this place is cheap and you get what you pay for bathroom was mouldy and the sink was leaking for the whole stay. Did not have much interaction with the staff. The balcony in the room was nice. The hostel is centrally located and on a great spot. I would only recommend if you just want a bed and don't care much about anything else. Not sure if I would come again.

if you just need a bed it will do

Great, small hotel close to Mount Pho Si. You get what you pay for, no luxuary, but not bad at all. There’s a small restaurant there were you can get breakfast, lunch or dinner. The internet worked all the time. Very nice staff. You can rent a bike there for 20.000/day.

Cheap and simple, with great location and nice staff

We arrived here after a long day of travelling and were shown to our room which was on the ground floor and believe it or not, didn’t have glass windows, only wooden shutters. The noise from the main road outside was ridiculously loud.
There is fabric on the walls that is hiding the mould and mildew beneath and god knows what else. We decided to grin and bear it because it was only 3 nights and we’d be out most of the day.

We came back to the room that night after some food, opened the door and were greeted by a big lizard sat on the air conditioning box above our bed and mosquitos on the walls. We informed the owner that we would not be staying here and to be fair to him he was helpful and allowed us to cancel without charge, despite him not believing us that there was a lizard in the room.

I’m sure this is normal to them but us brits aren’t used to sharing the bed with lizards! 

Damp, mould and a pet lizard

The rooms have a reasonable price and they are also very clean. We got a room with balcony : it was pretty spacious and very comfortable. I am writing this review also for the staff because they were incredibly kind and helpful. They also offer tours in Luang Prabang and transportation to nearby cities and airport. Thank you very much, we loved our staying! 

Kind staff and nice rooms

The outside is greedy. It's a small wooden house. We were able to negotiate a room upstairs for 125,000 a night (which is quite expensive in Laos). The room has a small balcony. Hot water for the shower. The woodwork in the room came out of the wall. Not a lot of mold. We had a big cork-like slate in the bathroom. In the woodworking at night we heard a lot of bugs. The GH is well located. It's near the fousi, the utopia, etc. But it's in front of a temple so expect to be awakened by the monks around 5:00 a. And don't sleep too well, since the GH gives on a round road, not far away. Young people come in there. The bed is very high and the ears are very high.

There's too many animals.

120,000 Kips for a room without air conditioning and dirty, located near a pretty noisy round spot, it was just theft.

Theft

I booked this guesthouse about 3 days before I arrived in Luang Prabang. Do not do this. There is no reason to book in advance for Luang Prabang there are plenty of guesthouses.

For Muonglao I payed 19 CAD a night when I booked online. This is way over priced. The room he gave us was room 1 and it was completely unsafe to sleep in. The walls were covered in mold and the room smelled of mildew. After we asked if we could change rooms he said yes and moved us to room 3. It was not much better. We ended up walking around and quickly found out that the other guesthouses are cheaper and much much nicer. We bit the bullet for the money we already payed and stayed in a nicer guesthouse closer to the river for 100,000 Kip a night.

Do not book in advance

Guesthouse well located. Medium accommodation. Not much effort. We stayed there for two nights. The first one in the DRC that didn't satisfy us. Cleanliness to see again. Lethal litter. The boss kindly agreed to change our rooms. This one was on the first floor. Much better with balcony. Please do not hesitate to ask for the first floor. I will not go back there, it is obvious.

Positive: location

Room with 2 windows and view of Mount Phu Si for 90,000 kips, with private bathroom and hot water Everything is clean, the very nice managers A 2 minutes from the Utopia bar near a temple, so the sound of gongs early in the morning The managers make regular fires under the window, the girl enters the room, forced to close the blinds (it happened twice pendan our stay of 2 nights, once late in the afternoon and once at 6am)

Great house but horrible room. Spider fabric. Termites eat wood. Noisy cars. Unusable balcony. Bathroom with unstable sink. Broken faucet. Broken toilet glass. Moist mask of the whole bathroom. Dirty mirror.
