We just came back from two days at Tawi Lodge. It was booked as part of our safari itinerary with Kenya Experience. 

It was a wonderful stay from start to finish. This eco-lodge is set on a 3000 acre conservancy that not only benefits the wildlife but also the local community. On our way in and out of the grounds each day to Amboseli National Park (entrance about 15 to 20 minutes away), we saw so many giraffes, gazelles, impalas, monkeys, and even a hyena my mom thought we were in the national park). During breakfast, an elephant stopped by the watering hole I nearly panicked and dropped my fork. 

The service is impeccable. When we arrived the staff and managers were lined up ready to welcome us. We were given cold towels to freshen up, given an introduction to the main lodge, then shown to our rooms. 

The rooms were very spacious. And yes being an eco-lodge, you should be aware hot water is powered by solar, though they made a point that they can make more if needed and to let them know if we want to take a bath versus using a shower.  We know water is a valuable resource so we opted not to use the bath tub as a hot shower was plenty for us. 

The food in their restaurant is great. Lunch first day was ok but fantastic second day. Dinner selections are stellar and delicious. 

Would definitely recommend the sundowner as having a glass of wine while the sun sets over the conservancy and Mt Kilimanjaro revealing itself was truly special. Alphonse, the manager, recommended this and he did not disappoint!

Tawi Lodge is such a cool special place.  I am glad we went in the wet season as I hear the dust can be a challenge for both the customers and the staff.  We visited Nov 6th - 9th, 2023

Gabriel picked us up at the airport and was so happy to offer us a Tusker (Local beer).  He was gracious and patient as we had to roll through 5 different credit cards to pay try and pay the Park fees.  Stupid banks…LOL.

Once we arrived at Tawi, Elizabeth greeted us with such a spunky fire that it left us smiling as we checked into our room.  This is a very calm environment and great as it only has 13 rooms, so you can get to know the staff and other guests.  We did a Full Board experience, as the portions for breakfast and dinner were more than enough for the two of us.

We only stayed 3 nights and went on two game drives with Gabriel and a sundowner.  Gabriel is very informative in his game drives; shared some local cultural knowledge, and made us laugh with some of his adventurous stories.  My favorite is the one about the turtle.  (You have to go to hear it…LOL)

Titus was extremely attentive in both dinner and bartender services and always made sure we were taken care of while at Tawi.  His servers, although shy, were also very attentive and made sure we did not want for anything.

I did use the pool, even though it was their winter.  Still 82 degrees Fahrenheit.  I think they thought I was crazy, since they were all in winter clothes, but it was kind of nice to have it all to myself. 

We were recommended to take a nature walk with Larusha, the local Masai Warrior, and then meet up with Gabriel for a sundowner.  We learned a great deal about their local culture, the animals, and plants.  I even think their toothbrush stick works better than the toothbrush I brought!  When catching up with Gabriel for some snacks and wine as the sun went down, we had some more in depth  conversations around family, culture, and life in general.  Getting to know the people here in Kenya was my favorite part of this visit!

Tawi Lodge Nov 6th - 9th, 2023

THIS IS NOT A 5 STARS HOTEL. We are travelers and we stay alla round the world in luxury hotels (working in the hospitality industry) and this is NOT a 5 stars hotel. It is a scam: so bad value for money. We found bugs in our bed right behind the pillows. Moreover, they were everywhere in the room, bathroom for all night and day. We couldn’t sleep as we had to stay awake to kill the insects and all sort of huge bugs that were entering due to poor construction of the building. We wanted to leave early right after the first night. Once we said this to the manager, not only he didn’t apologize but he made us feel like we were the problem. This hotel is really led by bad management and it is NOT a luxury stars hotel: service is poor, WiFi is only available in the lobby (medium size room with 3 couches) and NOT in the rooms, checkout is done in the backoffice of the manager with all the paper work, food is poor, waiters do not answer to your requests. Game drives and other services are incredibly expensive compared to other hotels in the area. Do yourself a favor and do not stay at TAWI LODGE

We had an amazing stay at Tawi and the staff was so helpful and made a huge effort to make us happy and grant all our wishes! Comfortable lodge with a nice pool right by a watering hole where you can see lots of different animals. Our guide Tom was the absolute best and made our whole experience incredible !  Can 100% recommend! 

Amazing stay at Tawi! 

A really lovely lodge with open dining and a great watering hole where we spent many hours taking photos. The cottages are well appointed and split into 4 separate areas - bedroom, bathroom with twin basins and bath, separate shower and separate toilet. There was also a private veranda and fire pit. The staff were very welcoming and attentive and the service was great. Good food too. 

Being a private conservancy, there was minimal traffic and we were lucky enough to see the amazing big Tusker ‘Craig’. There was also a great view of Kilimanjaro from the private land. 

The lodge is close to Amboseli National Park where the wildlife is plentiful.

My wife and I stayed at Tawi Lodge in February 2023 with Orphan Trails Safari (Tour Director: Beverly Perry) and Maniago Safaris East Africa (Safari Guide: Peter Waweru). Simply put, we had an absolutely delightful time! The lodge is located both in a conservancy and just a few minutes-drive from the entrance to Amboseli National Park. Our tent was spacious and quite comfortable. Each tent has a view of Mt. Kilimanjaro and nearby watering hole that attracts wildlife, including giraffes. (Warning: close your tent zippers very tightly or else you many find a small monkey in your tent – it happened to us! No harm done.) Hotel staff were very helpful and the food was delicious. A big plus is free laundry with same day turnaround. The hotel will deliver early morning coffee or tea to your tent upon request. They offer on-site massage and have a bar in the main lodge. Wi-fi available primarily in main lodge. Take a look at some of the books about Kenya in the main lodge living room. 

Our daily game drives in Amboseli National Park were just incredible. We saw so many types of wildlife including elephant, zebra, masai giraffe, hippopotamus, cape buffalo, impala, heyena, dik-dik, kudu, wildebeest, lion, and cheetah at a distance. Numerous birds as well. The park is quite large. The animals tend to be near water. Luckily our safari guide/driver knew his way around. Early morning sunrise safaris are the best. We had a delightful box breakfast at the airstrip prepared by Tawi Lodge. Don’t miss going to “observation point” for a high elevation view of the park. Be prepared to take lots of photographs. 

Stay at Tawi Lodge, with Orphan Trails Safari and Maniago Safaris, visit Amboseli National Park, and rest assured that you will have an experience of a lifetime!

Trip of a lifetime!

We fell in love with Kenyan Wildlife Reserves a few years ago, and now wanted to visit Amboselli, a Park that we had not yet seen.  So it was a real pleasure to go to Tawi, staffed entirely by delightful, Kenyans,  hospitable, kind, funny and helpful. The rooms are  comfortable, the cuisine  terrific and the lodge itself well designed and a pleasant place to stay.. The conservancy on which it sits, in the shadow of Kilimanjaro, afforded  us regal sightings of among other animals, Cheetahs and big Tuskers, our guide a Masaai, fantastically knowledgeable regarding the land and wildlife that lives on it and happy to share it with us.  We  enjoyed this lovely place and send many thanks back to the staff that gave us and our family such a pleasant time..

An unusually welcoming property outside Amboselli in Kenya.

Situated in a Conservancy, which is leased from the local Maasai community, in exchange for their protection of the areas wildlife, Tawi lodge is just a short drive from main gate of Amboseli National Park.  With a breathtaking view of Mt Kilimanjaro (only visible on a clear morning or evening), this is the place to stay to launch game drives into the park.
We saw many wild animals walk by our hut - #1, farthest from the main lodge, but worth the 200m hike to be closest to nature.  The view of game from the main lodge is also excellent, however, as it overlooks a watering hole frequented by warthogs, baboons, Vevet monkeys and other species.
Jackson, our butler was always attentive to our needs in our hut, Sarah gave my wife a great massage, and Abigail always took care of us with an infectious smile during our meals.  We can't wait to go back to the Tawi Lodge!

Our lodging while visiting Amboseli National Park

Tavistock Eco Lodge is a 4 star Safari Lodge just 15 min from Amboseli gate. From all the tents you have a great view to the mighty Kilimanscharu.
The rooms are very spacious,with tub, shower,terrasse. In the garden you find a lovely pool with some su beds,a fireplace and a waterhole that attracts a.lot.of wild animals even the big tuskers.
The food is fantastic and especially the glorious salats for lunch were a highlight for us.Softdrinks,house wine and some alcoholics like beer and gin are included in the package, which we found very convenient.
The staff is very friendly and is doing everything to help you.
What is really bad... the WiFi is lousy!!!
 For photographers the Lodge is not well equipped. Hardly any plugs to download the Fotos onto the computer, no foto lounge and chairs to sit on. No WiFi in the rooms!!
This should be a must for a 4 star Lodge. Nevertheless we enjoyed our stay in the lodge very much.


Well kept Eco Lodge in beautiful gardens with Kili view

The Lodge is very comfortable place to stay. Chalets are spacious, very clean and well equipped Terrace is en excellent place to observe wildlife passing by and your eyes rest on the Mount Kilimanjaro. Service is excellent. Breakfast is good. Food is well prepared and on the high side comparing to other lodges. However, the the food is not at the same level than the rooms and service. If there is something to improve it is the kitchen.
When coming back to Amboseli, I will return to Tawi Lodge.
