My Guesthouse 109 - Adults Only

This is an beautiful shophouse mansion converted into a guesthouse. It’s so instagrammable inside! There are cute cats too! It’s very clean especially the shared toilet and bath. The location is good as well, walking distance to Komtar, Clan Jetties, Lebuh Armenia, Little India and a lot lot more. Please note that this is not a hotel so you have to so everything yourself which is very good experience. You treat it as your own house. If you need something, you can reach out to the friendly owner via Whastapp. I will comeback for sure.

Lovely Place in Penang!

Beautiful guests house, it's have laundry room, bathroom with hot water, air condition. All free to use when u stay here. It's also very safe place because it have electronic key :)))) landlord very friendly and cats very cute :)) i hope that i can stay there more

Nice and safe place to stay

This is the kind of place that makes you feel like home. Everything is perfect here, the house is so beautiful and we'll mantained. Rooms are big and they are perfectly furnitured. The owner is so kind and attentive, she really makes your stay easier, every habitant of the house is a precious one. You have access to a fully equipped kitchen where you can prepare your food. We loved he place so much that we stayed a second time when we came back from Langkawi. Truly a place to stay.

Great guesthouse with great owners

We stayed in My Guesthouse 109 for five nights, paid c. €24 per night for a double bed, stayed in room 201 (faces the street on floor above ground level).

Location for us was perfect, just outside the core heritage area of Georgetown but still within a short enough walking distance to everything - e.g. 10mins walk to start of Little India, Chulia Street, 5mins walk to Limitations Bus Terminal).

Check in is stated as between 2pm - 5pm (the owner also will email you to remind of this). Given we were travelling from Koh Lipe in Thailand to Georgetown, we were travelling for c. 10 hours and knew we'd arrive late evening time.  Thankfully the owner was accommodating of our late arrival (probably helped that we kept her updated throughout the day). 
There is no manned reception however so be aware. She's available over email/whatsapp however.

Given the fact we had only arrived in Malaysia that day, we didn't have enough cash to pay for our accommodation up front - we had placed additional travel notes on our bank account the day prior to leaving Thailand but because our banks are slow to process this request, we technically have to let 24hrs elapse before we use the bank card. 
When we asked if we could pay tomorrow morning, we were told there wouldn't be anyone around at all tomorrow and that we'd have to pay now. Luckily our card didn't blget blocked when the transaction was processed when we attempted it but it could easily have happened if our bank hadn't processed our travel note quicker than usual. 

The accommodation is lovely itself, common areas (shared kitchenette, shared bathrooms, etc) are kept clean and tidy, we saw cleaners every day). There's a few cats that free roam around and a rabbit (in a hutch). 

The room itself was large enough, high ceilinged, comes with small desk and chair, complimentary water (free refills from kitchen), doorless cupboard with coat hangers and wooden safe to store valuables (no lock was provided though), small bedside desk, decent AC unit (with fan only function also) small mirror and a few coat rungs. 

In the five days we were there, our room was cleaned & towels replaced once. 
As is advertised heavily around the entire properly, the walls separating the guestrooms are very thin and sound travels easily so even a normal volume conversation will be heard from next door. Didn't bother us too much, some guests that arrived in late weren't always very mindful of other guests but wasn't a big issue for us. Wi-Fi signal and speed were decent also. 

Overall, would return to stay here given the great location, value for money and clean, tidy accommodation. Only suggestion to the owners would be to try have more of a presence in the property during daytime hours (if even only for a few hours).

Clean, cool vibe in good location, some improvements to suggest 

The room was one of the most comfortable we've ever had, super clean and clean, the bathroom even though shared is extremely clean, with a great shower! The location couldn't have been better! But the highest point of the place are the bugs (all adorable), it has 1 beautiful cat and 3 cute puppies, 1 rabbit and fish (even with these animals the place is very clean)! We'll definitely come back!

Comfortable and well cared for

We loved our stay at 109 guesthouse. It was beautiful, the bed was comfy and the room and shared bathroom were spotless. The walls between rooms were thin but it’s not a hotel so didn’t expect silence, the only major problem we had was the noise from the main road outside. We might as well have been sleeping outside or with the windows wide open it was so loud, such a shame as better windows would make this place perfect.

Noisy but lovely

The best guesthouse I have stayed actually! 100% recommend for tourists seek for a peaceful place fulfilled the good facilities: air conditioning, fan, dryer, washing machine, microwave, etc. 
The location is good to almost tourist destinations, the house air is perfect from each details, the decoration is so so amazing,  the owners are so kind, careful and hospitable, etc.  Although we should have checked in at 12 at noon,  we still could place my luagges, eat noodles, take a shower until 23 at night ( cuz we went to Kuala at 23:30). Additionally, the owner - May is so nice,  showing us the amazing coffee peope should come, China House. ( picture below) 
Everything was totally wonderful in this house. The place I high recommend for travelers, actually. 
Will come back! 

Treat us like a home

We had a double room with air conditioning, which really worked perfectly. The hostel was really very clean and the communal bathrooms were very clean. The staff were really very helpful and kind. Unfortunately, the hostel is in a street with a lot of dirt, which really bothered us a lot, whoever cares, he should definitely go!

A good hostel in a bad condition!

We had a double room with a communal bathroom. + The room was a good size, bed was comfortable, storage space was available. On the 2nd floor there are 5 rooms, for this there are 2 communal bathrooms and communal showers in the large laundry room. Everything was clean and functional. You could wash yourself for free, which was also very convenient. The location was great. Perfectly close to everything. - We knew beforehand that the reception is not always occupied because there is no run in hotel. It's not bad. But at the reception there was no housekeeping, there was only daily housekeeping on the Internet. We were here for 5 nights and we didn't get any new bed linen or hand luggage. The back linen was so dirty that it was easy to pull up in the shoe because there was no shortage of shoes. Now if you were standing in the kitchen, you should have a super-clean area. If you were standing on the street for two days, you would have to find a super-clean area. If you were standing in the kitchen, you would not have to

Good guesthouse to explore Georgetown

It's a very tastefully renovated house in a quieter street in Chinatown. Still, everything is very well within walking distance. We had a room with windows and a communal bathroom. Everything very clean and well maintained. And it has everything you need, quiet air conditioning, clean bedding, towels, shampoo and even foam, sutures, iron and board... Great that you can use a small kitchen, including free coffee or tea, refrigerator, washing machine. And the family is really super nice and helpful!!! We really liked the guesthouse, a very clear recommendation.
