castle. It's about a 700 Yen by cab or a bit of a longer walk. There are a lot of English signage and directions as well at this hotel.

Very comfortable

If you have the opportunity to visit the pleasant and quiet city of Kakegawa, this hotel is a good option, the rooms are small but have everything you need, breakfast is good even for foreigners, and it is a 10-minute walk to Kakegawa Castle, and close to several restaurants, you can also walk to the train station as in 10 minutes.

A good hotel option in Kakegawa

This is the first time I have visited this hotel, but I am satisfied.The rooms are small, but comfortable enough to rest.The watering area is wide enough.The hotel offers breakfast, with a wide variety of options and very good taste; at night it offers courtesy noodles.

Great hotel

We arrived to our room on the 12th floor just in time for a beautiful sunset over the city and direct view of Kakegawa Castle. A little walk from the Kakegawa station (exit north side) and a short walk to the castle. Take advantage of the onsen on the top floor. We had never been to one before and this was a great introduction and experience. Essentially, it's like a Western spa with a lovely indoor hot bath, an outdoor hot bath, a (cold) plunge pool and a dry sauna. The men and women are separated. The rooms are efficiently Japanese, but everything is of good quality, including Shiseido shampoo, conditioner, face wash and body wash.  Also, late evening noodles were fun with a young, English speaking guy downstairs. Overall, a wonderful stay at Dormy Inn and highly recommend it. 

A block away is a corridor of tiny restaurants and bars, called Honjin-domi. Really cool to check out. We went to the end to a tiny shop, RiQ, for black sesame ramen and white sesame ramen. Delicious.   Also, across the road from the castle is a shop where you can experience wearing samarai armour, walk around in it and get photos - my husband had a blast doing that.

stayed at dozens of Dormy Inns throughout Japan, i rate this one above average.  Express is meant to be more economical, so rates are slightly lower than normal Dormy Inns. despite that, quality of facilities and services remain highly competitive.  this hotel is relatively new, well maintained, so everything is like brand new.  room size is a bit smaller than normal Dormy Inn, especially the bathroom.  public bath and late night ramen are standard within this hotel chain.  breakfast is good, but selection is not as plentiful comparing to some other Dormy Inns. location is good and convenient, on-site parking available.
overall, great value for money, highly recommend.

When I was traveling to Shizuoka, my sister recommended us to stay at Dormy Inn. She told me about their glorious breakfast buffet, which is quite rare (from my experience). They are located near train station and Kakegawa castle, a perfect spot for sightseeing around. 

They have a nice lobby area, with free coffee. They had a nice relaxing area right by the coffee, where they had some Japanese comic books. You are allowed to take them back to your room if you don't want to sit there and read them. They have free Wi-Fi for guests throughout the hotel. Thank you!

The room was very clean, although not very large, but still felt nice and roomy. They had clean slippers and relaxing inner-wear for a couple, which you are allowed to walk around the hotel in, which is also rare. Well, many hotels provide more of a yukata-style inner-wear, so you are not really allowed to leave your room in that attire. These ones were very comfortable. 

They had two sets of towels in a basked under the TV, and we can ask for more from the front desk staffs. The bathroom had free toiletries, which you don't see much any more, so it was very cool. The size, however, is really small, but then again, this hotel comes with a pretty big onsen (hot spring) on the top floor! And if that is not enough, they also have sauna in there too. The public bath space is separated between men and women, and you need a 4-digit code to get into the women bathroom (code changes every day). I enjoyed the onsen so very much, they had one large onsen, and then separate small onsen with the window slightly opened, making it "roten-buro." Both came with a beautiful view of Kakegawa Castle. 

The interesting thing about most Japanese hotel is that they have many energy-saving gadgets. For example, you have to put your room card hey in a slot on the wall to turn on the lights and air conditioning. When you leave the room, everything shuts off automatically when you take your card key off the slot. Also, the refrigerator does not turn on until you press on the on switch. Pretty good ways to conserve energy. They had coffee pot and some packets of green tea next to the refrigerator. No microwave in the room. 

They have a charger with all sorts of different charging port, very useful for travelers! 

And yes, the breakfast buffet was simply amazing. They have lots of local specialties, and everything they had was high quality. I could eat that breakfast everyday for months!!! And then, they have a late-night-ramen starting at 9:30pm for free! What! Awesome!

The staffs were all really nice and friendly, polite and helpful. Even though Dormy Inn is technically a "business hotel" in Japan, but they are so much more than that. And because of all the amenities, service and food, they are one of the most popular hotels in Japan. One of their Dormy Inn hotel has even been ranked as the 5th best hotel in the WORLD. I can certainly understand the reasons for their popularity. They have become one of my favorite hotels in Japan for sure. Hotel with great onsen and breakfast!

Located close to Kakegawa Station, the hotel is clean, the rooms are small but enough for a business trip, a very well packed lunch both Japanese and a little European, and a very competitive price.
