George Town

Wonderful stay at a historical well preserved building. This stylish boutique hotel is well located for exploring the heritage areas and walking distance to many tourist attractions. There are lots of restaurants and bars in the area. We were warmly welcomed by Miss Linda and her colleague. Since our room wasn’t ready we were escorted to the hotel restaurant to have a drink and to try  some local delicacies. It was delicious! I booked the Loft suite that was quite large for the 3 of us. The room was clean and tastefully designed. There was two bathrooms and two sinks, perfect for large families. The room was well ventilated, lots of windows and it had  2 ceiling fans an air conditioning too. Quite pleasant after returning from a long day touring the city. Coffee & tea bags are offered and water bottles frequently replenished. There were 3 queen size beds, quite comfy with clean white sheets. Hotel staff are extremely friendly and helpful. 

Our room was located across the road from the main hotel reception. There were 3 rooms (if I’m not mistaken) at our building. One evening a group of 6 ladies checked in. Our neighbours across our room were extremely loud throughout the night. They were talking and laughing till the early morning (till around 4am) it was quite disturbing. I wished there was an in-house rule printed  in all rooms for guest to respect others especially after 10pm. 

Overall we had a wonderful stay at the Muntri Mews and shall definitely return. 
Thumbs up to Ms.Linda the residence manager she was very kind, helpful and accommodating and so are the other staff too.

Muntri Mews, one for the bucket list!

It was very difficult to talk with the staff, who are almost never there. Seems like they have abandoned the place and put in a bare minimum of effort to look after their guests. 
But, pretty good location, reasonable price, and nice architecture in the lobby. 

Understaffed

We slept in a dormitory for 6 people. The beds are comfortable and the air conditioning is a real plus. However, we shared the dormitory with people who seemed to be staying here for a long time and were really disrespectful (music without headphones between 1:00 and 3:00 in the morning or early in the morning for example or sleeping in a bed). The dormitories are very poorly insulated, you can hear everything else going on at other people's homes. The bathroom/shower wasn't clean and very far from our patient... we'd better not be. Finally, the reception is cold.

It's a good location, but it stops there.

The place is quite good at competitive prices.  pretty clean and the location is pretty strategic.  I sleep on a bed sharing with 7 people.  there is tea and coffee and mineral water refill.  bathroom is quite clean.  in the morning there is breakfast.

quite nice place to stay...

In fact, the only positive thing it has is the location. Reserve this hostel due to the good reviews I saw on TripAdvisor, but they don't match with reality. The dark, old and dirty room and bathrooms were different. Finally we ended up switching to another hostel on the street and we were not returned the amount of any of the nights.

Hostel is not recommended.

Me and my girlfriend were booked in for 4 nights, we left after 2.

The room was really spacious and had a/c but the floor seemed to be held together with sticky tape and the walls were wafer thin - we could hear everyone walking outside our room as well as our neighbour's conversations clear as day (and night).

The shared bathrooms were hot, damp and smelled horrible. Clearly hadn't been cleaned in a couple of days (there was still the same hair in the basin). Used water from the showers all flow through the other cubicles to drain out 1 end.

Bathrooms rancid, we left halfway early

Had a nice one night stay at this heritage homestay before leaving Penang.

Location is great in George Town and quiet overall. Beds are nice and big and comfortable. Lights and a plug at each bed too.

The 8-bed female dorm is snug. The beds are really close so you have to walk sideways between beds. But for one night it was fine.

WiFi is good overall too.

Only drawbacks: 
1. Breakfast is very, very, very basic. Some eggs would have been nice. 

2. You can hear people walking on the second floor very well, I flush f those going up the stairs.

3. Shower/toilet combo so seat can be wet a lot of the time.

For the cost, I would stay again, was a cool experience being In one of the old homes.


Nice heritage stay in George Town

Stayed here for a few nights whilst exploring Penang. It's a great base as its close enough to everything whilst also not being right in the really busy noisy centre of town. 

Staff are friendly and helpful, the guy on reception looked through our travel plans and told us where everything was in town and recommended a few things too. 

Room isn't huge and lacks storage space for clothes and bags etc, but as we are here only a few days that's fine with us! Air con and fan in the room is great. Showers are good too - powerful and clean. Hotel doesn't seem very busy - only saw a couple of other guests throughout our time! 

Would stay here again for sure!

Nice stay in the heart of George Town

Overall it was a great stay here. We stayed for four nights after initially booking three, really easy to add another night and the owner let us stay in the same room which was really helpful. The room was small but clean. Shared bathrooms are fine, could do with a thorough clean but I imagine it’s hard in a place like this. Ac and a fan in the room, so good that it actually felt cold at night. Great location in terms of walking distance to places. Owner was really friendly and helpful: there was heavy rainfall and he was stood at the door making sure people were safe walking past in the floods. Also, he helped us book our boat tickets to Langkawi and got them to us saving us a trip to the ferry port. I would stay here again in Georgetown.

Cheap and cheerful 

A very nice hostel, comfortable and staffed very helpful and pleasant. He was very pleasant. The breakfast is very fair but everything else is worth it. The building is precious and is a luxury to be there. Large room and very comfortable beds. Cafe and water 24 hours a day. Good location. Quiet.
