Very beautiful very close to a clean beach. 

However the management is a nightmare. You'll be charged for a broken toothpick. One hour after our arrival we were accused of breaking the shower. We lost many valuables and no responsibility taken by management - a phone, child's shoes.

They will not clean your room unless you pay extra.

Beauty and the beast of a place 

Looking at Spice of the Coast, I see great beauty. However, this is all hidden underneath the poor service, lack of provisions (soap, slippers, there were broken taps) unkempt gardens, empty bar, milkless tea, milky swimming pool ... and on and on. Word of advice to Wanjiru: either undertake a thorough overhaul of the place to make it habitable or count your losses, sell off and move on. 

Previous reviews are great, but unfortunately my July-August 2018 experience was not nice, at all. Sorry!

Great plan, very poor upkeep

Whilst the hotel has some beautiful buildings it's very rundown and the service is awful. Whilst breakfast is included you need to wait at least 2 hours to get anything - it would be preferable to just be told there's no breakfast. The rooms are large and nice, but seriously need better upkeep. All the towels and bedsheets have stains, requesting them to be changed doesn't improve anything. Most of the furniture covers are very old and dirty as the bugs continually mess them - there are spiders everywhere and the cobwebs are never all removed. At times there was no running water, and it's only hot if it's very sunny. The wifi was very slow when it was on, it seemed to be always turned off unless we requested - probably to save funds. It's such a shame as the place could be so nice, but without any effort it feels more like camping than staying in what is quite an expensive hotel.

Nice decor but terrible upkeep - things have clearly changed in 2016

it was a perfect place away from the city center cool air very well maintained place,very intimate,nice cottages,very private,its a home away from home,our wonderful host Wanjiru. would go back there again if visiting Diani.

HOME AWAY FROM HOME

The hospitality is the very best. The compound is very well kept, very green in such a way it has a cool microclimate and most importantly the splendid cottages which are an art.....its a place where you feel like you at home but on holiday

Peaceful Paradise

The initial plan was to stay there for three days and two nights but we ended up spending five nights and it was the best five days! Was a perfect way to end 2014 and start 2015. One word i can used to describe Spice of the Coast is 'Paradise'. This place felt like heaven on earth; first off the ambience is EVERYTHING! Lots of places usually oversell themselves but Spice actually kinda sell themselves in a reserved manner that is still attractive and then you get there and it surpasses all excpectations AND that is exactly waht happened. Wanjiru was the most gracious hostess, ive never felt more at home anywhere else, The satff were so warm and welcoming and were really excited to have us there and they all treated us like royalty. The crowning moment for us was when the mahogany doors to our room was opened... was like walking through the gates of heaven. The cottage 'Pilipili' was indeed Spicy! The decor,the bedroom, the bathroom, the living room,. everything in this room actually spoke to both me and my boyfriend's personality. Its like she already had a sense of who we are from jump!!! Loved it!! The swimming pool was beaut

Diani's best kept secret

We slept 3 nights before we left for the safari in this very quiet place, close enough to the beaches where you can be accompanied. We still thank Thomazz and his wife for the hospitality, the sympathy and the good cuisine, we found ourselves comfortable and they took great care of us and our son Matteo. Cleaned and cared for the cottage, immersed in the green with the apes as our neighbors, we were able to enjoy the swimming pool on our return from the beach trips.
