It is located nearby Omiya station and that’s probably the only thing good about the hotel. The room is shockingly out of maintenance. Its winter now and the room is freezing cold. When the ‘aircon エアコン’ switch was turned on (the only switch available) it was really cold air blowing. I called the front counter and they informed they will turned the heater on. Its March and temperature is still between 5-14 degrees, I don’t think anyone needs cold air in their rooms. There is no usual hot water pot for coffee making. A mug pot attached to the wall is available. Check in time is standard Japanese 3pm but check out time is an hour earlier than usual Japanese hotels. Its 10am for this hotel. It’s definitely my first and last stay here. Unbelievable..... rundown hotel that overcharged.

Rundown hotel

The first impression you get is the smell of cigarette. The whole hotel stinks - the lobby, the lifts, the room. The room itself is smallish, the bathroom a fiberglass booth, air conditioning works but not that efficient. Staff mostly cannot speak English. The only thing good was the wifi. 

Horrid old fashioned hotel 

Due to a booking stuff up we were unable to get a bed in Omiya so this place was booked for us by the JR group.  Having used them before for hotel bookings we trusted the selection they made for us.
4 minutes by foot from the train station was the only thing this hotel had going for it.
It is tired and in need of a lot of basic cleaning up/maintenance.  The carpets are grubby and threadbare in places, the walls need painting, bedroom furniture needs updating, (our room had a folding card table as a desk area), wiring was exposed and dangerous under the table.  Bed coverings, while clean were very dated.  The non smoking room we had came complete with its own ashtray and a very heave smell of cigarettes in it despite an obvious overuse of air fresher by cleaning staff.
Breakfast was part of the deal and after being asked if we wanted western or japanese we were presented with a western breakfast that included a cake holder of runny eggs, 1 thin small sausage, 2 pastries and a pile of salad greens and soup.  Clearly the chef needs a better understanding of western meals.
Overall this was not good enough and the cost for what we actually got was excessive.
The only other good thing about this apart from its location was leaving it behind.

Best thing is its location

Stayed one night as I had a morning appointment the next day in the area.  I evidently accidentally booked a smoking room, which reeked and prevented me from getting to sleep (my fault).  

The room was worn, the mattress saggy, and the carpet in the restaurant threadbare.  I have no idea if the staff spoke English, but they knew who I was before I introduced myself.  I suppose they don't get too many overseas guests.  

The Good:
Breakfast was OK. No buffet, self service drinks. Two set plates (western or Japanese).
Close to Omiya Station and bus depot. 
Low cost. 
Electrical outlet and room light controls right next to the head of the bed.  That's also where the only control (fan speed only) for the air conditioner is to be found.

You get what you pay for

The room was small, and if you are prone to claustrophobia, probably not for you.  But it was clean, and the staff was very courteous and even friendly.  This was my first trip to Japan, but I likely will stay at this hotel next time...
